December 2009

Oh, alas. Disneyland Paris did not live up to high Disney service expectations I fear, but we didn't know that yet. Well rid of Suzette, we battled our way out of the crowded lobby. Mom was going first and she got the door open, clearly having a hard time, wheeling two suitcases, and a big grown man cut her off just as she was about to go through. I was astonished. European manners are clearly not on their best display at Euro Disney.

Uh Oh! This does not bode well... :sad2:

I'm sure your Mom handled everything graciously, however.

It was a white wintery wild west getting to our building and then the room. I did really like the buildings and the way it looked like the set of an old Western.

The outside looks very well-themed... Inside, the headboards may have been just *meh*, but I like the cowboy wallpaper in the bathroom!

On to the park, buckaroos!

Hello! :wave2:

I just stumbled upon your trip report and I am sooooooooooo jealous. I want to go to Disneyland Paris!! Maybe someday when I'm no longer a broke college student I can finally take that trip throughout Europe I've always dreamed about.

I can't wait to read about the rest of your trip! popcorn::

Aww now we get the really good stuff!! I absolutely love the castle at DLP, in my mind (although I adore the WDW one) it is definately the prettiest!! :)

Oh and when I went to DLP just before Christmas, this is the sight I saw when we walked into the park!!!

That pink all over the hotel is phenomenal..(pink is one of my faaaaavorite colors!...ties with green!!) I would love to stay there!

that is BEAUTIFUL!!!!:goodvibes Never a chance of that in Florida!!!!

Oh, it looks so pretty!

I'm a Junior currently; class of 2011.

I'd love to travel abroad someday, perhaps in Spain or England.

Wow, its so wierd to look at those pictures of DLP. Gorgeous, but just interesting to see that it looks almost the same, but almost totally different at the same time. The castle is definitely a pretty looking castle. I think my heart will always like with the Magic Kingdom though....

OH my GOSH! DLP looks SO pretty! and OH.... the Castle looks SO Snobbish! You cannot believe how much I am enjoying reading your trippie! You are the BEST! So nice of you to share this with the Dis community. And, of course, you are now making me wish for a DLP visit! ;) A girl can dream...

that is BEAUTIFUL!!!!:goodvibes Never a chance of that in Florida!!!!

haha it may look pretty but it was a pain! It shut down some of the rides and made the parades impossible. The whole time we were there we didn't get to see the Fantallusion parade (simular to Spectro) it was so sad!

Fabulous Trip Report so far!!! I just caught up. Seeing DLP is kind of weird - things are misplaced or different! Cant wait to see more.

Oh wow. The Disneyland Hotel is just GORGEOUS! :goodvibes How neat that you walk under it to get to the park. Everything is so different, yet similar. I bet it was so strange to see a pink castle. But it's really pretty. I love all of the details--it does look more fairytale like. And the lamp posts are SO neat! They kindof compete with the castle in the pictures down Main Street, but they are pretty. I can't believe it was so stinking cold. I'm anxious to read about the rest of your adventures in DLP!

I love the crowns on the top of the lightposts! Such a cute detail. The castle is definately beautiful in it's own way. I like the gold Mickey heads that are all over it. The DLP Space Mtn looks very similiar, but I don't know about all the gold in Discoverland. I like the chrome look much more. Can't wait to hear more!

Love these new updates! I have to say, though, that I will always prefer WDW to DLP because of (among other facts) the better weather! To me, somehow, Disney is all about warm weather and the sun shining, so I really enjoyed DLP when we visited in summer, but somehow I can't really connect these (albeit so pretty!) winter-wonderland-in-snow pictures with a Disney park :).

Talking about the lack of queueing (oh dear, did I spell that correctly?) abilities in mainland Europeans: You are so right, I am really embarrassed about it! :worship:
Germans can't do it any better than French, if not even worse. You would not believe what embarrassing scenes DH and I have witnessed in airports in the UK, when waiting to embark on Germany-bound flights and the announcement came "Please stay seated, the flight will be called in a few minutes". WHOOSH, the sound of a hundred Germans jumping up and absolutely rushing to the podium - with all the British looking on from their seats and silently shaking their heads. :sad2:

Even though I pride myself on being a rather polite person who has learned good manners and uses them too, I must admit that it is really hard being any different if everyone around you does not queue - because if you are the only one who does, you will always come last :confused3. So I'm probably no better, really!

However, I always enjoy being in the States or the UK where everyone is more polite and can queue, and then I also know how to behave (or so I hope!).

That said, I do admit that the degree of politeness embedded in English language and culture sometimes comes across as "way too much" for a German. This is no doubt one of the reasons why we Germans often come across as impolite when speaking English - we just do not adorn our language with as many polite addons, and fillers, as is customary in English, even if we are intending to be perfectly polite.
So when we learn English at school, we are also taught that to speak good English, you have to insert a whole lot of "pleases", "thank yous" and "would you kindlys" that we wouldn't ever use to the same extent in speaking German. :)

I would not want to create the impression that we are all a bunch of impolite and inconsiderate folks - actually, many German men and even some young boys would never step ahead of a woman when boarding a bus, for example, but wait for her and indicate that she can go first -, but yeah, to cut a long story short:

We can't queue. At all. Sorry folks. :rolleyes1

WOW!!!! Soooo interesting! I really like it...very romantic like you said. I LOVE LOVE the Princess detail on the lamp posts. I wish they had that at WDW :goodvibes I am so excited to see how you like the rides! Also, I am equally as shocked to see CMs sweeping off the stage. Where is the magic in that :confused3

Coming out of lurkdom...

I originally started reading this report because I am studying in Paris this summer, so I have been trying to read up on DLP as much as possible! Unfortunately for me (and my schoolwork), your writing kinda sucked me up and I have now read all your past trip reports too! It's all wonderful, keep it coming!

:thumbsup2

This was really interesting to read, and it actually helped me understand my German grandparents a little bit better! :rotfl: Thanks!
