Hi all,
Had a wonderful time in June at ASM with the family, too hot though but nonetheless very rewarding.
We are now planning for this Decemeber and we are getting conflicting comments as to which is the best time to go. We were told the week right after Thanksgiving, then we were told the week after that. Would someone please point us in the right direction.

Thanks

Both are good! We found flying a bit tricky at the tail-end of the Thanksgiving holiday, so keep that in mind and plan to pounce if you see a decent price/times for flight. If you stay at a Value, they may be overrun w/the pop warner teenager/tweenager kids and therefore diminish your enjoyment of the resorts. The weather is great, crowds are low and the Christmas spirit is abundant! Happy planning!

We were there this year from December 1-5. It was Pop Warner week.

We stayed at POR. There were *lots* of cheerleaders there. I had heard horror stories about them (I'd never heard of Pop Warner before we booked), but they did not ruin our trip.

The resort was crowded, but we rarely saw the cheerleaders (or football players) in the parks -- except for the evening we went to DHS. It was closing early for a Pop Warner party.

Other than that, the only complaint that I might have had is that a couple of nights the cheerleaders were practicing their routines in the courtyard of our building till quite late. My kids were in bed. We were on the 4th floor so it wasn't really loud enough to bother us, but if I had been on the first or second floor, it might have been a problem.

Overall, we had a fantastic week -- low crowds, great weather, etc. I was all worried about Pop Warner for nothing. I think either week you've chosen would be fine.

OK excuse my ignorance but what the heck is "pop warmer" and when is it this year...we're playing on coming Dec 2 -10...should I rethink this?

We like the week after Thanksgiving because of the price drop and the crowd drop. We are going at Christmas this year because we have to follow the school schedule for the kids (we have 4) and DH and I are teachers!:goodvibes

We visited WDW Nov. 25-Dec. 2, 2007. We stayed at OKW and had a blast! We hit the parks early and usually went back to our room for an afternoon break, we usually went back to the parks at night. We rarely waited for rides but utilized fast passes. We had a "plan of attack" but also knew that we were flexible with our plans.

We attended MVMCP on Thursday evening, the walkways were busy, but no lines for rides. Also, the lines for characters were busier than I expected. The shows were fabulous!

We flew the Sunday after Thanksgiving, we had one of the first flight out of Milwaukee at 7:35 AM, the airport wasn't bad then, Orlando airport was a mob when we arrived.

Let me know if you have specific questions.

We have been the week after Thanksgiving and it was GREAT!! I dont think I would want to be there with all the POP Warner kids. We were just there this Jan. and there were Brazilian tour groups everywhere. I would try and avoid a time where there were lots of groups. It was crazy!!

If you go the week right after Thanksgiving, you should be good. Crowds are low and you miss Pop Warner Week. Just make sure it is the week after Thanksgiving. Last year, we went the same week as the year before, but because Thanksgiving was so early last year, the first week in December was two weeks after the holiday and it was much more crowded than we expected. It was also Pop Warner week. Luckily, we weren't in the park when parents decided to start throwing strollers at each other right before Wishes. :sad2:

Pop Warner week is December 7th -13th, 2008. Last year there was a HUGE fight that broke out in the middle of the night at AS Sports between a few rival teams and 3 of the teams were told to pack their stuff because they were being thrown out. From what I have heard the fight got pretty nasty including having some of the cheerleaders and/or chaperones being sent to the hospital for a variety of bloody injuries including at least 1 broken nose. Keep in mind that these cheerleading groups don't only have girls on the squad, most have boys on the squads especially when they reach the competition level like the ones that come to Disney. Plus they travel from all over the country , 1 of the teams that was asked to leave was fom Hawaii. You are talking about HUNDREDS of kids, many are unsupervised teens (let's face it the chaperones can't be everywhere).

If all goes as plans we should overlap the cheerleaders a bit...I'm assuming they'll be staying in the value resorts and we should be OK in deluxe???

They are not only in the value resorts. There were many cheerleaders at POR (a moderate) last year. I don't know for sure about Deluxe resorts though.
