I know this is probably somewhere on here but could not find it. I just discovered the day we have a Grand Gathering breakfast at Tonys Town Square at the Magic Kingdom it is the taping of the Christmas parade. :santa: As cool as I think that will be I am wandering how the day will be? Crowded I assume? When do they start the taping? Do we know what stars will be in it? TIA!

1- Yup. Anytime before mid-afternoon, then, it breaks up.

2- 7:30 AM, give or take.

3- The Mylie Jonas Cyrus Brothers. (I have no idea. ;) )

Okay Robo... Your the man. :cool2: Can you answer my barrage of questions?

So are the lines for the rides okay once you get past Main Street?
And I know there is no way to say exactly but approximately what times in the past have they wrapped up?
When you say mid-afternoon do you mean around about 3ish ?
Do the lines get really long after the parade lets out? Does it stay that way?
Would you recommend leaving before the parade lets out?
Knowing a bit better what to expect will help me plan better.

I was going to skip MK on that day but its my birthday and I just cant now since I finally got my CRT table reservation for the first time ever! But I cant decide if I should do MVMCP that day or just the park. My reservation is in the inbetween window so either would work. Any advice?
Thanks!:goodvibes

1- Yes.
2- 2-3PM
3- Yes.
4- Yes.
5- Until the guests that arrived at 7:30AM finally poop out. :)
6- Yes.
7- Up to you.

Thanks as always Robo!
This was I at least know what to expect. I heard they are letting anyone who wants to watch this year watch ( not just AP members). I am thinking it might make the crowd a bit larger. Not a big crowd or parade person so I will just plan accordingly.

Sorry, but there is no MVMCP on 12/5.

We've been to MK on parade taping day before and the crowds are contained to Main Street and the hub. We had little to no wait for rides.

No but there is on the 4th. Thats a Friday and not the same day the OP meant . Sorry I didnt clarify. The Christmas parade is done over Friday, Saturday , and Sunday I was told. So that would make the 4th both a taping day and a party day.

Not sure how smooth that all goes down but on another thread a poster told me they did attend a party in a parade taping day last year . I was concerned that they wouldnt have Main St set up with snow and everything if they were clearing stuff out afterwards or if they were running late. Still makes me a bit nervous. Bad day to schedule a party in my book.

Glad to hear the lines are not so bad.

Gotcha! When we've been in the past, the garland across Main Street was missing during parade taping and the main tree may be in a different location, but other than that, we did not see much difference. That said, we have never been to MVMCP on a parade taping day.

Thats kind of what makes me wonder if I should do the later MVMCP instead. We will be there a couple weeks so we have time. I just figured the earlier the less crowds. I guess its not a big deal about the tree and garland . But since it might be our first day maybe I will wait so the kids get the impact of it all.

I figured the might move the tree but didnt think about the garlands as well. Glad you mentioned it.

We'll be at MK on 12/5 and are doing MVMCP on 12/8. Since you can unofficially get into MK as early as 4p with an MVMCP ticket, we don't usually use a day off our MYW tickets. This year, we'll be midway through our honeymoon on 12/8, so we're sleeping in, playing a round or two of mini golf, then heading over for MVMCP.

You'll have a fabulous time any way you do it! We absolutely love early December at WDW!

I was going to go on the 8th as well but I heard that the 6th and 8th are DVC discounted nights and it can get busy. Just wanted to give you a heads up in case you didnt know. Not sure if it will have a impact or not but someone here on the board said it was a zoo last year during those nights.

I am glad to hear that! Its our first December and we are not sure what to expect. Looking foward to all the decorations . Problem is I overpack as it is . Now that we have to back for both cool and warm weather we will really be loading up the car! lol Cant wait though!

Thanks! Yeah, I heard about the DVC discounts but the 8th worked best with our other considerations and being a Tuesday should help.

We're going to be at MK all day on 12/3 (my birthday!), starting from early EMH and staying through until the end of that night's MVMCP. Then back again on 12/5, just for SpectroMagic and Wishes. I really hope all this parade taping business doesn't make things too crazy.

1) Yes.
2) But, you can't get a ticket to get in early when they start before park hours.
3) Those tickets go to
. . . AP
. . . DVC
. . . paid actors, as crowd guests
. . . paid CM's, as crowd guests

Ok.... so they start taping early morning so what time will I be able to get in for our 9AM breakfast? Also... no one has really mentioned who will be in the parade. :confused3

1- Approx. between 8:30 and 8:45. (Arrive early.)

2- Miley Jonas and the Cyrus Brothers. (I have no idea. ;) )

We are planning on arriving at MK on the 5th (The first day of our trip) around 1 or 2. Will we be able to get into the park and skip Main st by riding the train around to Splash Mtn area?

If the train is running, that will work fine.

An alternative is to walk through the shops of Main Street (they are connected inside.)

There is also a possibility that they will be channeling guests BACKSTAGE (near Tony's) to bypass Main Street.

We are going Dec. 3 through 8 and the best day to do MK is, unfortunately, Dec. 5th, when they're taping the parade.

How are the lines for rides and characters while they're taping the parades?

How do you enter the park if you're not part of the parade activities? Does it open early? etc Are there specials directions that day?

How are people chosen to line up for the parade?

Our only other option is to leave MK for Monday, Dec 7, which is our last day. With young kids I don't know if I can hold them off on MK for that long.

Any recommendations?

We found that Main Street was a total zoo, but once you got past that, it was fine.

Unless you have a special ticket (usually given to Ap holders and CM's) then you would enter at the usual opening time. If the train is running, I'd suggest getting on and heading back to Toontown or Frontierland and starting there to avoid the chaos on Main Street. If the train isn't running, you probably will have to head through the shops on Main St. I have heard that in the past that they have opened up backstage areas to get through, as shown in Robo's map, but personally, I wouldn't want to go that way with the kids, unless I had to.

They usually pick CM's and AP holders to stand along the parade route.
