December vs January

We are planning a trip with our family of six -- husband and I, eight year old triplets and a three year old. Right now we have it planned for December 6-17th. They will miss eight days of school. Looking at the school calendar for January there are several days they have off... one of which is Martin Luther King day...... we could go January 16-27th and they would only miss five days of school.

We were looking forward to Disney decorated for Christmas... but that is also a hard time to be gone from home. Price is actually a little less in January... the MLK days are higher rates but I can get airfare for a little less.

My question... which time is "LESS" busy at Disney... I know they are both "value" / slow season... but which is better. I we approaching the holiday bussiness with the Dec dates? Do the January dates work except MLK day weekend might be way busy???? Also, any difference in weather (we don't like it HOT... just nice).

December can get as warm as the 80's but it can also get as cold as 50's in the evenings. The crowds will be about the same except DW is really crowded during MLK. I have gone to DW in December twice and in September once. The holiday decorations alone are worth it. You also get bonus things like extended illuminations etc. Honestly we have debated going in January instead of December as well but the pull of the holiday extras gets us everytime.

Where will you be staying because Pop Warner which is in December can also have an impact if you are staying at all star resorts.

Either way you will have a great time.

Pop Warner is the annual football/cheerleading championships which are held at Disney Wide World of Sports. The reason I ask about all stars is that is where they all stay. A lot of people on these boards have horror stories about early am practices outside the rooms and the wildness of the teens on the buses etc. We have never had a problem with them but we stay DVC and rent a car. If you do a search of Pop Warner someone should have the dates but it is usually the first week of December.
