Christie likes to go to. She makes her list and looks over the ads. We generally dont have much left to actually shop for. Its more for fun.

Heres something I want yalls opinion on. At school we have Historical Halloween. It is where you are someone in History. You have to dress the part, tell when you were born, what your significance in life has been and if you are dead (the date) or if your alive. Christie is going to be Maria Montessori. (she is the one who started the Montessori methods and schools) They go to a montesorri school. Howard wanted to be Dale Earnhardt Sr. or his Dad Ralph Earnhardt. They told him no. They wont let you be an entertainer, actor, or singer. However they let another little boy be Steve Irwin. I personally dont see any difference in the two. Would yall say anything? I am a non confrontational person, but would like to know the difference. Tell me honestly what you think, my feelings will not get hurt. He is now George Bush and hes fine with it but wants an explanation.

IanKH - the tipping is less of a big deal once you get there and sort of see who is taking care of you. We tipped our cabin steward what was suggested, she was nice but didn't do anything beyond the minimum required. Our table staff was amazing and so super nice! DH and I shared a table with another couple and they waited on us like we were the only people in the world. Our waiter was lovely and the bar waitres at Serenity Bay on CC ended up being his wife! She was great and we gave him/them about twice what was expected because they took such great care of us. I didn't so much care for tipping the dining room manager, probably because all of his work is more or less behind the scenes - the only time we saw him was the last night when he was looking for $$$.
We went to guest services and took care of the tips on CC day; Joe passed them their envelopes the last night. The money that we tipped above the recommended amount was in cash. I think once you see how much they do, it won't be so confusing. I know we felt the same way before we went last time.

Thanks for the advice on the tipping. For some reason it was just all beyond me.

Having an inside glimpse into racing - drivers are sports figures not entertainers. I invite your school administrator to ride four laps as a passenger in any racing event. Perspective is everything; it is a physically and mentally exhausting sport. :drive:
However, I think when your kids go to good private schools, sometimes you have to play by rules with which you may not agree. I'm surprised that they are letting them do anything for Halloween at all. I don't think I would say anything unless someone in his class decides to dress as a sports figure. I bet they are getting away with the Irwin character because he was a conservationist as well as an entertainer.

Tell Howard to dedicate his first big NASCAR win to Mr/Mrs School Administrator that thinks racing isn't a sport. :stir:

Are most of you going to have a fish extender? Trying to see if I can find one to buy, or figure out a way to make one if I need to (hope I can find one to buy!)

I've checked out Ebay and don't see anything right now - anyone have any ideas where I can go and buy one in a store?

Thanks Babybird!!!!

Monica - What is a fish extender? I hope that isnt a stupid question! I have no idea.

Oh, great. Now I have to make something else!

Outside your room there is a little metal fish on the wall that we used last time to tuck messages into for our DIS buddies.
Since we last cruised, some bright soul figured out that you may hang a light purse-like pocket on the fish to accomodate such notes and other things. Think of a zip lock bag with a string attached - not what people use but that covers the shape of what would work.

As the fish is metal and rather cute, I will probably do something fairly neutral so as not to detract from the subtleness of the decor.
Oh, wait, I am putting stuff all over the door so I guess it doesn't matter what kind of tacky I hang off my fish! :joker:

Well thats awful cute!!! I wonder what people think that dont know about the DIS? I hope I dont forget it on my list!!

There are pics of the fish extenders some where here on the DISboards - I just think it's a cute idea - something else to make my room stand out in a hallway of look-a-like doors :)

Haven't been feeling up to par all week - lost my voice on Wed and am squeeky still today. People at work haven't complained tho!

My parents come for a visit tomorrow (for a few days before they hed off to Spain)......doing a hot air balloon ride Thursday am - hopefully we'll get to fly close to WDW - that would make for some good pics.

Hope everyone has a good day.

I look forward to travel when we retire. I would love to go to spain. My dream trip is France. One day......I would want travel with the grandchildren. I only have one grandfather alive and some of my most memorable times were with our grandparents. I sometimes feel brokenhearted for my children because they have missed out on the relationships with grandparents as they only have my mother left. Divide her between 14 grandchildren that ranges in ages 20 to 2, and theres not alot of time and she still works. You can see they miss it like on grandparents day at school. Therefore I will carry my grandchildren as much as financiallyand physically possible.

I am going to have to find the fish extenders on the threads. I want mine to rock!!!!

Can you believe it's down to less than 7 weeks!!!! YEAH!!!

Grandparents are very important, and very dear---my sister is about to have a daughter (due in Feb), and my parents (especially Mom) are having issues as they live in Argentina and aren't around often. Mom will be here for when my neice arrives, and Dad will show up when she's a few months old.

I have GREAT memories of spending summers during my early teenage years with my grandmother in Michigan.

Monica - so sorry you haven't felt well lately.
Joe says that you should give your voice imparing virus to me - sort of a vacation before the vacation for him.

Monica - I hope you get to feeling better too!

BabyBird- Shame on Joe. Doesnt he know we have alot more words per day to use up? That comes from Jeff Foxworthy.

Everyone needs to stay in tip top condition health wise so noone is denied entry!! That would be terrible. The children go next week for their flu vaccine. William just goes to the shot doctor so its a drop in deal for him.

We got weather in the fifties and sixties all week! What is up with that. We went from burning up to freezing our tails off. Warming the vehicles up in the morning.

If anyone sees a thread on the fish extenders, let me know. I am off to gym with Christie and we have a land auction afterwards so I will check back in later. We got to get our post number up. I wander what 12-9-06 cruisers talk about. 40 something thousand post. We would be lucky to get a word in edgewise. I am happy about our small group, easier to meet everyone.

Joe and I got our flu shots this morning. I feel better already!

I looked at the fish extenders and have decided that our cruise is close enough to Christmas that I am going to use a stocking instead.

I printed out the paperdolls today and they are beyond cute. I will be adding them to the door decor for the cruise as well as the room decorations at AKL.
Thank you so much for the info on that site - if the rest of the gang hasn't visited it yet, you should!

Tomorrow we break 40 days in our countdown. I'm going to start packing when we hit 20. How about you?

I was thinking about the Christmas stocking too - thought of that today. Need to see what's out there that I can customize to scream "me" :thumbsup2

I can't fathom packing this early---will probably do it the weekend before the cruise. I will probably start putting things aside 2 weeks before, but actually packing...... :-)

Right now I'm counting down to a bday dinner at Ohana's next week - LOVE that place!!

Oh, I really like those 'fish extenders'!!! I am not that talented enough with a sewing maching to make one. I wonder if you buy one pre-made and then decorate it???

I will have to keep an eye out on ebay. I wonder if they have a different name than 'fish extenders'?

The dolls are cute. I am going to have to start the door decorations soon!! :cool1: Are you guys going to use the magnetic paper or just buy the magnetic tape?

I was told to look for "storage bag/shoe organizer" - I also just typed in "Disney organizer". I haven't seen one on there for sale at this time, but I'm going to go to a store that has tons of Disney stuff (after all, this IS Orlando) to see if they have anything---I'll let you know, and if they do I can always pick some up for anyone who wants one.

I did see that there were some stockings for sale on the DIsney Shopping web site that can be personalized---but no Tigger, so don't know if that will work for me.

I think I'm going to print out the ears that were posted somewhere here, that with the stateroom circle (with room nbr) makes a Mickey head. I am also going to make a door sign, but not sure what else (I've been on the Wonder 2x, but have never done anything for the door). Not sure how I will have those stay on the door yet - have to go to Joanne's or Michaels to see what they have.

I think I am going to use a combo of magnetic paper and tape. The things that I can print on the paper I will. Because I have to trim all of the clothes and hair for the paper dolls, I will probably put tape on the back of the body and go from there. I was thinking about laminating the whole thing together and then adding the tape on the back.

I was really surprised at how well the magnetic paper stuck to the door. I think you will be pleased with the results. Do lots of little things and then you can use what you like or rotate them.
I did an 8 1/2 x 11 sign for each day and then had several little things all over the door. It was cute and after a long day out and about it makes finding your cabin really easy!
