December booking in Jan (while at WDW)?

OK, we're going in Jan 5 - Jan 11 of '08 on our first trip home to AKV.

We're just now starting to look at how to use our '08 points (Sept UY) and are thinking of a December trip (yes, I know, I'm now planning a trip more than 18 months away...I'm sick.....).

Here's the rub. The dates we're considering are Dec 6th - Dec 12th, 2008....which means we'd really have to call while AT WDW to book them day by day.

So, my question is: Just how necessary is it to book day by day for an early December trip at our home resort? Would we be OK waiting til we got back from our trip? Or are we pretty much stuck with having to take a break to call MS every morning?

It depends a bit on what size unit and what type of accommodations you need. If you want CC, Value view, or a studio, I'd say yes, but if you are looking for something else....maybe not. I'd likely call day by day to be on the safe side, just because the number of units at AKV are limited until the new building opens. We had to call for our first AKV ressie (yep, the 16 of May when everyone else called) while we were at WDW, and I was on hold on my cell for about an hour!

We'll be looking for SV 1BR...so one of the most "common" room types.

We were on hold too.....but that was AFTER we got through and hit the " '08 bug" which wouldnt allow them to book '08 rooms.

We'll likely do the day by day thing...I suppose. But I'm looking for ANY reason to NOT have to...hoping for some stories from people that they were able to book a week or so "late" with no issues at other "smaller" home resorts (smaller than OKW and SSR).

We booked our 2007/2008 BWV New Year's week vacation while at BWV earlier this year. Did it day-by-day, just to make sure. One two-bedroom and one studio w/boardwalk view. Called when MS opened in the morning. Quick and painless (very pleasant, too).

Now the wait.

I, too, would call day-by-day, even at WDW. Until Kidani is built, rooms are limited in number, regardless of size. I don't think the phone call will take too long for that time of year, and peace of mind is certainly worth it.

I just wanted to add that calling for the first day (Dec. 6th), I would ask how it looks, and if it looks like there is no need to call day by day, I would then wait until the 11 month checkout day for the whole ressie. I just think it will be safer to call day by day since there aren't going to be that many rooms available yet. I really doubt you will have much of an on line wait as long as you call right away at 9 AM. The 6th of December is a Thursday, so no Monday morning rush that day.
