December 12 - 19, 2009 Western Magic

I know we packed 2 bags last night and I am shaking my head at us. LOL

Hey did you know hat the ship has a pressing service? Its far less to have clothes pressed than dry cleaned. We shake out our formal clothes and send them to be pressed if they look wrinkled.

we did - that will save me a lot of ironing and pressing

Is it just for people on the FE list.. I thought it was a meet for all on the DIS list?

I am sure it is for everyone so we can all meet each other - will be great after months on the board. I just have FE stuck in my head since I still need to finish my gifts - sorry for the error in wording. See you there. I know that is when Scooby is handing out the wrist bands everyone ordered also.

From DD (who will be flat broke at the end of her semester!)...."can I have internet on the ship?" We negotiated--internet or a cabin upgrade and she took internet.

"Mom, there's nothing like hanging out on deck 9 with my laptop." Just saved me some serious bucks. I thought about upgrading cabin but wasn't happy with price!

:lmao:It's too bad DCL doesn't have an unlimited package like some of the other lines do.

They used to have an unlimited package, but that was before they added wireless throughout the ship. So now that you're more likely to use it, they raised the price (by dropping the unlimited plan) to make more money!

Shoog, MemoryMaker, Faithfully, PoohFriend, your bracelets all went out today. Look for them in the mail!!!!

Milliepie just posted these. Does anyone want to exchange recipes? Or, is that just another thing to worry about?

If that is the ONLY reason you're bringing it, I'd leave it behind and just use the computers there. We travel with ours because we're self-employed, and need it often for work. Not to mention the pictures that are d/l off cameras almost every day.

even with your own computer you still have to pay for internet access. Just us the ones they have.

Is there anyway to share one of those unlimited plans? I too will need to be checking in occassionally. (But hopefully not much!!)

but I don't think I can fit in anything else! Unless someone wants a casserole recipe in the FE exchange?

I also noticed in a later post that there aren't unlimited plans anymore. THAT IS JUS TOOO BAD!

Right, just having your own computer allows you to log on wherever you want. DCL no longer has an unlimited plan. - Duh, sorry, I didn't read all the way down before posting either...lol

having your own computer also lets you take it ashore to some of the free wifi spots and use it there, etc. We always travel with one - partly to download and backup our photos, partly to keep in touch with family - we dont facebook, check the disboards, etc with it... but it is nice to check emails and work,etc.. also you can use it in the airport, etc.

We have a little netbook - so it is pretty easy to carry with us as well

This is our plan! If you google it there are list of wi fi spots on Grand Caymen and Cozumel.

There are no unlimited internet plans--they were done away with before teh 2005 Panama Canal crossing with some enterprising Dis-ers came up with a plan to share the unlimited access.

On the Western sailing there are at least 2 internet cafes in Key West which charge $5 for an hour on your equipment; limit is one hour if they are busy. There is a Starbucks in the shopping center right by the dock in Cozumel. There are a couple of hotels listed on line as having free internet access in Grand Cayman, but I have not personally used them--we were busy in GC. I have personally visited the internet cafes in KW and Cozumel (the joys of teens).

On board, the internet cost is the same whether you use their equipment or bring your own. Of course, if you bring your own you can do other things like empty your camera memory. If you are using the internet on board for e-mail, etc. go on line and download your stuff. Then log off and write your answers off line. Log back on and send. It will save you MAJOR time and cost!

OK, gang....in the last couple weeks there have been 2 robberies in Nassau involving cruise ship guests and one tragic accident in Cozumel where personal belongs of victims "disappeared." I'm calling DCL and asking for more onboard activities on port days. On our last cruise, on a full port day they showed the same movie twice in the theatre. Even if they showed 4 different movies (one every 2 hours), that's a significant increase in activity options on board with very little increase in crew effort. Anyone want to join me in a phone/e-mail appeal for more programming on port days?

yes, I realize that some crew get free time while in port, etc. I'm not suggesting a hugely labor intensive list of stuff. However, now there is next to nothing while the ship is in port; even a little addition would be great.

For anyone who cares...it appears that the CM and TA rates are successfully filling our ship. Many categories have gone to gty. Ah well, DD decided she doesn't want an upgrade.....and I'm happy with my cat 11.

The recipe cards are cute as can be. I'm out of time and energy.

Recipe cards.... too much for me! My husband has watched me make the fish extender, find trinkets cross referenced by age group and gender, sort, make and bag gifts, shop for formal wear in ten different stores, find snorkeling gear, etc. etc. He commented last night that I am the only person he knows who could make a vacation into this much WORK. :lmao:

Thanks for all the helpful advice on the boat drinks!

I will join you. Especially since Cozumel is the one port we didn't have anything already scheduled. Two things, can you give us the phone number and email to save us all a little time? And, can you cite where this news came from so that we also can mention the validity?

Thanks

All that work makes for a fabulous vacation!
