December 2009 - A Celebration of many things

LOL to ferrets even eat meat, I mean I guess this one does but traditionally. But you're right, even in this past year and can tell it's worth it. Sometimes we just laugh so hard and the craziness and the small stuff. Last night on the way home DH almost made me pee my pants. He's been interviewing for someone to work under him, and it's down to 2 guys and he was trying to figure out what kind of test the next interviewing round should have. So I said, "Let me meet them, I'll put my feelers out." Dead serious, DH replies, "Tentacles, honey. You have tentacles." It just made me laugh so hard. I can be a little abrasive at times, and I fully know it. But it was just so funny because it was so true.

Yup, Thats all ferrets are supposed to eat protien the higher the persentage the better. Ours is a little pill he likes to kiss mommy's feet and I'm ticklish. We also have 4 dogs, a hamster and fish. Quite a collection ,Huh? They just make me laugh, They actually think the ferret (wall-e) is one of them, they love to play hide and seek with him. They listen better than my kids do. I keep laughing about the tenticles, the picture in my mind is a bit scary. Oh, I have a money saving tip I do . I take left-overs for lunch to work. I figure I save about $5-$8 dollars a day. I also love Iced tea and its $1 dollar a day to buy it so I make my own and I carry one of those bubba kegs and it keeps ice all day. It doesn't seem like much but I figure I save about $120 to $180 A month.:thumbsup2 More money for Disney:cool1:

Brilliance!! I totally love this!! Hey if anyone else has some really good tips I am dying to know them. Please, share the wealth!!!
I'm going to MVMCP on Dec 1 and I went out and got my glowsticks at the dollar store. I'm a big kid I even got the barret ones:banana::banana:

I totally have a pair of light up, pink, feathery, head banded mickeys that I seriously plan on bringing back. DH bought them for me during out 2006 trip and after we got back I used them as a desk decorator at work, but I will have them for SpectroMagic. I am also almost finished with our count down calendar. I so need a child in my life!!:rotfl2:

I am a toast girl and I know they don't have toasters in the rooms so I went out today and got a 2 slice toaster for like $12 for the trip. We are driving and have a van but DH thinks I'm nuts, he just laughs about me. I also got lip stuff , individual creamers for my hot tea and hot cocoa, I'm stocking up now so I don't have as much coming out right at trip time. Just a little at a time it seems to go down easier that way. Found some cool glow sticks at Wal-mart for a dollar, red and green. I have one rubbermaid tote Dh says once thats full I'm done he doesn't want to haul the kitchen sink into the WL.:rotfl2: I can't understand why not .Its just a few little thing to make it more homey.:laundy: I do get to bring a suitcase too.I guess I'll just have to rough it huh? at Disney right!!! I know this sound crazy but I can't wait to pack, I guess it will make it more real. I have a savings tip I got 5% back on my whole trip by charging it on my discover card and then paying that off . It Came out to like $200 back free money. It paid for our La NOUBA tickets.:cool1::woohoo:

The world is a better place thanks to the dollar tree. ;) I plan to pick up some fun stuff to take to the word. Silly eye glasses and what not for the serious pictures. Maybe some bubba teeth.

Grreat tips again! We are in the Disney Movie Club. Wait unitl around Christmas...they put out great deals! They will offer you to buy one movie at regular price, then all others at around 50% off! It is a great deal! Plus, they oftern give it at free shipping!!!!

So, I don't have any overly exciting things to report but I'll use this time as a little bit of a catch up/filler.

DH and I had a very lovely weekend. Saturday we hung out during the day and took and a little mall run. I had a free panty coupon to VS and then we hit up the Disney store to get our t-shirts (I'll take lot of pictures of everything when I do my "Disney stuff for Disney" post). Then we went out to dinner for my brother in-laws birthday. We actually had a really nice night. After dinner we went back to their apartment for cake and they showed us all the baby stuff. DH and I are going to be an Auntie and Uncle again. I am very excited and my mind instantly went to all the baby stuff they must have at Disney. I'll have to find something really good!!

Sunday was a lazy day. It was nasty and rainy here in NY so after we did our errands we got all snugly in our lounging clothes and vegged out. DH watched football (I hate football season, I'm a baseball gal!!) and I went into the den and worked on our countdown and watched some Disney movies to get my in the mood. I started with "Hocus Pocus" in celebration of Halloween. I love Halloween, I actually love all the fall/winter holidays. In my mind they are sort of grouped, probably because I go from Halloween decorations to Thanksgiving decorations to Christmas decorations. Once the tree comes down the apartment looks so bare because we've had all the extra stuff for months. Anyway after that I watched "Nightmare Before Christmas" DH and I love this movie!! And then after that I watch "Muppet Christmas Carol." Also, another one I love. I did like a weird Halloween/Christmas transition in my movie selections without even realizing it.

I am nearly finished with my countdown! We'll be starting at 60 days and DH has taking odd days for Disney movie trivia and I have taken even days for park trivia this way we'll have no repeat questions. It is actually looking really cute and as soon as I am finished I will post pictures.

Well, that's all for now. Thanks for reading and have a magical day!!

Cheap Chic Tip: This one came from a DIS board that had tons of these helpful little hints. I am still searching high and low for it, because it was a wealth of knowledge, but alas nothing yet. Anyway this one came from there. So, Peco's Bills has a really great fixings bar, top notch really. One lady gave the tip to make a side salad from the fixings bar. You can even make a Russian dressing with mayo, ketchup, and relish. I thought it was brilliant. It appealed to me two fold: 1) I'm always making sure that I get at least 5 servings of fruits and veggies a day and 2) even though I am on the dining plan, this is a way to get a side salad with your meal free of charge. Keep in mind that most of the menu includes a side. For example a veggie burger comes with a choice of fries or apple slices. Personally I would take the apple slices and then have myself a little fixings bar side salad.

YOur weekend sounds lovely. I love the lounging clothes and veg days, especially when it rains. (I have had a lot of lounging days though)

I used to decorate for Halloween when my kids were little, now I just decorate for fall and that last till the weekend before thanksgiving, then I tear it all down for Christmas, I like having my tree up for thanksgiving.

I love the movie Hocus Pocus, I think I will watch that this week. Muppets Christmas Carol is such a favorite of mine, I can watch that movie back to back, I never grow tired of that one. It's my tradition to not watch it until November, I might have break tradition this year.

Another favorite of mine is Christmas on Sesame street, the old one that came out when I was like 3 years old. I found it a few years ago and bought it. My parents came for Christmas a few years ago and I made everyone watch it.

I love the fixins "Make a salad" idea. Most times when I order a salad to go I take it home and use my dressing at home, then I save the pouches to use when I take a salad to work, I have lot's of salad pouches, I think I will bring them with me to Disney. I have never even thought of creating a salad from the fixins bar, I normally just load up on pickles. This is a genius idea!! Genius I tell you.:)

I'm a salad girl too and I love fruit too. The dressing packet is brilliant. Wish I had thought of that you guys give out some of the best ideas. :thumbsup2 I have a question have any of you who love scrapbooking used the cricut? I want one for Christmas and am wanting some feed back.

there is nothing better than a lazy day lounging around the house! Nightmare Before Christmas is a fave of mine, Hocus Pocus too!

Now I am going to ask you all to take a deep breath... don't scream and DO NOT hit me... I have never seen the Muppet Christmas Carol. It is on my Netflix cue as we speak... I apologize... forgive me DIS world!

I LOVEEEEEE those days when you can just lounge! I too did that on Sunday...rain here too! I didn't watch moves...I took a two hour nap in the afternoon!!! LOL Can't remember the last time I had an afternoon nap??!! Poot and Lulu watched Meet the Robinsons and Nemo though.

Isn't the salad dressing thing a great idea?!?!? Thank you, Ty for your Cheap Chic thinking!!

LOL :lmao: You are forgiven, but you should definitely watch it!! I love the Muppets. When I was growing up I used to watch Fraggle Rock (my mom would tape if from HBO and we would watch the same episode like a million times - ah the days because children's networks.) It's a good one and Michael Cane is an awesome Scrooge!

I miss the days of napping. When I was still in school I would come back from class, put on the soaps and just relax. Sometimes I would fall asleep, sometimes I'd just hang out. Ahh the good old days before I needed to be a grown up!!

I don't own a cricut, but I have used one, it's so easy to use. I would say if you are an avid scrapbooker and spend lot's of money on stickers and die cuts then the cricut can save you money. I chose not to buy one, only because I have so much scrapbook stuff to use up as it is I couldn't see buying another thing until then. And the cartrdiges and templates are so expensive. Also I have a little scrapbook place in town I love to visit and they have a machine that can customize any die cut I need.
Now would I be thrilled if the DH gought me one for Christmas, oh heck yes I would be.

I am a crafter and i know I would use it for so much more than just scrapbooking so I am gonna look into it. Keep up with the great ideas I just booked Wishes Dessert party for nov30th emh that night , did you see that food!!: I'm just gonna have to force myself DH is a big dessert fan.

Hey, I'm just accesorizing with your cheap chic ideas.

Accessorize away!! Anyone that has any other really great tips are welcome to share them. We're all in the same boat and I don't think there is a person in the world that would deny a tip to save or gain a little extra cash

LOL it took me a little bit to figure out what you guys were talking about. I got it now!!:thumbsup2

I too am a pretty crafty person. Our spare bedroom, that's really a den now but for whatever reason we refer to it as the Green Room (It's not green, so I'm not sure how this came to be) has a walk in closet and it is filled with tubs of all my crafty stuff. I have so many different things that I could probably do about half of a new scrapbook without having to go to the craft store. Let me know how your sticker maker comes out. I personally was thinking about trying to find a button maker. Who does love a good button!?!?! :confused3

Hocus Pocus is one of my fave disney movies  I love it, love it, love it :lovestruc Love Bette Midler in it, she makes me laugh sooo much. I walk around the house for days after I've watched it saying random lines :lmao: (should I have admitted that out loud? :rolleyes1 ) I love it when she walks out of the oven speaking french and says 'Hello, I want my book' cracks me up every time :rotfl2:

DH and I have made a pact that its now a tradition that every halloween we must watch hocus pocus and haunted mansion - will be even more fun when we have little one's in the future :wizard:

I looooove muppets xmas carol too :santa:

Hello Jojo, welcome back!! Glad to see you are feeling better. I've never seen Haunted Mansion, is it worth a library rental? What am I saying, of course it is!!

Hello ladies!! (and gentlemen, if I have an gentlemen readers) Welcome to the beginning of the end, of the beginning. When I say “beginning of the end, of the beginning” I mean that it’s the beginning of the end of our waiting, but the beginning of more wonderfulness to come. I know that wonderfulness will come because Disney will mark the official end of our first year of marriage (well, first year and a few months) and it will be the culmination of all our hard work and the beginning of a new year and a fresh start: smarter, wiser, stronger.

Anyway, it is official; Greg and I have a Disney countdown! I am very excited about our count down, one because it came out really cute and two because Sunday will be the first day will pull off the first Santa Mickey head. But I’m getting ahead of myself.

So I wanted to incorporate some Disney trivia as well as the whole Christmas/going in December theme. So I decided that would countdown would incorporate Santa Mickey heads. I cut out black circles and red triangles with some construction paper. I got a little better quality one so it would hold up better, but I was able to buy it by the sheet and they were only about 30 cents a piece. Then I used some cotton balls for the trim and the top.

Then I numbered each of the Santa Mickey’s (1-60)

I really wanted to do some kind of trivia on the back on the Santa Mickey’s. So I took even days for Disney Park trivia and Greg took odd days for Disney movie trivia. We printed our questions out in small font and tapped the questions on the back creative a little flap. Under the flap we wrote the answers to the questions.

Then came the “how are we going to display the countdown” question. I thought about a poster board Mickey head, but the Santa’s were a little big and there were going to be 60 of them that I had to fit and a piece of poster board that size was going to be hard to cut. Then I thought about a clothes line type layout, but I didn’t have enough ribbon or room for it. Then I remembered that I had a mini fake Christmas tree in storage at my Mom’s house. Eureka!! I punched a hole at the top of each Santa right about the number and slid it on to the branches. That was Greg’s idea. Also he was smart enough to remind me to put the lower numbers on the inside so that when I layer them I wouldn’t be blocking any of the numbers that we would need to get to.

And here is my finished product:

I love that they are all on a mini Christmas tree. It looks kind of funny amongst my Halloween decorations, but I think also it gives it a little added something! Anyway, Greg wants to keep score on the trivia, I’m so going to kill him on Disney trivia!! I’m post the questions and answers everyday so you guys can play along too.

On a side note, this weekend is our anniversary. Disney is the gift but I’m going to make us a fancy dinner. I love to cook and get the china and crystal out and set the table all nice. I’ll let you all know how my kitchen adventures went next week.

To all a happy weekend! Thanks for reading and have a magical day!!

Cheap Chic tip: COUPONS!! I was never really a coupon clipper, and maybe it’s because of the economy, but I swear there are coupons everywhere for almost everything! I do look through the coupon circulars once a week to see if they have anything good that we can use, and if your grocery store doubles coupons you can really get some things for a steal. Also look for coupons for things you wouldn’t really think of. When I shop online I always try to find a coupon code for free shipping, also I get coupons in the mail from Victoria’s Secret for a free panty and $10 off a bra and I’ve gotten quite a few over the past several months. If you’re in the position to be making big purchases, Couch send 20% off coupons in the mail. I just got one the other day, not in the position to be buying a new expensive bag, but I’ve gotten them in the past and they come a few times a year, maybe 4. Anyway coupons, even on things you would have never thought of before are a great money saver.

I have another tip that goes sort of on the conservation theme. I’m big into conservation, saving the planet, recycling, making sure our Grandchildren have a planet to live on. Anyway I was totally sold on the energy efficient light bulbs. So the other day I was thinking about the last time I changed a light bulb. April 2007. These light bulbs have been going strong ever sense!! That’s amazing!! I’m pretty sure they are more than regular light bulbs but I haven’t bought any new light bulbs in almost a year and a half!! I’m not sure how much they save on the electric bill because we’ve been using them ever since we had our apartment and started paying for electric. But Greg and I have a 2 bedroom, 2 bath apartment which has 1200 square feet. It is just the two of us and we shut the lights off and whatnot when we’re not using them and our bill is only like $50 a month. I thought that was pretty good, in the summer it is a little more with the AC but not more that $80 (and that’s a little high). So go green and save yourself some cash and use energy efficient light bulbs!!

OMG! That is the cutest countdown I have ever seen :lovestruc :worship:

I loooove it!!

You and your DH are amazing together!! :wizard: Can't wait to hear who wins the trivia points!

I hope you have a wonderful anniversary and am looking forward to seeing / hearing all about it  (You've just reminded me to take photos of the calendar I got Dennis to show you guys in my PJ)

I love your tips, coupons are great - whenever I purchase anything online I always google search incase I can find a discount code :thumbsup2
