Dec 5, 2009 -- now traveling to Tortola

I would also like to add that I did not create the mickey surfer I found it online a very very long time ago so I have no idea who to give credit to. I only added the text to it.

I will be making my family a shirt for boarding day with the large logo on the back of the shirt and will only have the "mouse surfer" with our names underneath the picture very small on the front.

Thanks. As you can see, I've added to my signature :goodvibes.

Well, I guess the mommy's creation is the winner, if there are no other submissions. Or do we want a vote?

Hmm, 1 submission. I guess it's a landslide victory.

Hi all,

Was talking to my bride today and we were talking about renting bikes to ride St. Croix, seeing as there is not much else around there. I did an internet search and emailed a company that used to do it but they rent ATV's.

Below is his reply:

Barry,
Thank you for your inquiry. We are still in transition but we are no longer renting bicycles. You can contact Freedom City Cycles located one block from the pier at 340-277-2433 or 340-332-4054. They should be able to accommodate you. If you have any further questions please feel free to contact me.

Thank you,
Seth

So if anyone's interested in foregoing the extras that Disney would charge for either ATV or bike, here's a couple options.

It sounds interesting to tour St. Croix on Bikes but unfortunately I don't think they make bikes for 3 year olds.

What is everyone else planning to do for their excursions? We are debating between a tour ( Highlights, Scenic Island & West End) or a Beach Break (Carambola or Cane).

They guys will be golfing at Carambola that day, so it will be us girls and our 8 kids in total aging between 14 mths. to 10 yrs.

Sounds like you have your day planned! I'm not one to pay the high costs of excursions unless it were something I was really looking forward to. I like the idea of a bike ride there as we all ride together as a family here, but our 2 year old would have to go on a carrier on my bike, if available. If no carrier, we may leave him on the ship with my mom while the 4 of us go ride for a while. I doubt she'll be riding with us at 75 years.

In St. Thomas, we'll likely take a cab to the beach somewhere. I also have to stop at a hotel (I think Marriot is pretty close to the port) and grab their WIFI for a while. I think it would be cheaper than the WIFI aboard the ship. This way I'm not connected to work the whole time, but just checking in on important issues to plan my week for my return. Holiday Inn also has Internet, but it's across the bay from the port and a bit inconvenient to get to. I don't trust the Internet Cafe's after a very negative virus situation while away on other cruises.

Castaway Cay is reserved for Mommy/Daddy time in the adults only area. ;)
We'll step out for a little while to check on the kids in their various clubs, but I just want to 'veg' for a while, read a book, figure out a few Suduku's. (I have a full newspaper page of Soduku with the corners interconnected. I'm saving it for the cruise)

Also looking forward to meeting lots of people on this board, especially any other fellow Canadians who will be aboard. (We'll have a Canadian-Fest eh!)

My dh and I booked this cruise today! It will be me (Kirsty) my dh (Brandon) and dd 9 (Juliette) turning 10 on 12-30. This will be our 1st holiday cruise! Looking forward to a relaxing trip Disney style the only way we like to vacation! We will be celebrating my dds bday onboard!

Welcome Kristy and crew! My DD will be turning 9 this October, she will be
seeing her in the clubs.

I do like the surfing mickey, got my vote!

We may rent a car in St. Croix and just drive, stop whenever we see
something of interest. My mom and I want to go to Whim Plantation, kids
to a beach and DH to the Rum Factory. We can come and go when we
want.

Hi Kirsty!
My DD is 10. Perhaps they'll meet in the kid's club!

As far as St. Croix, we may be renting a car. We are definitely renting a car on St. Thomas so we can do things as we please. I need to check out St. Croix and see what interest us.

I am so ready for this vacation! It is much needed by both DH and I. DH has been working SO many hours and needs some R&R. Come o December!

A Big Welcome to the newcomers to the thread!
Our DS Erik (8) will be joining Juiette as well. It's going to be fantastic!

Just told my mom this week that we're covering her costs for the cruise. She has now officially warned us that our kids are going to be very, VERY spoiled during this cruise as she'll have her own credit card to charge her cruise expenses.

I have a feeling DW and myself will have a great cruise!

That is so sweet of you to cover the cost of your moms cruise :lovestruc.

The grandparents are spoiling our kids right now. We have decided to tell the kids the day we return home about the cruise. The grandparents decided to create gift baskets with disney theme stuff and leave it on the kitchen table for them to see when they walk into the house and open. Not to mention, the pillowcases that my mom is stitching for them to get sign.:love:

I WISH I COULD TAKE THEM.

You are right this is going to be a great cruise :yay::banana::yay:

hi!
I love the surfer mickey guy!
I am really looking forward to winter this year, mainly
because of our cruise and Christmas with our first
granddaughter! she's not cruising with us this time.
we're thinking in a couple years.

This is a special trip for us this year since the past few
years I was very ill, and now finally feeling better.
so I was thinking of maybe doing a limo or sedan to the
port from our hotel for a surprise for my husband.
Has anyone ever done a town car or limo to the port?

thanks!

Hi everyone and thanks for the warm welcome. My DD is very social so I will let her know she has a few kids her age to get to know onboard! She will be thrilled!!!

This cruise will be very special to us as I will have just ended chemotherapy and it will be a celebration of my dds 10th bday, we can not wait to just have some FUN! (so if you see a mom with no hair or in hats all the time come say hi it will be me!)

I have a ? for everyone re: hats in the restraunts. This is our 4th cruise and I would never normally wear a hat to dinner...but in this case going bald is not what I had in mind either. Any thoughts??? Is wearing a hat to formal dinner going to be rude?

Look forward to cruising with everyone!
Kirsty

That is not rude at all. Don't worry about that.
Just enjoy your family and your time on the ship.
For the pirate night, they even give you a pirate scarf to wear!

I think I will be putting the Mouse Surfer on a magnet and putting
it on our door. It is so cute!

This is Disney! As much as many observe etiquette and take of hats indoors, we're here to have fun! It's ok to be a pirate all week long with your bandana! (Or wear a princess tiara with wig!).

DW's sister has finished her round of chemo/radiation 1.5 months ago and is completely Cancer Free!!!!! Congratulations on winning your battle to date! I think 'hats on to you!'

Tower, heard there were some nasty storms with tornado(s) in your area a couple of days ago. Hoping you escaped damage. I grew up in tornado alley and know too well the damage that those things can do.

Thanks for your concern Carmie. One tornado struck a day camp about 2 hours north of here. Killed one 11 year old boy, so sad. We had some other twisters as well on Thursday, but mainly power outages etc.

We were unscathed here in Mississauga, though some had to deal with downed trees on their lawns. We sat on our front porch and watched all the lights and rain. Unplugged the computers and the TV's just in case. Even did a rain experiment and had 1 1/4 inches of rain within 45min.

Let's hope we don't get too much of a severe weather pattern when we go south. Though hurricane season should be over by then.
