December 2009 - A Celebration of many things

What are great story!! I love hearing how people got together. LOL I think it's funny you met through your ex!! Kind of like poetic justice!! Greg and I met on a blind date. We had a mutual friend that harassed me for months to go on a date with him. I finally gave in right after New Year's and the rest is history! We actually went to the same high school and never knew each other. Greg is 2 years older and I alone graduated with over 400 students so it was a big school. I knew my friend from high school and she had met Greg when she went to college. Anyway, everything happens for a reason, and maybe you had to be with the evil ex to be able to meet your true love!!
Think of how many people who could be missing out on the love of their life because they don't do blind dates?
My parents met on a blind date, although my Dad says he was fishing and rescued my Mom from a lily pad.
It's great that you and Greg got together, funny though that you went to the same school and never knew eachother.

Good job on those curtains, they look great!
I must go and get me that Mickey pumpkin pail, that is the cutest thing I have ever seen.

We have a red room, it has red carpeting that's why we call it that, Reese calls it the room of death because Kent has all his furs in there, he is a hunter and trapper so our walls have skins on them. I did a faux wood finish on the walls to make it seem more cabinish, and my DH built the most gorgeous stone hearth, it's my favorite room, especially in the winter when the wood stove is blazing, it's the perfect place to curl up with a cup of coffee and a good book.
Our room used to be painted dark burgandy, even the ceiling, but it was too dark in there, even with the light on so I went for an antique white, but I'm ready to paint again, you have inspired me.

Your plans are shaping up great! I am jealous of your length of stay!

Winnie the Pooh surprised me, I thought Mickey for sure was the most requested character!

10 days is always our standard vacation time for wherever we go. A week is just not enough, for any place but definitely at Disney. Our Honeymoon was 2 weeks, it was sooooo nice. It was also nice to be ready to go home, which is why I think we usually go for longer than a week. However once we have kids I think 10 days may be a little too much for them.

I know!!! I thought for sure it was Mickey!!

All in all looks great! Let Jen and I know if you want to plan something!

We definitely will!! We're totally down for a drink our first night. I'll PM you and we can figure out a time. I'll also let you know about DHS. We have an ADR, but other than that we have no obligations so you guys let us know.

I was very reluctant at first, but finally my friend annoyed me so much I was like fine!! I remember the next day after our first date my mom was like "Oh I'd like to meet the people you're going out with" and I said to her "God Mom it was just a date, when I plan on marrying the kid you can meet him." Famous last words!

LOL my Dad has a cabin upstate NY and Greg says it's where Bambi's friend come to mourn. I must say that my Dad, even though he is a hunter, is very much the environmentalist and when he hunts we eat the meat and whatever he does use goes to the taxidermist so they can use it. He is very respectful of the planet and the whole circle of life.

Anyway, I love fireplaces!! Just makes things so cozy. My favorite part of my Mom's house is the fireplace, it doesn't give off heat, it's just for show, but you can see it from the living room and the kitchen which is the coolest part!!

we will be at Epcot EMH on that Fri 11th too!!!!!!!!!!!!

We will be having dinner at Mama Melrose before heading over to Epcot :) Our CLP is the next day at Nine Dragons..maybe I'll bump into ya!!

I have not received my Disney packet yet. Last week, while reviewing the emails have gotten and saved from Disney I noticed that our apartment number was missing from our address. Frantically I logged into our profile at the Disney website and noticed that the number was there. So I called Disney to double check this and the CM said that it was in our profile but not on our reservation but she would add it. I thought this was VERY weird considering I know I would never put our address without the number. I know from past experiences that it will get returned to the sender. Anyway the CM seemed a little unsure about everything and lackadaisical, so I called back and got a very helpful CM who assured me that the apartment number was in there and nothing had be sent out before the change was made. So now we’re just playing the waiting game…

I don’t have much Disney news to report, so in order to keep the PTR going I will fill you in on some otherwise boring details of my weekend, but it does pass the Disney waiting time.

I have discovered the joys of youtube!!! You can find Disney shows on there that have been on the Travel Channel, and such. I must admit that Billie inspired me when she posted the Unwrapped for everyone. Thanks Billie!!!! Shout out to you girl!!! After the Unwrapped there were other Disney show suggestions. You have helped me get my fix, and for that I thank you!! There are privet videos on there of peoples vacations too, but I don’t have the stomach for that sort of thing as I am somewhat prone to motion sickness. (not really but things shaky cameras or sitting in the back seat for a long time make me nauseous)

We painted our bedroom this past weekend and it looks awesome!! I am now in the details stage of it (re-hang our pictures: cost $0, a headboard that I plan on making: cost minimal $, some sort of lighting for that side of the room cost: as cheap as I can find it, and a curio cost: hopefully not a lot!!). The lighting and the curio are going to be subject to my new game: what’s the best deal I can get on something I like. I have found a few cheap but chic options at Ikea. I must say I do love this store for cheap treasures. Not the best made stuff, but is good for a just for now things, gently used things, and decorational things. I’ve looked on Craigslist for a curio, but the problem is that I need something small, as there is not a lot of room in the corner I want to put it in. The headboard idea actually came from one of my magazines, it’s essentially a piece of ply wood covered with quilting batting and fabric to give you a headboard. Cheap and actually looks really nice once finished. We eventually plan to get real bedroom furniture, it’s just not in the cards right now and I need to make things pretty before then.

So once the painting was done we started to clean and I just got the cleaning bug in me. I really got into the deep cleaning, pulled all the couch cushions off and got in the cracks, vacuumed under all the furniture, pulled the burners off the stove and cleaned those, ect. Once I got going, I just couldn’t stop. But when I was finished everything was so nice and clean and my body ached. So I did what every good woman should do after she scrubbed her entire house: I went shopping!!!

I have been to 2 Walmarts and I cannot find the Kermit PJ’s!! So I bought us some new sheets to go with our newly painted room. I was totally bummed that I could not find the Kermie PJ’s, but I did find a travel day t-shirt and now my travel outfit is planned!! It’s a bunch of Mickey’s (with different expressions) walking around the world, so cute!! So I will wear that with my favorite comfy jeans. They are a dark wash which gives a nice slimming effect and they are a little bit big and stretchy, but that’s what makes them comfy and good for travel. Plus it’s nothing a belt can’t fix!! And I will layer a long sleeve shirt under my t-shirt and I have my super soft, red velour, zip up, hoody. LOL I planned this all out in Walmart as I was standing there with my t-shirt. It just came to me like a vision, so I knew it was to be!!!

Ooooo I almost forgot. So I read in one of the December threads that sometimes, especially at night, it’s cold when you sit on the ground for a parade. So then I was thinking okay well maybe a blanket to sit on, but a blanket is so big and bulky and I know neither one of us would want to carry it around. So I was trying to think of something that would serve the same purpose but not be so big to carry. And that is how I came up with the idea of out little butt blankets. Yes, they are exactly what they sound like. I went to the fabric store and got some fleecy fabric and cut them into squares big enough to sit on. I doubled ours up, just for extra cushion and warmth (and because I wanted another excuse to break out my sewing machine). You don’t have to get super fancy, fleece does not fray, so if you’re not into sewing just cut a piece large enough to sit on and you’re good to go!! Cozy booties while you watch the parades!!

That’s about it, nothing overly exciting but the train is moving along. This week is a short work week. WOO HOO!! FOUR DAY WORK WEEK!!!!! We’re going to the Christmas Carol Train Tour. I’m so excited, I will let you all know how it goes. Plus we’re going to visit the World of Disney store in NYC. I have never been, I know totally tragic!!! We should have a nice day, we’re going with the in-laws, also HUGE Disney fans!!

Cheap Chic Tip: I love this one because it works for the Holidays too. Courtesy of themouseforless.com - if you have a list of things you need to buy for your Disney vacation, split them up by week. Add one or two items on your list per week to your grocery shopping and put them away until it is time to pack. That way you won't have to worry about laying out a big chuck right before you go away. I plan on adding a few things to the grocery list for Thanksgiving so that I won’t have to lay out a ton of money right before the big day to cook for the holiday.

Definitely PM me! That will be fun! I actually am thinking about just doing the foodcourt now instaed of Boatwright's...it doesn't get such great reviews. Either way, we will be at the resort that night!

You are doing a good job keeping yourself busy until trip time! Getting a lot done at home!

Great Cheap Chic tip! I will be using it!

Don't fret about the package--it was 32 days before I got mine last October and in June.

Come to think of it, exactly 1 year ago today right now I was eating lunch at Mama Melrose's!

Hey honey! I need to catch up with your journal properly :surfweb:

We're in MK on the 3rd and Epcot on the 4th - would love to meet up with you guys if you fancied it :wizard:

I'm trying to stay busy. I have Thanksgiving to host before I can get to the trip, which will keep me very busy. It's my first time hosting Thanksgiving, not my first holiday though. Last year I started having Christmas Eve. Anyway the good news is that the day after Thanksgiving I can decorate for Christmas, clean the apartment and then pack and be ready to go!! Then when we get back it will be time to get our Christmas tree and I will be able to put all my new ornaments on it!!!

I know it's going to be here any day now, I'm just so darn anxious!!! Friday we're going to the Christmas Carol Tour and the World of Disney so I should have a nice Disney fix!!

Ooo how was Mamma Melrose's? We've never been before but we're going on this trip.

No worries, read at your leisure. :) I know not everyone has as much free time as I do. Sometimes that's a curse though, which is why I have to get crafty with things to distract me from Disney waiting time.

The 4th is our Drink Around the World Day. We have a ressie at Rose & Crown at 3:30 and out plan was to start around 1:00ish so we have plenty of time to stroll, shop, and drink!!! You interested in joining us!?!?!

All of you are going to be home before I even get there. :sad1:

No worries, the trip reports will help you get in the Disney mood!! And the sooner we get back the sooner you go!! Wait, not that I want our trips to be rushed, but you know what I mean!!

Our pictures will help hype you up!!! :thumbsup2

Amen, sista!!!

Mama Melrose's was great! I've been there twice--both times for lunch, and it was a nice change from the parks.

It was the highlight of my day!! Now I know for sure that Disney has the apartment number. Disney package any day now!!!

congrats on DME!!! It seems like we're all getting our packages at the same time! I do not get anymore packages from Disney since I've booked with my CM discount so this should be the last mickey mail that I'll get before the trip!

Nice cheap trick!!!

LOL I think I did the banana dance for real when the DME packet came. I was on my way to the grocery store and stopped at the end of the driveway on the way out to get the mail. I saw the packet and was dancing in my seat. LOL between my little celebration in the dairy aisle last week and the car dancing this week the people in the neighborhood probably will be ready to commit me!

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY I'm so happy you received it safely

I am patiently awaiting my mail...

Kent is a hunter but he only shoots if he knows he can get the kill, he would hate to just injure an animal and have it eventually be a waste. We use everything too, he has been saving up the deer hides and we plan to make a bed spread with it eventually.
bed.jpg
Kent made me this bed frame for our 10th anniversary. I fell in love with beds like these at Bass Pro shop and told Kent I wanted one. I had no idea he would make me one, I love it so much.
We heat our whole house with our wood stove, we can't afford fuel now so I am so grateful that Kent built this for us, his Grandma owns like 20 acres and so he goes there and chops wood from dead fallen trees, he always has to cut for the follwing year though so that the wood will be dry enough to burn, to me it seems like a lot of work, to him it's play time, he says it destresses him.

This is our woodstove and Kent did all the stone work. He also had to build a chimney for it outside, He amazes me with the things he can do. I don't mean to brag and highjack your PTR I am just really proud of Kent.

I love the idea of butt blankets, that's brilliant!!! I have to remember that.

I think it's so cute that you planned your whole outfit while at Walmart, I can just see you drifting off, staring into space as you put this outfit together.
I think I have my travel outfit planned, I keep going around and around with it, I'm not sure if I want something dressier or if I want jeans and T-shirt.
Would you like me to see if my walmart has any of the Kermit Jammies left? I can pick them up for you and mail them to ya. Just let me know.
The Mickey shirt sounds really cute though.

I have never been to the world of Disney in NYC either:guilty: I would love to visit it some day, our Disney store closed down last year, it was just a little store but it still gave me my fix, now I don't even have that.
It's great your foing with Disney lovers, that only adds to the fun and you won't have non Disney people going "Can we leave now?

Love your cheap chic idea, that is pretty much how I have been shopping for this trip, just tidbits here and there,

LOL I totally I know what you're talking about!!! I was doing a little dance up the stairs with the envelope in my hand (think Rafiki and Simba at the beginning of the Lion King) and the dog was just as excited (except she didn't really know why) and I tripped over her and Greg took the opportunity to laugh at me, make fun of me and then said "Please be careful there was almost no trip because you would have been in a body cast." At which point I informed him there would be a trip no matter what even if I had just one working finger to put the button on the motorized scooter.

I am patiently awaiting my mail...

It will be there soon. Probably next week, I promise!!

Sounds great :thumbsup2

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY I'm so happy you received it safely

I know I was totally worried that it was going to get returned and then it would be forever until we got it. My next heart attack came when I thought they had the wrong flight numbers, but I was the one who was wrong and all is good. Jo, you should get yours very soon, it's probably just taking a little longer since you're a little further away.

Kent made me this bed frame for our 10th anniversary. I fell in love with beds like these at Bass Pro shop and told Kent I wanted one. I had no idea he would make me one, I love it so much.

That is amazing!! I can't believe he made that!?!? That is so beautiful, and what a great idea for a anniversary gift!!

This is our woodstove and Kent did all the stone work. He also had to build a chimney for it outside, He amazes me with the things he can do. I don't mean to brag and highjack your PTR I am just really proud of Kent.

No worries, highjack away!! I think it's wonderfully sweet that you are so proud of him, and he is very talented so I can understand why you are. My Dad is very much like that. He's a archer, his favorite it bow season. But he's like the reincarnation of a Native American. He makes his own bows, arrows, and quivers. Seriously, like takes a block of wood and carves our a bow, it's amazing. Greg is very handy too, but my Dad has good ideas. I keep telling Greg we have to hurry up and buy a house before my Dad is too old to help us. I must say thought it's really helpful having someone that can do stuff. I like not having to call the maintenance guy every time something goes wrong. Greg just fixes it, it's just easier.

I have never been to the world of Disney in NYC either:guilty: I would love to visit it some day, our Disney store closed down last year, it was just a little store but it still gave me my fix, now I don't even have that.

I am so excited for Friday. More so because tomorrow is my last day of work for the week!!! YAY SHORT WEEK!! I am also very close with my in-laws, I actually enjoy their company and they are very good to me and Greg. So when we do things like this that I know they would like to do I invite them along. They go over the moon when we do things like this, it's really nothing, but to them none of the others do this (well Greg sister does but the other two don't) so it just confirms our sport as favorite child and Daughter in-law :)

Thanks for the offer on the PJ's!! I think I am going to wait and save the money for the Disney trip. This is always a tricky time for me because I have my birthday 12/22 and then Christmas right after. And between the two families their are a lot of people and a lot of presents (which is really nice, but you end up with a lot of stuff). So I try to save anything I might want for the Birthday/Christmas list (it's really like the same day). But thank you so much for the offer, that was so sweet of you!!
