The Villas at Disney's Grand Californian Owners & Lovers Group - 3.0

Just returned from my stay in studio 3504. There were several outlets that wouldn't hold my plugs, I had to prop the trash can in front of it to keep it in. Only the one at the desk worked well. They did not look like they had been replaced.

The Murphy bed is nice, which was a pleasant surprise. In the refurbished SSR 2 bedroom we stayed in the Murphy bed did not work quite right and was not as comfortable.

The counter surface of the dresser was sticky and weird, almost like the varnish was cleaned with an improper material. All of our stuff would stick to it but there wasn't any sticky residue on our things. And 3 of the 6 drawers did not close all the way with stuff in it unless we wedged it with the drawer above/below.

I honestly didn't want to deal with maintenance during my stay but I told the front desk at checkout and expressed how disappointing it was considering the recent refurb.

The view was great and we loved sitting out on the porch listening to silly symphony swings play.

Hopefully you get a survey of your stay so you can include your experience

Yes… the wood under the TV in the bedroom was sticky…. I scrubbed it with a Clorox wipe….

Here is the untreated middle shower and the post treatment primary bedroom shower.

It still looks old with lots of paint flakes… but at least it doesn’t look gross anymore….

The build up is definitely gone. But yeah...those need to be replaced, for sure.

Did that help much? We always wipe things down when we arrive but I felt like ours was still sticky after doing that.

Most of the wood surfaces are fine, it’s really just the dresser under the TV. It still has a stickiness to it, but at least I know it’s been sanitized.

My sister and I were in this room on Easter. The balcony was still blocked off during exterior refurb, so I'm glad to hear the view would have been delightful!

I don't specifically remember any outlet issues, but it was a short stay and your experience doesn't surprise me at all.

I agree with your assessment of the Murphy bed mattress; I had just slept on one at BWV six weeks before this trip and I thought this one looked thicker and felt nicer than that one when we pulled it out to examine.

@AstroBlasters you are a gem 🫡

Who knows what that is, right?
Given CA laws made it very hard to use anything with higher VOCs in the paint/wood finishing area a lot of professionals have had to switch over to "safer" water based items that "dry" quicker but ultimately will react more to just about anything more with water in them and will just not cure as hard as the "old school" stuff from decades past. I'm fairly sure that slightly sticky feel you are seeing is part of this issue. I also somewhat felt that on some of the surfaces in the grand villa and I did have some fog up on one of them when the kids left a washcloth on one for a few min but it did eventually clear up after a bit. Overall I think they team that did the wood refinishing did a great job and it was a high quality refinish on the items they didn't replace (former kitchen designer who has seen a lot of bad and good even by professionals). Likely the best result given how much CA makes trade work more difficult than they need to be. I've seen pros on vacation here in Nevada come and load up their trucks with "the good stuff" on their way home....

Yes, we've been talking about these. I find the handles a bit rough (too thin), but they are great looking mugs.
Oh, I never worry about function on them. I tend to just put them on the shelf for the collection and stick to the old faithful collection of mugs from Target and such for drinking stuff. Perhaps I should actually use them from time to time.

I could never get my wife to sign off on that

ETA: I'm drinking out of the Grand Cal one as we speak!

My husband put almost all of our Disney mugs up the tops of our kitchen cabinets. I'm tempted to buy duplicates of the DVC mugs so I can drink out of them.

Evidently they are great when new and they get much less comfortable with every passing day. That is likely why.
