December 12 - 19, 2009 Western Magic

I don't know about size but I believe 50 LBS. is the weight limit with most airlines.

You're scaring me.... now I think I did something wrong or failed to do something. The online paperwork took only about 15 mins for all four of us. I just had to enter names, addresses, etc. We are coming from home and going to home, no flights, etc., so I got to skip all that. Did I miss something?:confused3

Does anyone know if there is a size limit for checked suitcases? I couldn't find one on the website or in the paperwork. I have a MAMMOTH suitcase that I am considering bringing. It does have wheels and a handle, but stands about waist high.

The cruise is running away with me! My "bargain" price is getting higher and higher, as I add formal clothes (hadn't planned on dressing up, now we are), fish extender gifts (can't help it, am getting carried away), pirate costumes, new beach clothes, snorkel gear, the list keeps growing! :sad2: But it's all so much fun!!!

Would LOVE to see the Princess and the Frog on board! :3dglasses And, if they happened to show Toy Story 3, my kids would be OVER THE MOON!

There is another person on board who is now cancer free and a celebration dance at the disco on boarding night

I just booked today, got a great last minute rate! This is going to be the best cruise ever!!! Wonder why i am so excted?!?!? :yay: Because I no longer have CANCER! I'm cancer FREE :cool1:!!! No more uterine cancer for me!! My last pathology came back clear, I feel better, so what am I going to do now? Take a Disney cruise, what else!!! My favorite ship, my favorite crew (I crossed the med with them!) nothing could be better! Whoohoooo! I am so excited!! Plus, I really needed a break!! LOL :woohoo:

HAs anyone heard this before about Grand Caymen or Cozumel?

Carry baby wipes at ports because they sell you toilet paper at the doors of public restrooms

Could anyone advise me about this?
Hiking
Hiking trails are as diverse as the islands themselves. On Grand Cayman, the Mastic Trail is a two mile stretch back in time, dating back at least 100 years, through one of the last remaining example’s of the Caribbean’s dry, subtropical forests. A hike on the Mastic Trail will delight you with glimpses of animals and plants unique to the Cayman Islands.
Orchids and parrots burst with color, doves and woodpeckers hover overhead, snakes and lizards wander the footpaths. Grand Cayman's Mastic Trail serves up all this wildlife, plus a lush forest of cedar, mahogany, and palms, along with lowlands dense with mangrove. Of course, much of the Caribbean once looked like this, but colonization and the subsequent clearing wiped out much of the native habitat. Even on Grand Cayman, which is a low, coral-formed island, nature once displayed astounding diversity. Now, through the efforts of the National Trust for the Cayman Islands, the Mastic Reserve has been established in the steamy interior of the island, featuring trails through portions of the original dry, subtropical forests.

I felt like it took forever to get all that infomation put in there!!! One thing bugged me and it was something I had to keep putting in for each of us, despite it have a check thing for it to be for the entire party. And now, it won't let me go to and print some page that has to be taken with us, because it says we haven't completed all the items above...which I did!

If the option to complete the last form hasn't come up, then there is some part of online check in you haven't completed. Usually it's the credit card authorization for an older child. You have to go in and specify whether or not that child will have charging privileges. Somewhere in the credit card authorization is usually where it gets hung up. Best to go back and double check it all, so you can then come back and complete the final check in documents.

Just wanted to bring this around as we now have two people celebrating!
Congratulations to them both!

Hi Everyone,

I've been a little more out of touch for this cruise than for most but we all become a big extended family through these boards and I wanted to share a story with you.

My DH and I have been Disneyphiles since we were little. He grew up near Anaheim, CA, and shook Walt's hand at Disneyland during the first few opening weeks in the 50s. I was a committed Mousketeer who raced home from school to watch the lastest installments on TV. We married the year before DW opened and my DH was entering his freshman year in college at the Univ. of Miami. Our weekends were spent camping in Orlando and enjoying the theme parks. We traveled every year with our children to spend a week or two at DW and in 1995 joined the DVC. Every year is some sort of mecca to Disney-something.

In 1996, work relocated us to Tucson, AZ. I grew up actively involved in theatre, worked in Finance and Accounting from the time I was a young teenager. I fell ill just after arriving here and discovered that I had renal cell carcinoma (kidney cancer). My bad kidney was removed and with the realization that I was being afforded another opportunity, I enrolled in college and graduated with a degree in Theatrical Production, Stage Management. While in college, I decided to apply for the Disney College Program and was priveleged to be chosen, at the age of 45, to become a castmember, first at DAK, then as a Studios Entertainment Management Intern. What a great experience. I was a 45 year old college kid at Disney World!

I now manage a non-profit live performance theatre in Tucson. 5-1/2 years ago, my cancer returned in another body part. Another surgery took care of that and I continue my mission of creating great community performances for our talented artists while believing that I am somewhat of a research project for the oncology doctors.

The desert has a funny illness called Valley Fever. It's a nasty fungus and sometimes hard to detect because it acts like a cold or flu. I contracted it last spring but it took months to determine what the illness was. Overall, I battled it for about 7 months. In the process of testing, it was discovered that my cancer had returned to my only functioning kidney - pretty serious stuff. The doctor told me in August that I would have my kidney removed and be on dialysis three days a week for the rest of my life. I said to him, "Can I get on a cruise ship with a dialysis machine because I have a Disney Cruise planned in December?" He said it wasn't possible for me to go so I told him that I knew there were other treatments since I'd begun dealing with this more than twelve years ago and he'd have to find another way.

My doctor then said that he was willing to try cryoablation, a method where the tumors are frozen and removed, the healthy portion of kidney stitched up and - business as usual after recovery. He said I'd have to modify some things in my life style but we wouldn't have to look at more extreme measures for quite a while, if at all.

So last Wed., I had my surgery and will be ready to dance on December 12th! Meet me in the disco that night to bust a move and celebrate life, purpose, modern technology, positive thinking and steady hands of surgeons!

I look forward to making new friends with all of you!! :yay:

Bev-toy:
There were public restrooms at the stops on our island tour in Grand Cayman and no one was selling TP at the doors.

In Mexico, anything goes--if they can get a penny from us, they'll do it. However, if you look one block off the tourist track, it's obvious why....

Do you guys have a list of the movies they are showing onboard for our cruise? I got it, but a few of the movies I had NO idea what that lady was saying and I felt bad asking her to repeat herself.

SO stoked about seeing Toy Story 3 and Christmas Carol while onboard...since we do plan to go seee them at home, we will not just wait and save ourselves that money! WooHoo!

I heard someone say that they will show The Princess and the Frog. It makes sense, that's when it debuts. (the day before we get on) popcorn::

Welcome! And, most importantly....WAY TO GO! Congrats, keep it on the healthy path! I'm really excited for you! I can't convey it enough on the boards. We lost my mom just a few years ago, so beating cancer deserves big time cheering :woohoo::yay::banana::cheer2:

You go girl!

Ugh.... I have just spent the last few hours pondering the various excursions, and I am UTTERLY confused, esp. by Cozumel. Here is my tentative game plan. Any feedback or red flags? This is our first cruise of any kind, ever. All advice is WELCOME!

Key West - I've been here before and am completely comfortable here. I plan to hop off the boat, walk from N to S and back again, dipping into whatever is interesting and buying admissions on the spot. We may do Pirate Soul or Shipwreck Museum, we may do aquarium. We will definitely shop and probably stop by a few famous restaurants (Wastin' away again....). We may trolley around a bit. I'd like to be at Mallory Dock from 5-6 to enjoy sunset festivities. Back to the boat whenever we get bored.

Grand Cayman - I think we'll book thru Captain Marvin's and do the Island Tour and the Stingray City excursions first thing. Seems this will take from appx 8:30 - 2 or so. With the time we have left, we'll probably just shop and wander a (nearby?!?) beach. IF we get done w/ Captain Marvin's earlier than I think we will, we might try to swing the Atlantis submarine. This looks cooler than cool, and I'd love to do it; it's just not fitting in very well with either Cozumel or GC.

About Stingray City... Anyone done this before? Is an almost 4 yr old tomboy girl ok? Can a shy 7 yr old stay on the boat and watch from above? Can you/should you bring your own snorkel gear?

Are we missing out on something by skipping Boatswain's Adventure Marine Park?

Cozumel - Geez. Okay, it's possible we'll just do the Xcaret excursion and hopefully get to shop a bit. I have a nearly 4 yr old DD, but she's adventurous and should do fine. Anyone else doing Xcaret?

If we don't do Xcaret, I am leaning toward the Cozumel Ruins and beach tour. I'd like to see a few ruins w/out boring the kids to death. One review said these ruins are replicas, tho.:sad2: This excursion is supposed to run from 12:15 - 5:30. Seems to go to Playa Mia after, which gets rave reviews.

It would also be nice to do some gentle snorkeling, somehow. Some people loved just renting a car and driving to various spots, esp. Paradise Beach. OK, I actually have no idea what to do about Cozumel. :confused3:confused3:confused3 Too many choices! I may do Xcaret just to relieve myself of any planning / decision making!

Castaway Cay - I really think we just want to relax and explore/enjoy the island. Can we bring our own little inflatable float rings? We can just snorkel on our own in the snorkel lagoon if we have our own gear, correct? I can see maybe renting a sailboat or a bike. My three year old needs training wheels and small to no hills/terrain. She can't pedal very hard. Is that realistic? My vision of this day is parking on the beach somewhere with our own snorkel gear and tiny inner tubes and snorkeling, swimming, walking and/or biking around the island, and maybe a little short sail.

So, veterans, am I crazy? Or will these things work? I really want to book my excursions in the next couple of days; I'm getting nervous. THANK YOU!!!!!!

Sorry so long-winded! Three more weeks! :woohoo:

Yes, I think this is it and I will have to deal with it tomorrow and figure out where its hung up!

Shoes! ugh!

I am thinking about skipping formal nights though...isn't that bad? I just don't want the hassle of it, plus DH hasn't got a suit, though I guess we could rent a tux. I have my gowns and the kids are good in that area as well.

Decisions decisions!

We were TOTALLY going to skip formal night. Then today I stopped at a ladies resale shop on a whim and found a gorgeous floor length black dress with a flattering cut and rhinestone accents for $23. Well, whatcha gonna do?!? My kids will wear their Christmas "picture" clothes. As for DH, I have no idea. If I rent him the $85 tux, the dress bargain is lost. Maybe we'll leave him in the cabin! j/k

Just sharing some research... :surfweb: Reading the threads, two outside companies rise to the top for Grand Cayman island tours and Stingray snorkeling. They are Captain Marvin's and Native Way; they both have their own web sites. Both receive great reviews.

I am actually leaning toward Native Way, because they go ahead and bundle the island tour with the Stingray visit, and they include the rum factory in the island tour. Also, the Native Way tour has a 10 am start as opposed to 8:45 for Capt Marvins. We are NOT morning people!

Google their names for more details. Just throwing that out there....

This icon is cracking me up. :surfweb: I just spotted (and used) it for the first time, and I am literally hunched over the computer sipping a cup of hot tea. Been this way for HOURS.

OK, after looking at Captain Marvins island tour I was disappointed thinking they had dropped th rum factory....I thought we had used them last time, but it was Native Way!!! So they are who we are going with for sure!!

Thats funny because we stopped at a Debs (young ladies formal clothing store)
and found gorgeous dress for my daughter. for next to nothing!
JC penny in our area sells mens tuxedos and shoes for less than you can rent them for so we own a tux, oldest daughter has a gown from her last high school dance that still fits her. We are set! I have a full sequined top and back slacks for me .

That's wonderful news! Congratulations!!!

Great bargain!!!!
We are not renting tuxes for DH or DS. They'll just wear a suit.

I also need help for Cozumel. Someone mentioned a beach a few miles away that you could drive to. I found some discounts on cars and mopeds if anyone is interested for there.

We don't want to do ruins, Dolphins is a little over the top since we're spending so much else where... So, my question is.... Where is a good beach to hang out, without too much money? I think we'll shop some too, but am most concerned about the main activity for the day. Isn't there a beach that you have acitivities on the beach, toys, etc? I scaled down Castaway Cay?

23 days to go and I'm booking a cruise...we desperately need this vacation for SANITY! Even taking the kids out of school for a week. :)

it will be me, dh, dd 11, dd 8, and ds 6. My birthday is during the cruise:goodvibes

I looked briefly through the tread...does anyone have a cheat sheet on who else is going on this cruise?

So excited and preparing like crazy already.
