December 12 - 19, 2009 Western Magic

For this one, I'm not asking you to guess what it's a picture of (it's pretty obvious), but I want to know where was this picture taken. And bonus points if anyone can guess where I was or what I was doing when I took this picture.

Ok.. I am going to guess the local as well.. Grand Cayman? I am guessing you were in a tender boat

Ok, this is our FIRST cruise. I am new to cruises and also new to forums. I am trying to make heads-or-tails of all the forum slang, etc.

I will be going on the Dec 12 Magic cruise with my daughter, who will be turning 11 on the cruise.

I don't even know what to pack!

Help!!

On the main cruise board there is a thread (I think it's under FAQs) that has packing ideas. There is a semi-formal and formal night (but your not forced to participate).

I also have an 11 year old! She turned 11 in Oct.
AND I have a birthday on the cruise too!

You are going to be so glad you came. Ask away with questions and do check out the FAQ sticky.

again welcome.

With all the family gatherings this weekend we were afraid someone would spill the beans so we told the kids this morning about our cruise.

We did a scavenger hunt. The clues led them on the hunt for Tink, Mickey and Donald (and to escape Captain Hook).

The final clue led them to a Macy's bag with the Captain Mickey in it. The clue taped to Mickey and the clock...attached to the Mickey was a note that said "Mickey says it's time to go someplace in a couple of weeks...run tell Mommy and Daddy where you think you're going.

the kids thought Disney World...but we pointed out the CAP on Mickey's head. They were jumping up and down at the thought of a cruise. And we cannot wait to go.

My son promises to sing Happy Birthday to me and that lots of other people will sing too!

I'm so glad that I don't have to hide everything anymore. :cutie:

the days are really counting down!

Ok, yesterday... I could find nothing I liked.

With help from Scooby, I now have multiple things that I think are just perfect. Thanks sooo much. You made my day in Iowa City much less stressful. I can tolerate the wait because I don't have as much to do.

Are Dr's all over the country 90 minutes late for appointments?

Just got our cruise docs in the mail - yeah! Anyone else for late dinner with kids besides us? That is actually our preference since we are from the west coast.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving tomorrow.

We're currently on late seating, but I did waitlist us for the earlier time. Not sure tho. My 3/4 year old really goes steeply downhill when she gets tired, around 8. But, maybe she could be sleepy at dinner and enjoy shows at 6:30, rather than eat while awake but see nothing after 8 pm? Also like the idea of not having to rush back from port to have dinner.

I pushed the thread over! :rotfl:

Question: Three people have now mentioned packing and bringing sodas and water. I was under the impression that sodas and water were available 24/7 for free. What am I missing?

For those still pondering clothes, I finally found Jason's burgundy shirt at Burlington Coat Factory. Should have thought of them first thing! They had dozens of boy's dress shirts in every possible color, and lots of good looking sets as well. If anyone is still hunting, they have lots of pretty kids' dress clothes.

Two last major tasks, need to research and buy a good digital camera, and need to find a pool to practice with snorkel gear. Going to pull the suitcases down from the attic along with all the Christmas decorations. SO MUCH TO DO!!!! :scared1:

We don't really hit too many shows, so for us the early dinner is good :). You could also feed your child at the buffet and put them in the kids club if dinner is a chore... they can relax and even sleep there if they need to.

No they are not! They should let people know if they are going to be so you can leave. Its unprofessional to not let patients know when theres a delay.

Bottled water isnt free on the ship and I think they carry Coke but not Pepsi , hence people bring their own on board. The ships bottle water is very expensive somewhere around 30 dollars or more a case,:scared1:
I prefer water over soda and drink a lot, so we bring two case for me. We also take a bottle each when we get off the ship in other countries because you can get sick from the water supply there.

Water from the tap is free and I think theres a water spigot on the soda fountain, not very convenient.

We bring our refillable water bottles and fill them up from the tap in the bathroom most of the time.. we take those ashore as well... or buy water when we are out since you don't want to trust the water supply on many islands

TA here too and we are also going due to the amazing rate. Which Cat. did you take? We did Inside GTY, but then upgraded to a Balcony!

Shelebeen, thanks for the info!! We just booked the cruise yesterday because I am getting a good deal as a TA. We are really excited. Kind of bummed because hubby can't go, but excited nonetheless!

I need to go do some shopping and then get busy packing! I am kind of overwhelmed and trying to make heads or tails of what all I need to do!

We are late dinner as well and that is what we want anyway! Our kids have no issues staying up super late and on the cruise will deal with that with no problems. Can't wait!

Hi, Just wondering how you got the upgrade to Balcony GTY. Did Disney Cruise Line call you ? Thanks.

It was available, and at first we didn't want to spend the extra money, but when our Inside GTY was assigned and we were on deck 2, we just had to spend it. We have always had a balcony and just too hard to not always have one. I am a TA btw, so I got a fabulous rate!

I drink only water for the most part, and I have to have my bottled water...so will be bringing a case onboard with me. Anyone know where I can get one near the Port?

Wow you guys! I was gone 6 hours and you've gone almost 3 pages and got us to page 100. Congrats! :lmao:

We love our rashguards, and knowing what a pain it is to keep sunscreen on little ones, I can't believe more people don't use them. I'm looking forward to only one bottle of sunscreen for 6 of us for the week vs. 4 bottles and that maybe not being enough. One bottle will take care of faces, necks and my DH's balding melon....:lmao:

Welcome the3lowes! Totally ask any questions, and we're all really good at handing out opinions...:rotfl2: Actually some really great knowledgeable people here. ;)

We did the inside stateroom too. I thought about upgrading to a balcony but haven't done it as of yet.

A couple questions -
How do we take part in the FE thing?
How do we do the meet and greet on board?
Thanks!
