So we booked a 1 bedroom at AKV-Kidani for Dec 5-10th, at our 11 month window. At the time we wait listed a 1 bedroom at BLT for 2 views (I think we did Lake and MK views). The CM at the time implied that we had a great chance of it coming through. So far, nothing.

This is our first time wait listing anything. What, realistically, are our chances? What time-frame do wait lists typically come through? We've left it open until the 7 day window since it will cost more points anyways.

Thanks!

It will depends on when you went on the waitlist. Did you call at 7 month mark to be put on the waitlist? In order for a waitlist to be filled all nights have to be available, so if someone has one or two nights durning your timeframe they will get those nights before you even if they are lower on the waitlist. A lot of waitlist come through at 30 days when people cancel before points go into holding. Also when DVC declares more rooms into inventory your chances go up.

Knowing your chances of getting a wait list is like guessing the lotto. There are so many variables involved that in all honesty it's a guess. Bottom line is if someone cancels, and you are next on the list, you get it.

We average one success out six or so requests.

We went on at our 11 month window, so we've been wait listed for at least 4 months. I guess we just keep waiting. :)

How did you wait list at the 11 month mark at BLT? Is that your home resort too?

I would think that your chances of getting a wait list for the first two weeks of December pretty slim. It's just such a popular time for DVC members. At least you have your home resort booked. Most of the time wait lists come through at about 6 1/2 months and then again at 29 - 30 days and lastly during the week before check-in. Many people either switch resorts at the 7 month mark, or cancel 31 days out. Or if emergencies occur cancel that last week. So some DVC members call MS each day one week out to see if there are any villas available. Also some think it's worthwhile to call off and on to see if there are villas available. There's a theory that you can beat the wait list system by calling.

Good Luck and remember you are still going to have a wonderful time at WDW no matter where you stay.

I am on a WL at AKL for only 2 nights Dec 9th and 10th. I have been on the WL for a couple of months and no luck. I was told by MS that there was availability for the 10th, but the 9th is sold out all over property!

I've been sitting here trying to figure out how we waitlisted at the 11 month window, but we did. BLT is NOT one of our home resorts. Could it be because we were using banked points? :confused3 I know the waitlist is still active because I checked on it a few weeks ago when I was adding days to our trip (added SSR days and left the waitlist alone).

I know we'll have fun no matter where we stay...we are just hoping to try something new and it'd be nice with our 2 year old. ;)

Since that original call, have you double checked that they actually put in the wait list? I didn't think that MS could create a wait list until you had points that could be valid for that time.

For example, if you went on at 11 months with AKV points, and something matched at the 10 month mark, they could not fill it unless you had BLT points to use. So, at that point, I can't imagine that the wait list would still exist.

I would give MS a call and make sure that a wait list is indeed set up for you.

Good luck!

Your chances of getting BLT might be improving. On Friday, July 2, 2010, Disney filed a Declaration for BLT with the Orange County Comptroller (OCC) which would have added 20 dedicated two-bedroom villas and 18 lockoff two-bedroom villas to the DVC inventory. Declarations like this are good for the Members because the more villas in the DVC inventory, the more villas there are for members to book on points.

However, by late Friday, the new Declaration was removed from the OCC site and replaced by a record that says "VOID." For some reason, Disney or OCC decided the originally filed document had to be retracted. So, for the time being, Disney has not officially declared 38 more villas for BLT.

Although the latest BLT declaration is in limbo, Disney might reissue it within the next few days. If so, your waitlist chances should improve. Good luck!!

I would wonder, when they declare new villas, are they also selling more points to new contracts? Do those new contract owners get any priority for the new villas? Or do the first dibs go to the WL?

When the Disney Vacation Development (DVD) component of Disney builds a resort such as BLT, DVD owns all the villas at the resort. In order to sell points to the public, Disney has to declare that at least part of the resort belongs to the DVC membership. The number of points DVD can sell is based on the amount of real estate, or "Units", it declares for the DVC. At BLT, its based on a simple formula: 19,640 points for a two-bedroom villa, 39,280 points for a Unit containing two two-bedroom villas, and 34,975 points for a Grand Villa. DVD declares Units for the membership incrementally. With BLT, DVD has made 12 additional Declarations since the original declaration was made in September 2008.

New contract owners do not have dibs on new villas. When new buyers get their points, they can make reservations using the same booking rules as existing members. I suspect, but don't know for a fact, that newly declared villas would be used to satisfy waitlist requests before they are made available for new reservations.

A specific villa does not have to be declared for the DVC membership for members to book it using points. Currently, about 73% of BLT has been declared for the membership. That means that on any given Use Day, DVC members can book up to 73% of BLT and it doesn't matter whether the villa has been technically declared for the membership.

I know the wait list is active because I checked on it a few weeks ago when making an additional ressie. I must be remembering it wrong...I must have called back at the 7 month window. All my trips and times on the phone with member services are just running together. :headache: I'll double check on Tuesday when I'm on the phone to book another trip.

Thanks everyone! I hope those additional villas come through! ;)
