December 15, 2012 A Yo-HO-HO-HO Holiday Fantasy!

I like the cruiser list, because after awhile it's difficult to keep all the names straight. Just wait until we hit over 100+ pages on this thread!

It also helps to know the real first name of a person. On my first cruise - I knew all the screen names of people, but found I had no idea of their names. Therefore, for most of them all I could say, "Oh, there's Mr. and Mrs. DISBoard Name"!

I have a DIS friend I met here in '07, have cruised with four or five times, we've visited in each others home states several times and I STILL call him by his DISboard name! :lmao:(though it is a 'real' name and not somehting like AJK1289)

.

Jackie - I know what you mean. Most Dis-ers call me Taswira (taz-wee-ra - - KiSwahili for image or photograph), and that works well because it avoids duplicates of my first name - more than one Shari.

But no, that doesn't work too well for those with odd user names, numbers in them or a gibberish word. :lmao:

I get irritated when people refer back to me as Jill, especially since my real name is Barb. If Jill was my real name then I would have used capital letters in my DIS name not lower case letters. I know when I reference back to a poster I will user their username and not try and shorten it or make it something that I think it should be.

Barb - I hope I've never referred to you as "Jill." I don't recall. But I'd have mistakenly assumed that was your name, that "jilljill" was just an expansion of it, even though it isn't capitalized. When I registered on the DIS, it was accidental that I didn't capitalize "taswira," and I wish I had. Although it isn't my name, it's a nickname that I answer to. There seem to be all sorts of user names on the DIS. Some people do use their real names and may or may not capitalize. Unless they add a different name to their posts or their sig, it's easy to make a erroneous assumption. Just reminds us: Never assume! ;)

I hope I haven't either! It does serve as a good reminder! Thank you.

Barb,

I am glad you said something - as I probably would have assumed your screen name is a variant on your real life name! This is good though - when I see you, I can say, "Hi Barb!!"

Another fun thing is to find out why/what people's screen names represent - if anything. I am a big Phantom of the Opera fan, hence mine.

PS: jilljill - I like your tag line :)

I was working at the Disney Store when I first registered and wanted a name that was not at all Disney related and one that people I worked with wouldn't figure out was me. So I used the nickname that we called our cat, that's the reason it's not capitalized.
Actually, it hasn't been until the last few months that it's bothered me on here since I see so many of the newbies just shortening the user names when they resond. But the funnier thing is that a friend of mine on here gets bothered with it much more than I do and I think that's why I notice it more. You know, when someone points out something then you become more aware of it. :magnify:

I don't think any of you have done it to me. But I just continue to answer and respond with their DIS name and hope they pick up on the obvious. But I know I'm asking for way too much in that respect. :headache: :rolleyes1 :confused3 :faint:

Wow...it's been a long while since I've used so many smilies in a post. :dance3:

I always thought your name was Jill! :flower3: I try to always use DIS names when I respond to someone, unless they have their real name in their signature, or they are someone I've met in person. Though there are a couple people in that catagory that I still us their DIS name if I know they don't want their given name posted on the internet.

I put my name in my signature because folks were calling me 'bouncy', though I don't mind when they shorten it to ibounce. Go figure?

Now I really get confused on facebook. After 'friending' DIS pals I've occasionally 'disremembered' what their user name is here. I posted something on the DIS in response to a 'pal' once and she replied "Yes, I know about that Jackie, YOU posted on my wall on facebook!" :sad2:

Hi, we just got off the Dream today and while on board I booked for this cruise. We are excited to see the Fantasy, as the Dream blew us away. We are ready to move on from the Bahamas and check out an Eastern itinerary. We think this will fit into DS 2012 Christmas break.

Looking forward to counting down the days with you fine folks.

Welcome disnewbie108! What did you think of the Dream? We will be on her a few times before the Fantasy and can't wait!

The latest is "Swaan," who is a Dis-er but has apparently not yet posted on this thread. :confused3

:welcome: Welcome, Swaan![/QUOTE]

It's me...Swaan (Sandra). We are from Toronto, Canada, and travelling with my DH, and 3 kids (DS 13, DS 11, DD 10). I booked with as a dummy date, and now hoping to convince DH to keep it, as the itinerary looks great (San Juan is one of the ports I want to visit one day!), and we haven't done an Eastern cruise yet. Not to mention, this is great timing, as I'm not sure we can take the kids out of school any more, as they enter highschool....

Keep your fingers crossed that I can convince him!!!

Thanks for the welcome wishes! We are so very excited to try out a new route on a new ship. Wow, lots of Hollys on this thread! :rotfl:

AmandaRG-The Dream was fantastic. I could not believe my eyes and how beautiful she was. She was magnificent. Every little detail was amazing. I feel our ship was fairly sold out. What you have read about the pools being busy on sea days is so true. However, we went at 830 am on our sea day and there was no one there. By 10 or 11am, it was maxed out. We made the best of it though. My son was able to do the Aquaduck 8 times in a row (celebrating his 8th birthday) one evening sometime around 830-9pm and there was virtually no wait. I would say, if you can, go to the places you know are going to have masses of people during off peak times.

We had some of our favorite meals at Cabana's. We had main dining and enjoyed our serving team. They did their best to keep dinner under 1 hr 30 min. We did not make Palo/Remy. Not this time, maybe next time. The night clubs were really neat. We played a LOT of bingo too. All of the entertainment staff were great.

The kids clubs were super and as always the CM's were great. The nursery accomodated our LO many times.

I loved the Dream. The Wonder will always have a special place in our hearts. But if the Fantasy is anything like the Dream, it should an equally great time. I think you will enjoy the Dream. She is a beauty. Just remember to make the most of your time and if you can, avoid high traffic places at peak times and I think you will be golden. Have fun on the Dream. You should have a blast.

Welcome to the newbies on this thread.
There are too many names to even try and remember, especially Holly's, so I'm definately going to use DIS names. :dance3: :flower3:

I saw a show on Puerto Rico the other day and they were showing the Bacardi factory and the tour. I have to say the factory has changed quite a bit since I was there in the early 80's and I can't wait to go back there. The tour is free if you go on your own. I'm going to look into if they have any kind of shuttles from the port or hope that DCL has an excursion there. We're definately not going to rent a car for the day to go there, traffic was horrible almost 30 years ago I hate to see what it is like now. :headache:
When I told DH about doing this he really just looked at me and shook his head and rolled his eyes. I told him the only reason I was thinking about it was because of the tv show, not because I want to start planning for this cruise this far out. We have too many other cruises/vacations between now and then to start worrying about it yet.

I'm terrible at names, but with so many Holly's, I'll have a better chance to get it right!

A Bacardi tour sounds like fun!

We have a few vacations between now and then, too! We are going to TX tomorrow to hang at the beach with our youngest dd's birthfamily for a few days so that is where my head has been. That and our first trip to WDW in November after spending Halloween on the Dream. My goodness, there is so much to think about there! I'm trying to treat it like a scouting trip for our future vacations! I'm Amanda, I'm 41 and I have never been to WDW! Whew, got that off of my chest. LOL.
