December 2009 - A Celebration of many things

Hey, jumped over from MaddilynnsMomma's PTR. I love your outlook on things--I remember all too well being broke my first year of marriage (teachers' salaries when one is at a private school and the other is a 1st year teacher aren'y great--especially when student loans mix intot he equation)

I am glad you found a way to celebrate--I have great pictures of POR in my PTR, here: http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=33785135&postcount=104

I'm a little late to the party (your party), but I'm hopping aboard!

HEHEHE preggo throw downs!! LOL I got a little fight in me and a bad temper! I could totally take my SIL!! Anyway that's why the names will remain a secret to the family and close friends. I actually like the name Adalynn better too.

Thanks!! I just thought the name was so nice and simple and so beautiful sounding.

Funny side note, our entrance song at our wedding was Enter Sandman! 1) Because it's just an awesome song and 2) because it is the greatest entrance song in all sports (Mariano Rivera - Yankee closer)

I really like the name Reese as a nickname. And it sounds very artsy so it goes. I'm glad you're with a nice guy like Kent now. I haven't heard much about your ex but he seems like a monster. Who doesn't go to the hospital when your wife gives birth!?!?! :confused3 Is Michele after anyone or just a name you liked?

I'm actually very excited about my must brings, to the point where I have been thinking about my outfits and what I want to wear on each day. LOL

There is an entire Muppet store in DHS right by Muppset 3D. I got a sketch of Miss Piggy the last time I was there. They have tons of different Muppet stuff, I'm sure you'll find some shirts there.

Oh I believe you could hold your own, but yeah, keep that name close to you, you don't want to have a preggo throw down if you don't have to.

Enter Sandman as an entry song? That's classic, I love it. I've used Metallica in some cheerleading routines but never heard of it at a wedding, I my DS ever gets married I am sure there will be some metallica played.

Kent is a nice guy, he is really the only "daddy" Reese has known. My ex didn't go to the hospital because he said birth was boring, seriously I went to the hospital with Jim at 7:30am and gave birth to him at 11:50 am, basically 4 hours to have a baby and he was bored. Reese was a scheduled C-section and he still wouldn't go to the hospital with me. My Mom drove 16 hours straight from Michigan in order to be there for me. And They bumped the date up by a month so my mom had to really change her plans around to get there in time.

The name Michele, is after my Papa whose name was Mitchell, It was as close to it that I could get.

I have been in the muppets store twice, never bought anything, and I can't seem to remember if they had any shirts or hoodies. I can't wait to go and look again.

I am going through my head what I want to wear each day too, it's crazy. All my shirts hang on me now, and I have had to go into my attic and dig out some smaller size jeans, my favorite jeans are too big on me now, I am seriously thinking about paying to have them altered, but then if I gain the weight back then my favorites will be too small, it's a double edged sword.

Because I plan to meet so many people the first day I am there I think once I figure out what I am going to wear I will post it on my PTR so hopefully it will make it a little easier to find me.

Wow! I've had lots to catch up on over here - you have been busy!!

I love love love all the photos you posted of your items  The bag is soooo cute, i love it!! Those t-shirts are great, I love the 'happily ever after one' that's really nice considering you're celebrating your anniversary  OMG those socks!! They are just too cute!! and a $1????? you truly are crowned the 'AMAZING BARGAIN QUEEN' :worship: :worship: The sweatshirts are gorgeous! I'm planning on getting one whilst there - do you know what sort of sizes they tend to go up to? Do they do heffalump size? Hope so!! That kermit and miss piggy purse is sooo sweet :cutie:

YAY for ordering your photopass cd :yay: I need to order ours aswell! I can't wait to play with the photos and add all the cute borders etc... Did you know that you can even upload your own photos (the ones you've taken with your own camera) and add the borders etc... to them and save them & have them put on the disc too :woohoo: I'm going to upload a couple of our wedding one's and put some of the cute bits on them

Thanks, I do love my Disney stuff and it makes me happy to see it all piled together, folded and waiting to be packed. I was in my in-laws basement yesterday and I was looking at the luggage sitting in the corner. It was calling my name and I said, "Soon my friends, soon!"

Thanks for the tips on Photopass!! I am super excited for it. As much as I hate to say it, this may be our last trip without kiddies, and then that trip won't be for awhile. We'll see, it's so hard to get Greg to actually make a decision on ANYTHING. He's so, "let's wait and see" which drives me nutz!!! But just in case it is I really have to live it up!!!!

WELCOME!!! Thanks for stopping by! I thank you for the compliments, but I honestly don't see any other way of looking at things. I mean I could invite the pity party in, and I could wallow in all the cr@ppy things that have happened to us this past year, but what is that going to get me. It's a lot easier, and nicer to think of the good things I have in my life. And honestly when I get myself thinking about my blessings I realize that things aren't really bad at all. LOL and in a funny sort of way it's kind of fun being poor with my husband. And we talk all the time about how one day we'll look back on all this and realized it was one of the best times in our life. And honestly, it was a blessing in disguise when I got laid off from my job. It was very demanding on my personal life and I was not willing to sacrifice my family for a job.

PS- I will def be checking out your TR and your new PTR!!

LOL as I said we're huge Yankee fans, and it was just so cool walking into our wedding with Enter Sandman playing. It really has an awesome intro with the bass and the drums and everything!! Wouldn't have done it any other way!!

What a douche!! LOL can I say that on DIS boards?!?! Well whatever, it's true!! I'm glad you left him and you're with a good guy now. And I think it is nice that Reese thinks of Kent as her Dad! I think it's nice when families kind of find each other like that. Like is some sort of cosmic way it was all meant to be. Anyway I know they didn't go with the evil ex this summer (LOL i read it in your PTR) do they have to anymore or do they have a choice?

Doesn't it make you feel good, though. Your clothes being big!!! I have to say having things altered it worth it, in my book. When Greg and I started dating I was heavier than I normally was. So when we were getting married my goal was to get back to what I was, or where I should be. It took a little while but I was able to do it and I felt great. But all my clothes were so big, plus I have to dress for work everyday. I didn't really have the money to buy a new wardrobe, especially work clothes, so I would take a pair of pants or two at a time and have them taken in. It was about $10 a pair, but I couldn't buy a new pair of pants for that. And don't worry about gain the weight back. When you clothes fit you well, you look better and ultimately feel better, and then you just always want to look and feel good which helps maintain!! Live for today, there are a million unlikely what if's for the future!!

I always say that I interfered with Gods plan, I wasn't supposed to marry that douche:lmao:, so God had to find another way for me to meet my true love, (my ex introduced us) The ex used to say to Kent all the time, "You want my wife? You can have her but you gotta take the kids too." But really it was my Dad who got Kent and I together, my Dad came down to Chincoteague to see Reese when she was about a week old, he wanted to go fishing and Kent knew all the great places and had access to a boat, they hit it off great, when I left my ex, my Dad invited Kent up to Mi, to go steelhead fishing, Kent and I got close while he was there and things just escalated.

The kids are supposed to go to their Dads for Thanksgiving this year, but he hasn't called them or e-mailed them since that day last June. I think he is done with them, he's throwing one of his "I didn't get my way so I'm going to ignore you." fits, But I am pretty sure in his neck of the woods he is throwing himself a pity party. He blames me for the kids not wanting to see him.

It does feel good to have my clothes hang on me cause I know I am smaller then what I was, and really I have tons of clothes in the attic to pick from, I decided that if I keep the weight off for 6 months then I will pay to have my clothes altered. JEans, really I can wear a belt, shirts aren't too noticable because at work (when I go back) I have an apron that will cover the baginess and with it being chilly I will most likely wear sweat shirts which I like big anyway. So I guess I won't worry about it till Spring. And also If I buy T-shirts at Disney I will make sure to keep the weight off so I will always be able to wear them.

What are great story!! I love hearing how people got together. LOL I think it's funny you met through your ex!! Kind of like poetic justice!! Greg and I met on a blind date. We had a mutual friend that harassed me for months to go on a date with him. I finally gave in right after New Year's and the rest is history! We actually went to the same high school and never knew each other. Greg is 2 years older and I alone graduated with over 400 students so it was a big school. I knew my friend from high school and she had met Greg when she went to college. Anyway, everything happens for a reason, and maybe you had to be with the evil ex to be able to meet your true love!!

I had every intention of going to the Oyster Fest this weekend, but unfortunately, but maybe fortunately, the entire weekend was a wash out!! As much as I wanted to go and have my fill of tasty seafood, there was no way I was going to experience that in the rain. Plus it gets so crowded you need to park at a separate location (like a couple of towns away) and be bussed in. With the rain and frigid temps, it was just not in the cards for this weekend. I was super upset because lately I feel like all we do is sit around and relax on the weekend. I am all for relaxing, but there are times when we are downright board. We're trying to be good about our spending, and it's kind of hard to find fun, free things to do. It's even hard to find fun cheap things to do. Anyway, since it was nasty out I figured it was a good time to get a few things in order that have been looming.

So Saturday after we made our farm stand/food shopping run we decided to go get paint for our bedroom. (sorry no Home Depot Limey Heist, Greg’s family owns a paint store) When we moved into the place we are now I had no idea what color I wanted to paint our bedroom so I just kept it the same color we had which was a pale blue. Our bedspread is navy blue with a few white stripes on it, sort of nautical looking, simple but nice. We have hard wood floors throughout our apartment and we had an area run in our bedroom that matched the bed. Well, one night the door got really sick and the rug had to be thrown out. Not a big deal, considering we got it for super cheap. But now we needed something to put in it's place and we're looking to not spend a lot of money. Enter, Pier 1. We found a bamboo run for $30 with a cool design on it in navy, red and yellow and the background was the same color as our wood floors, looks really nice. Anyway, you ever just grow to hate a color?? Well, I started to resent this pale blue, it's not that it's a bad color or ugly or anything, I'm just so damn sick of looking at it. And I knew that my bedroom needed to be a haven, a room that was beautiful and nice. Not good when you hate your bedroom (maybe that's why my sleep is all out of wack.) So we decided to go with a pale yellow, called Clover Honey, and an accent wall in navy, called Bon Voyage. We’re into color, my kitchen is currently Fireball Orange, and I must say it looks awesome!! So we spent the rest of Saturday cleaning, swapping out summer and winter clothes and getting ready to paint. Well, we kind of got a late start on Sunday so we will paint next weekend.

I did, however, manage to finally finish my curtains for my kitchen. I got a sewing machine for my birthday and I’ve have a little trouble using it, mainly that I didn’t really know how. Well I had bought fabric forever ago to make the curtains for all our rooms and never did anything with it. So I brought the machine and my fabric to my MIL’s and she gave me a quick little lesson on how to use it and how to make a valance. Once I got going they were really easy. They came out really nice considering they cost me next to nothing to make.

Next up I will tackle the Green Room (our den, which oddly enough is not green, but we refer to it because it’s our hippie room and it just has a earthy feel to it, it makes me feel like I am hanging out in Animal Kingdom). I have had the sudden urge to finally complete the finishing touches. Maybe it’s because we’ll be hosting Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve and I want things to be in order, or maybe because it passes the time and keeps be distracted for hours on end. I totally get into projects like the painting and the curtains. Also, if I put things off in our “den” before we know it it’s going to be time to turn it into a “nursery” and I want to be able to enjoy it before that.

Sorry this isn’t a Disney filled post. It sort of is, maybe think of it as a “Things to do to distract you from how much time you have left.” Plus, Greg and I have this game now, “How cheap can we find things” because our feeling is that if we really, really, really want something then we need to find it as cheap as we possibly can. Since I really want to wrap up the finishing touches I have been shopping around before I buy things, which also takes up time! I don’t think I have ever “shopped around” so much before purchasing something as little as a curtain rod (by far the cheapest at Walmart).

So friends, I will leave you with some pictures of my curtains because I am proud of them and a little Walgreens find. Back story – when we were in Disney in ’06 all I wanted were these Mickey pumpkin pails and all Greg kept saying was “How are we going to get those home, there is no way we’ll ever get those home!!” So I never bought them and have regretted it ever sense. So I saw a similar one in the Walgreens circular. Of course the Disney one is nicer, but this will suffice for now.

Cheap Chic Tip: Buy the necessities here (including cold medicine) No one likes to think that they will need it, but the last time we were in WDW we did. I had the most awful cold/cough/fever/sore throat ever. I am generally not one to get sick, but I was and it was so hot and humid on top of it. The gift shop had cold medicine but we paid the price for it!

Your curtains look nice! I made curtains for us when we lived at our old house. We had a ton of windows there. When we bought this house, we had much less windows and they were different sizes. So, we needed new curtains. I just opted for buying this time. But, yours came out super! I am usually so last minute and I have a ton to do before vacation to keep me busy...but I actually have had the urge to start packing! I don't know why? I really don't have the room for suitcases laying around half full all over the house! But, I feel like I want to! I have to refocus and see everything I need to do and organize that into a sensible chronological order! OK...talked myself through that! Thanks for talking about what you are doing at home! It made me work things out in my head!

Your curtains look great :thumbsup2 well done!! :goodvibes

The mickey pumpkin is cute  I lifted out all my disney halloween items over the weekend ready to display - i'll have to take some pics.

Thanks for the tip about the cold medicines etc.... I didnt think of that! It's a good idea to take them with us because if something is going around then we are bound to get it and I want a throat thats able to drink me around the world, so I gotta come prepared

yay! I love passing the time before we leave :) I agree with your cheap trick!! We've had to buy cold medicine and tylenol before in the gift shops and it wayyy over priced! Last Dec I got food posioning our last day and my mom kept going to buy applesauce at the CS at AKL and they asked why all the applesause and my mom said for food posioning and they just told her to take it and for me to feel better!

We always take a small bag of medicine: tylenol, cold, stomach stuff, and important: thermometer!!! bandaids and neosporin are musts too!

AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! I gotta get to Walgreens!!!!!

P.S. - Love the curtains!

Update: 10/21 - 9:43A - Our Walgreens is out of the Mickey Pumpkins... but it's a good thing. After scouring ebay and finding a couple I asked myself: "What the heck are you doing?!" - Madi has a personalized pumpkin bag for trick-or-treating!

love the curtains- great job- i can't even sew on a button. lol

the pics of the shirts and supplies are great. i have the 'happily ever after' t-shirt too. i love it. the kermit shirt is great too. I need to start planning out my shirts- i have way too many disney ones, including one I bought off this site that says DIS on it! I have disney shirts for DS for everyday too- including a safari pooh one for AK day, Toy story for our toy story mania party night etc.

I do have my backpack almost ready to go. so funny how early we pack. i am very much like you- very organized, everything must be put in its place. I did a focus group last week and had a home visit where two researchers visited me at home (a focus group on diapers for $375!)- anyhow- they were asking if it is always this clean and with a toddler at that? lol- yep, it is, i am a nut. and yes, i am already packing for a trip 50 days away. hey, at least we won't be running around last minute- right? :rotfl:hey and when someone asks for some pepto, hey i have it!:thumbsup2

Thanks! Actually now that I look at them the pictures don't so them justice, but I just thought I would share some of the projects I'm undertaking to pass my Disney wait time. They're pretty simple valences, I just wanted something on the window to make it a little more homey. All the windows came with these awful white vertical blinds that we ripped off as soon as we got in. We love natural light and we never used them and they were just so damn ugly.

I have been on a hunt for that Mickey pail for years!! Ever since we came back from our 2006 trip. I tried looking for it on ebay and it was like $30!! :scared1: I refused to pay that much for a plastic pail. Then I just happened on it when I was looking through the weekly circular.

Yeah, after going to Disney and getting sick I think I will be prepared for every ailment that could possibly happen upon us.

LOL I feel it is more important these days to pass the time. We're at the point where it is so close but feels so far away. Because I am pretty organized and I get super excited I get things done right away, so there are a few things I need to do, but can't be done until right before we leave. So I need something to take my mind off it.

Yes, the medicine is very important. I think this time I think we are going to arm ourselves with a few days worth of airborne or emergen-c. I'm almost positive just being in the plane and the change in weather did it for me.

LOL, I have also been coordinating my shirts for the parks. My Mickey earth shirt will be for AK, Kermit will be for DHS, Happily Ever After is for MK or course, not sure about tie-dye Mickey yet. It depends on if Greg lets me make him one. Also he's being a good sport and said we can get a matching shirt while we're down there for MVMCP. LOL I know deep down he loves it.

Wait they gave you $375 just for you to host a focus group??

I know what you mean, my mom was VERY much like that, still is. I never remember my toys hanging around and I could have eaten off her floors. Now it's just her in the house but I remember it being just as clean even when we had 6 people living in the house (Mom's brother and sister lived with us for awhile). I'm organized but a little bit more lazy when it comes to the house work. I do love clean floors, because I have a thing with being barefoot. I'm NEVER barefoot, only in my own home and only when the floors are clean. I love the feeling of a clean floor on my feet, but I hate it if I step on something and then I feel on my feet, YUCK!! I suppose I'm not that bad, I like the way things look when they are clean, I just hate to have to do the work to get it that way. :rotfl:

So I venture over to the UK Disney store website and find two super cute things that are reasonably priced:
416052838872

we love Nightmare before Christmas!! And also DH Greg loves French cuff shirts and I thought these would make an awesome Christmas gift.
420015155517

So I add them to my bad and go to check out only to find out THEY DON'T SHIP TO THE US!!!!!

So unfair, Jojo can order from the US Disney store site with no problem, how come it's not the same for us on the other side of the pond!!! The UK site has different things then we have, and lots of cool Jack stuff!!

I think we need to band together and send our treasures to each other! Save on shipping and get what we want! JoJo, you have endless options of who to send to, but you're our soul (sole?) UK contact!

That sucks honey!!! I don't mind getting them for you and bringing them with me? They shouldnt be too heavy so it wouldnt take me over my baggage allowance on the flight. Guess I could keep them in a lock on MK day and go get them when we meet up there? :confused3

 Have I told you lately that I love you?

I dont mind helping you guys get stuff :goodvibes if it fits in my case and I can carry it to the park or somewhere then i'm all set :wizard:

Thanks Jojo! That's very sweet of you to offer, but Greg said that he would actually like to see what they have in the parks. He's not an impulse shopper at all!! LOL we can spend 45 minutes looking at one pair of sneakers for him to just turn around and be like "I don't think I'm going to get them." Sometimes I just have to say "Just get the damn sneakers!!" But he wants to see if maybe there is something else in the parks he likes. It was sweet of you to offer, but the offer also still stands with me. I wouldn't mind bringing some stuff down to Disney for you. It would be my pleasure!!

We don’t have a touring plan, per say, but we definitely have must do’s and first ride. Greg and I talk a lot about what the first ride should be. We weigh all the pros and cons and figure out what is that absolutely ultimate ride for us that we must hit first. Greg is very calculating and methodical (his very much left brain and I am totally right brain, which is funny because he is right handed and I am left handed) Then, if we’re super excited about something else we list a second. Sometime we talk about what the plan should be for any new rides. Well below is our itinerary plus our first rides.

Day 1 – Thursday, December 3
Leave our apartment at 3:45am – Brynn (our puppy) in tow
4:15am – Get to my IL’s house (they will be watching our furry daughter)
4:30am – Head out to the airport
5:00am ish – Arrive at JFK. Because it is so early I don’t think we will have any problems checking in.
6:30am – Depart JFK for MCO
9:30am – Land MCO
Then off to ME, to the resort to check in, and then right out again to head for the MK.

Say goodbye to Mickey
Our flight it not until 7:30, so our time in the park will depend on what time we have to catch ME. Wow I’m even a little sad even thinking about leaving Disney. Greg and I have decided to go to the Dominican Republic next year and to push up our vacation to May. We hope to start a family shortly after that so I think the next time we’ll be back will be with a baby in tow, which is an exciting thought. Of course this is my super planner coming out, but that’s how we see it going, or hope to see it going. The good news is by the next time we get there Fantasyland will be completely finished!!!

Cheap Chic Tip: Disney Visa discount - The discount is valid in all Disney stores that sell Disney merchandise on property, however you must ask the CM for the discount, they will not put it on automatically even if you are using your card. Also, you don't have to use the card to get the discount. Show your Disney Visa card at checkout to get the 10 percent off and then you can pay by whatever means you wish. Which is nice for those who are into paying cash for things (which we will almost most definitely be doing).

Okay, so I have been a little lax with the trivia. But the good news is I have a bunch for you guys. I hope you're enjoying the Disney trivia, I just thought it was something fun to share with my friends. Greg and I are having a blast learning a lot of things we didn't know before.

Day 49 - What are the names of the Oogie Boogie Boys in Nightmare Before Christmas?

Day 48 - How many people can each boat on the "It's a Small World" ride hold?

Day 47 - What is the name of Jasmine's tiger in Aladdin?

Day 46 - How many cars are in each train of the Tomorrowland Transit Authority?

Day 45 - Who was the only "object" character in Beauty and the Beast to refer to Belle by name?

Day 44 - What character is the most requested by fans at the Disney Theme Parks?

Day 43 - Who was the first character in a Disney movie to fart? Yes fart! This one's for you and Mom, Ty!!!

Day 42 - Which ride had to have Imagineers create technology more advanced than NASA to complete it's design.

Day 41 - What was the first movie published under the Disney label to recieve a rating higher than "G"?

Your plans are shaping up great! I am jealous of your length of stay!

Winnie the Pooh surprised me, I thought Mickey for sure was the most requested character!

I am left handed also!!! I love it, but did you ever notice how there is so much more for right handed people??!! But, guitar hero is set up for lefty's!! We have a shop near us just for left handed people! Anyway, the right side of your brain controls the left side of your body. So, that's why you are right brained left handed and DH the opposite. Just a little tidbit I learned in art school. Good mathemeticians are often left handed as well as artists.
Day 1 – Thursday, December 3

6:30am – Depart JFK for MCO

Then off to ME, to the resort to check in, and then right out again to head for the MK.

We will be back sort of early that day also. We are eating at Boatwright's now instead of Ohana. Since we will be relaxing at the same resort, do you guys maybe want to grab a cocktail together?

Day 2 – Friday, December 4
