December 11, 2011 Mexican Riveria

I'm starting to have second thoughts about leaving the dogs! I almost said to my husband the other day that we should cancel the trip because my red dog might fret too much for me :sad1: Crazy, I know, but we seem to be so attached to our pets that I'm sure it's normal for many people.

We are the same way. He watches us pack and we feel sick about leaving him. We are just doggie lovers. Can't help it. Our vet laughs because we book his time to be in the kennel a year out! Will it help that your dogs will be there near each other? I hope so.

Our TA left a message today to say that she has our documents and we'll get them when my husband goes down next week (she's a relative and lives about 400klms away) for work. :cool1:

She said that Disney is still telling her we'll get them 2 weeks before the cruise - maybe it's a standard thing they tell people, I don't know. But they're in the country and that's all that counts!

If not I will be wrapped up sleeping out on the deck! Well, maybe somewhere in the spa, now that I think about it!

Can't wait to meet everyone!

Sue,

Do you mind letting us know the girls names? Or let bnalexander know them for the FE list. Some of us are personizing our FE giflts.

I see you have a 20 year old. We're bringing our 18 (almost 19) year old on this cruise. I've already told him that he should check out the college social hour the first couple of nights, so that he'll have others in his age group to hang with occasionally. Maybe your daughter would be interested, also?

:cutie:

Good afternoon Sue. Thanks for the info for the FE. I have updated it to that point. Please consider including the girl's names if you feel comfortable doing that. I am one of the people who do some personalized gifties and the first names help. My cabin is such a mess...three last names in all...we are just using the last name for the family with the most members in the cabin!

Please check my FE entry for your cabin and let me know of any changes!:woohoo: Almost time for the mouse!

I need to let all of our FE participants know that I have had a bit of trouble formatting the spreadsheet for printing. It is because I don't use Chrome for my browser. Since I do not like the way Chrome is set up I will not change. So, you will need to export the spreadsheet to Excel and set it up for printing and print it from there.

Anyone that needs help, I will be glad to put step by step instructions.

Meanwhile, tonight I will take a look from my laptop and see if I can set up the Google Docs version for printing from the laptop.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

My daughter is 11 so hopefully she and your 12 year old will hit it off.

As I write this, it's 466 hours until I fly out. :dance3:

I've been reading heaps of other threads and have noted some things for reference and thought I'd ask you guys as some of the threads were a bit old.

Can you still get your passport "souvenir" stamped for Mexico if you take it to guest services? We had it stamped at the port in Noumea and the kids loved seeing their only stamp in their passport.

Can you keep your menus from the restaurant as souvenirs? Some people said yes, others said they have to be returned once you've ordered.

Do you get to walk the Red Carpet on Golden Mickey's night and have your photo taken?

Can you still get a 'first cruise' badge/button from Guest Services?

We don't tip in Australia as a rule, so how do tips work on the cruise? I know you tip for room service, but do you tip daily/nightly to your room cleaning team and your waiters or do you add it to your final bill? I don't want to carry around gazillions of $1 notes for tipping. And anyway, how much would I tip normally On P&O it's a set amount that is added to your final bill and you can adjust it/redirect it to particular people?

I desperately want to do the High Tea or whatever it is called now with Alice in Wonderland. Some people said you have to book in advance, others said you can do it as soon as you get on board. Is it still offered or not and if so how do I score a spot?

I think that's about it. I'm sure I'll think of other things. I've already started packing (started a few weeks ago - I put things in, take things out, change my mind and start all over again...) and thinking about what I can buy cheaper over there than here (almost everything it seems!).

Let's see, I'll try to answer what I know.

From what I know about the menus, they usually have to be returned. BUT there have been a few instances that i've read about, where the server will 'turn their head', so to speak, when asking for the farewell menu. I usually take pictures of the entire menu.

Tipping - How it works, is you tip your head server, assistant server, server and stateroom host/ess at the end of the cruise. For a seven night cruise it looks like this, per person in your party:

Server - $28.00
Assistant Server - $21.00
Head Server - $7.00
Stateroom Host - $28.00

You would also tip for room service and spa treatments if you get it. You can charge the gratuities to your onboard account so you don't have to carry too much cash around, but it's good to have for room service and such.

For the High Tea, I thought you had to book this as soon as you get on board. There are only about 20 people per High Tea party, so they book very quickly. I would look into this as soon as you board.

I'm sure others here will correct me if i'm wrong on some points. Hope this helps!

everything except room service has a 15% tip added. so when you get to the USA you should get about $30usd in 1's for room service tipping. also you account is auto charged for wait staff and your room attendant.

that was on the website next to palo dinner and brunch. when i tried it was sold out. but i belive they keep some in reserve because NOT everyone uses the internet.

Can you keep your menus from the restaurant as souvenirs? Some people said yes, others said they have to be returned once you've ordered. Usually the menus are returned to the server. If there are any "special" menus (like we had on our PC cruise), that is ones that won't be used again, we get to keep them. As mentioned by someonelse, sometimes the server will not pick up all the menus if you indicate that something is special about a particular one.

Do you get to walk the Red Carpet on Golden Mickey's night and have your photo taken?

Can you still get a 'first cruise' badge/button from Guest Services? I'm pretty sure they still have them.

You can have your tips added to your onboard account. These tips will cover your room host, server, asst server, and head server. On the second to last night, with your nightly turn-down service, your room host will leave envelopes in your room, each marked for the mentioned people. If you had your tips added to your onboard account, you will also receive coupons for each tipped person. You separate the coupon and put half in the proper envelope (adding any additional cash, if you wish), and you keep half. You then distribute the envelopes the last day to the appropriate persons. Any bar service you get will already have a 15% tip included. Room service, most people keep small bills in their rooms to hand to the room service person (usually $1-$2 per item/person on the order).

I desperately want to do the High Tea or whatever it is called now with Alice in Wonderland. Some people said you have to book in advance, others said you can do it as soon as you get on board. Is it still offered or not and if so how do I score a spot? Don't know if you are talking about the High Tea at Palo (an adult activity). If so, you would need to go directly to Wavebands (that's usually where it is) for Palo reservations when you board. If you're talking about the tea with Alice (family/childrens activity) you get the tickets for that at Guest Services. I would go immediatly upon boarding to get these, if they are doing in on the cruise (it varies). They are free and go fast.

I think that's about it. I'm sure I'll think of other things. I've already started packing (started a few weeks ago - I put things in, take things out, change my mind and start all over again...) and thinking about what I can buy cheaper over there than here (almost everything it seems!).

If printing from google docs will not work for you, let me know and I will walk you putting the doc in Excel etc. for printing. If you are using Google Chrome, it may work by just selecting the fields and printing.:scared1:

Instructions for printing the spreadsheet from google docs:

Open the spreadsheet.
Select all of the fields with data in them. (by dragging your mouse from top left to bottom right)

Select Ctrl-P
A box called Print Settings will come up.
Make sure the following is selected:
Options: Selection
Paper size: Letter
Layout: Select two of these options 1)Fit to width and 2)Landscape
Then select OK in the lower left.

Then it will give you an option to save the file as a PDF and you should do that (be sure to remember the name you give it and where you saved it. Then go to the PDF and print the PDF. This is the only way I have gotten a print from the Google System.

Note: During the above, your systems print screen will have also come up. I have tried selecting print on this but is does not see the formatting for me and prints four sheets....none of them useful.

Thanks all for your replies to my questions.

The High Tea is the kids one with Alice so I assume I head straight to Guest Services as soon as I get on to book our spots.

29 days to go until we set sail.

DANG IT! I missed the 30 day countdown!

Oh well, 29 to go! :yay: It's coming up even quicker now. I still have some clothes shopping to do, and we're pretty much done!
