December 2005 Info, Code, Dining, & Special Package Watch! :)

Yesterday I got a call from Disney Guest Services regarding my lengthy letter on the Best Rate Program. The gal was wonderful and did an excellent job in answering my questions, being honest, and assuring me that others "up the line" would definitely "hear" my concerns and comments. Below is a quick summary of our discussion, as an FYI.

We talked for about 1/2 hour. Basically, what it came down to is this ...

1) Disney is saying that there will not be any new AP rates that come out other than through the BRP. But she said they originally said the 120 days wouldn't change and obviously it did -- since they just lowered it to 60 days.

2) She said they are being bombarded with emails and letters about the BRP. While she wouldn't specifically tell me their leaning she very much "implied" that there were many, many, many, many people upset about the new BRP program. Bascially, we talked about the fact that most don't like the non-refundable deposit and are concerned Disney is going to change the refund policy on both pac kages and room only. Again, she indicated that this seemed to be a common concern among MANY.

3) If a new AP rate were to come out those with ressies under the BRP would not automatically get that rate. They would have to call and have the new rate applied. She said that many people are voicing the opinion that they are VERY upset about this. We talked about the fact that I felt, as many on the boards also felt, that the lower rate should be automatically applied to a ressie that was in the BRP since the program was suppose to be the best AP rate available... She told me that lots of emails were also voicing this concern, too.

4) She was very sympathetic to my concerns and said that ALL emails, letters, calls are being documented and ALL info is being passed on up the line. She indicated that the 120 days was changed to 60 days out --- she assumed -- due to the enormous influx of correspondence from AP holders.

5) I explained my concern to her regarding the huge increase in price from last year's AP rate to this year for same time/same property.... and how I felt it was way too much of an increase for one year. We talked about the fact that if Disney continues on this route that the "most loyal and fanatic" Disney AP holders will probably alter their vacation spending habits and look to spend their money elsewhere. She said that they had also received many emails and letters stating just that.

Overall, she told me that, the official word from Disney is that they will not be offering any lower AP rates, but that I should "stay tuned" as things seem to change regularly. Also, that the NO BRP reservations would automatically receive a lower AP rate if it were offered -- that would still be handled how it was in the past by the ressie holder calling and having it applied to the reservation.

Wow, great info! I'm glad we got our best rate when it was 120 days out.
If a lower rate does come out, all the better but we are happy with our current discount. We have always payed full rack rate.

We were in Disney in early Feb 2004 and went swimming 6 of 10 days -- 2 days in Blizzard Beach.

For stuff to do on site -- how about mini golf, taking out a "mouse boat", fishing with a pole at POR, walking the boardwalk, checking out the shops at DTD (including the lego shop -- if you've never been to DTD, check out the HUGE lego sculptures), go over to Fort Wilderness to the petting zoo......

Have fun!

Wendy

ps - we'll be ther ein Dec also -- I need to get one of the countdown thingy's....[/QUOTE]

That is great! I'll definitely bring our swimsuits. Can you educate me on how I would get the Fort Wilderness petting zoo? I assume I could use the bus system? Reading on All Ears it sounds like they have a horse barn too. My dd loves horses. And how do you rent a mouse boat? I couldn't find anything on line.

You can rent Mouseboats at Downtown Disney and GF and I believe at the Contemp and/or Polynesian. I know for sure about DTD and Grand Floridian but am not as confident about the MK monorail resorts but I believe I've seen them on Bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon. At DTD the rent at the Marina area and at GF you go to the marina at the resort and they will rent to you .

Now, I am no expert on Fort Wilderness by any means (you may want to ask about the location of the petting zoo on the camping board), but from what I found here, you could make a whole day out of it!

Looks like you can rent "mouse boats" or sea racers there, and other watercraft! There's also the Trail's End Buffet -- decent prices

or reserve Hoop De Doo! At night there is a Chip and Dale campfire (marshmallow roasting) and a Disney movie

Another thing you could do is tour the resorts for a day. We plan on checking out as many as possible to see the Christmas decorations while we're there......

Hi guys... I'm starting to lose hope that the free dining will be extended. I really thought Disney would extend it to encourage people to make reservations despite the current high gas prices. :confused3 What do you guys think?

Not going to happen. They don't need to encourage people to come during this time. People will come and resorts will fill up. Now hurricane season, yes, they need something to encourage people to come.

I don't know. With all that has happened this week. I don't think anyone can say yes or no for sure. Who knows what travel plans will be now. Plus, it's Disney, they can decide anything they want at anytime. I would still keep hope.

Me too. I was hoping I would get it in November - before Thanksgiving. I don't have any knowledge about how specials were run in the past. But it's now September and no word. Don't think it's gonna happen. :sad2: :sad2: :sad2:   :sad1: :sad1:

I know chances are slim to none that we might get the free dining, I have already added the dining plan to our reservation back in May when I first read about it on the boards here, but free would be even better!

Yes, I have the dining plan and I know it will be saving us money..... but getting it free... :cheer2: :Pinkbounc :cheer2: :bounce:

Free dining would be really nice but I would be just as happy to have them discount the rooms.

I will take anything at this point.

Please.......something!!!

:rolleyes1

We have a great deal with my TA right now for early December. :) We have POR for $89/night from Dec 3 to the 6th... That saves us $150.53 off of rack for POR ...;) ).

Time to get out the calculator! :rotfl:

Hi Wendy Darling! Do you mind me asking, how did you get such a great rate for POR? We are going December 2nd - 10th. We have reservations at Pop Century now, but would love POR.

:) Thanks so, so very much! :p

We're also going Dec. 2-10!!! We were going to stay at AKL (this is our first trip ever), but I just couldn't make up my mind. I have a five year old and one year old and it seems like there are so many other resorts they'd like. I'm thinking about CSR. My fil is going so we need a slightly bigger room, otherwise, I think POP looks like a lot of fun. I guess I better make my mind up or I won't be able to make my dining reservations.

For whoever was asking about the location of the Ft. Wilderness petting zoo...

Take the boat to Ft. Wilderness either from the MK or the Contemporary. When you get off the boat and walk up past the mercantile and the building for Hoop De Doo there is a path to your right just past the playground. Take that path around the petting zoo will be back around to your left near the stables. It is sort of behind Trails End. The petting zoo is inside the track the ponies walk around for the pony rides. You can go into the petting zoo for free and the pony rides are only like $2-3. My kids LOVED the pony rides. If you go, tell Tonka and Blueberries we said hello! :goodvibes

Hi everyone,

I hate to say it, but our family of 6 is now looking for a place to stay that's off-property. If there were discounts or free dining, I could justify spending the extra and staying at Disney. But without the discounts, I know I can get a cheaper hotel room/suite (and not have to get 2 rooms) offsite. And we'd be able to eat much cheaper off-site, too, so we may as well be sleeping off-site. Sigh... I hope things change, but as of right now, we're looking! Any suggestions?

It is a group rate through our TA. :) I don't know if they still have space available now or not. They have one of the All Stars, POR, POFQ, WL, Poly and now AKL. I got an email the other day from our TA telling me that we could do AKL Conc. for only $4 more per night than our Poly GV ressie. She knew I was wanting to try Conc. some time in my life but figured it would always be just out of reach. She said they just added AKL Conc. at $238. I'm trying to talk DH in to it but it would mean 2 rooms so it's not going well so far. ;) I am willing to do 2 more nights at POR (if it's available) and do some trimming of the food and activity budget in order to do it but he's not convinced yet. I will continue to push though. :teeth:

I don't think I am allowed to post the link but I'll PM it to you.

It's getting closer! I can't wait! :Pinkbounc
