Alright, I'm not getting the whole MDE / magic band thing (and I admit I've only partially followed threads here & there on them but I just keep getting more confused).
We are going in January. We have AP's. I have entered our AP #'s on MDE and linked our dining ressies to the reservation. Does this mean at 60 days out we will be able to order magic bands and set up FP+ ? I was under the impression that the system is still in a testing phase and not everybody could use it yet. Is the testing over? Does this mean that I HAVE TO use online check-in at 60 days? Seems crazy to me to "check-in" so far out. But how will I know if we can use the magic bands or not? Do I have to wait for Disney to invite me to use them?
You do not need to complete on-line check-in in order to customize MagicBands. Yes the system is still in testing and it's not opening up at 60 days out. Currently, it seems as if they are opening new months about 40 days out from the 1st of the month. Officially, Disney is sending out the 'invites' around 28 days out. No one with December (or later) arrivals have been able to customize MagicBands.
I did not (and have not yet) received an invitation to participate. But I was able to customize MBs and make FP+ selections anyway - after they opened up the end of November.
Anyone who is checking in 12/1/2013 or later just needs to be patient until their dates are available. Right now, you have to be within 60 days of arrival AND your dates have to be made available for FP+. That may change after the testing is completed. They are still working on the system and adding features to it.
Carol, when is your trip, and how were you able to customize bands you didn't yet have?
