Dec 4, 2011 Dream

We're staying at All-Star Music that Friday night and doing MVMCP. We'll bring lots of patience for dealing with kiddies.
Then we stay at the Radisson the night before the cruise. Earliest shuttle they had to the port was 11AM so we'll probably hop a cab to be there at 11AM. Especially since they have a history at the Radisson of not putting you on the shuttle you signed up for. Grrrr.

We'll be at the Radisson that night too. We may just take a cab to the port since we're not going to be in a real rush that morning. Since we're Platinum we don't have to worry about our boarding time. We'll check out of our room have a nice breakfast and head for the ship when we're done.

Hi everyone! Despite my post count only being 1, I am not new to the Disboards, it's just been a few years since I've been here and I don't remember my old name or password and can't get into the e-mail I would have registered them with anymore.

I'm not new to the boards here nor am I new to cruising, but I am new to Disney cruising! This is our first Disney cruise and I am so excited and pretty overwhelmed trying to figure out the differences between them and Carnival, who I have 7 cruises under my belt with.

My husband and I will be celebrating 6 years of marriage on this cruise as well as his return from a deployment. We're following it up with 4 days at Disney World before we have to head back home. We'll have our 3yo, Maddie, who loves Mickey and his friends, in tow.

I look forward to chatting with y'all before our trip!

welcome to the group!! There is no comparrison between disney and carnival. Disney is at a higher level. We have done celebrity and disney.we like both for different reasons. They basically bring the fine service , entertainment and decor of wdw on the ship.

Hi MaddiesMom! It's great you are joining us! This will be our first Disney cruise also, however we did go on them once when they were The Big Red Boat back in the day. This will be my 9th cruise total, 2nd for DH and 1st for DD. From what the DCL Veterans say, we are in for quite a treat!! Where are you from?

Also, I have started a group for our cruse on Facebook, if you are into that. If you would like to join, just send me a PM of your FB name and I can send you a FR so you can join the group! Also, will you be joining our FE group? Looking forward to getting to know you!

Thanks for the welcome guys :)

We live in MS - we moved here last year and I was thrilled that we live so much closer to Disney World now!

What is the FE? I keep seeing it referenced here, but I don't actually know what it means. Sorry, I am a total newbie :confused3

I'll send you the link to my FB page.

Oh I guess I can't send a message until I post more. Grrr wish I had my old profile info!

Welcome to the Group! This is my first Disney cruise as well. Should be a great time from what I hear. I'm sure your daughter will LOVE seeing Mickey and friends on board.

OK, here's a first draft of a potential logo, based on suggestions further up the thread.

My computer has been fighting me every step of the way on this. This is now my THIRD attempt to get this thing posted! The black border isn't a permanent feature of the design, it's just how it turned out when I resized it :headache: and I'm too tired to fix it right now!

Feel free to comment! If anyone wants to work on it, I have the original in psd format for photoshop, or in PNG format.

GREAT JOB BETH:cool1:

CAN YOU CHANGE THE GREEN MICKEY HEAD AND STACK TO MATCH THE SHIP?

GREAT JOB BETH:cool1:
Thank you!
CAN YOU CHANGE THE GREEN MICKEY HEAD AND STACK TO MATCH THE SHIP?
I'm actually trying to find a good picture of the actual stack from the ship. I took over 1000 pictures on my 4 day cruise back in Feb. Of course, not one of them is of the stack! If anybody has one they'd like to contribute, feel free. I can edit and do all the other stuff!
HOW DO WE GET IT TO PUT ON SHIRTS ETC. REMEMBER IM NOT A COMPUTOR WHIZZ:rotfl2:
All you need to do is save the image from here (or I can post a larger version on my website for anyone to download), then print it onto iron-on transfer paper which you can buy almost anywhere that sells computer, office or art supplies. I would offer to do it for you, but I'm starting to run into some time issues. Somehow, even though this vacation has been planned since February, it came up a lot faster than I expected it to! I have a huge number of projects which have to get done here at the office, a bunch of jewelry designs that I have to finish, and I have to figure out how to manage to get my holiday shopping finished and my house decorated by early November, because I have a business trip the week before Thanksgiving, and then I leave for vacation on Thanksgiving morning!

Just got off the Dream, 9/11. Went with a friend on the cruise and then a couple days at the Epcot and Animal Kingdom. She had never been on a cruise and had only been to the park when there was Magic Kingdom. Everything I told her about a Disney Cruise turned out to be the opposite on this trip.

There are always children on board, this is a Disney cruise. However, they spend most of their time in the kids clubs and there is the adult area. This time I think the entire 1100 children were in their rooms or on the veranda jumping up and down or running through the halls all the time screaming. Also, we had a late start leaving the port because a young girl slipped on the deck while the deck was being power washed and broke her leg so an ambulance had to take her off. On CC, 2 cast members collapsed from heat stroke and dehydration while running a cast member 10k run and had to be air lifted.

The cast members were amazing and made us feel special as always.

I can hardly wait until December when I will be with my family, we roll with the flow so there will not be any tense moments. I will meet with my daughter on Sunday we can start concentrating on FE's. This time, We have to think of two sets because of two rooms participating. This will be fun.

The FE gifts I got this time was full of imagination from handmade and sequined bookmarks to a Kodak one use digital cameras. (I hope these people work for Kodak). Both me and my friend are diabetics so I asked for sugar free or no candy. We did get a hugh bag of candy but only one bag so that was great. From everyone else we got peanuts or sugar free something and even tiny bottles of liquor, lots of great handmade gifts.

We did have fun time at Pink and Evolution. Did not make it to Skyline. There was a TV Trivia show and my friend won first prize. I went to the DVC get together and won a beach bag in a trivia quiz. The only thing is the trivia was on DCL and I did not know the answer, the emcee had to give me the answers so I could win a prize.

We will fly in and drive to the Residence Inn at the port the night before. We like getting to the ship early, that is why we do not stay on property and take Disney transportation. We also do not take Disney transportation back to the resort if more than two of us is cruising because of the cost. I can rent a car cheaper.

We will be staying at Wilderness Lodge for a couple of days after the cruise instead of our home resort. We are enjoy staying at difference DVC locations.

I will never, never, never take a three day cruise again unless it is connected with a 4 day. With a three day as soon as you get on, it is time to get off.

What a great job you did on the logo! Thank you for putting the time in to create that. You were looking for a logo or picture of the stack? If you do a search for Disney Cruise Logo on Google under "Images" there were lots to choose from there. You can also upload the image to cafepress.com and individuals can order their own t-shirt, etc. Here is a link to a bunch of Disney related pictures. There are lots of cruise logos. http://www.4shared.com/all-images/rOieU1EB/DCL_Logos.html

DVC Deernut and Karen 89 (and everyone else, of course)! Thanks for the suggestions for stack pictures. I guess I'm just overworked and underpaid this week! I checked through my hundreds of thousands of pictures (and the one that DVC Deernut sent) and think I may have something. Of course, I got home last night, sat down to watch Jeopardy, and Jim woke me up at bedtime. Didn't get much of anything at all done!

I'm going out with my siblings tonight. I've been out of our childhood home since 1969, and NEVER have both of my siblings come to visit at the same time. In fact, we rarely see each other since my brother lives in Florida and my sister lives a couple of hours from me. Should be an interesting evening, but I doubt I'll get any logo work done tonight!

We took the Dream on it's second official voyage on 1/30 to celebrate my birthday. To be honest, the reason that I went on this cruise was because my daughter would be walking on to the Dream in April as gold before me. I was one cruise off because they went on the Wonder as part of their honeymoon. We normally go Nov, Dec, or Jan.

The adult pool is perfect for me because I do not swim. It is small, if you are a swimmer. There is a wade up bar area that works for me because i can sit in the water and a deeper area that you can sit and lounge -I was told that it was 5 ft deep. There is always a live band of some type there. Last time it was a three piece band and this time there was a guiter player/singer. There is an overlook area and a bar called CURRENT right above the adult area that I like because I can hear the performance, lounge , and there is very few people there. I just went up with my knitting, found a shady spot, was offered ice water because I did not want a drink and I just relaxed. My friend said it was too hot so she went back to the cabin to take a nap. I like this area better than down by the pool because the glass they have surrounding the area makes it very hot with the sun . There is no breeze. Another area I found this time that I used was above Currents on the 13th floor. I thought this was concierge so my daughter and I did not go up there last time. I could still hear the performer but you would need to bring your drink up with you because I never saw a server while I was there. Don't think I am a big drinker, I am not. I like the sail away drink, had a glass of champagne in Pink (which would be a great place for a meetup one evening because it is quiet and we can hear ourselves talk), and a Konk Kooler while at the beach.

This is my daughter on our January cruise sitting by the adult pool. You can see the wade up bar section.

I was told by our server that most of the people onboard was Columbian's and they keep their children with them instead of in the kids clubs. I thought that their school was on holiday and I asked a young lady if it was and she said their school was in session but that they are told to come over to the U.S. the beginning of September because that is when the U.S. children will be back at school. That explained why hardly everyone I came in contact or heard, spoke English with a heavy spanish accent or they did not speak any english to each other. Even our table mates spoke only their language unless they wanted to ask us a question. The funny thing was I noticed the amount of children but was never bothered. It is just that I kept being reminded everyday about the noise, etc. My daughter and I are still trying to find pixie dust so we can stay in the kids club for most of the trip. Before the cruise goes out to sail, you can visit the teen club and children club. My daughter and I did this on our January cruise. If you are truly a Disney cruiser and our cruise is as full of children, you will not have a problem. That is why I am so excited about this cruise, I will be with my family and friends that are all things Disney.

CC was fantastic. You would never know that there had been a storm. I was happy to see that Serenity Bay had their own barbeque area and we did not have to go back over to either Cookies or Cookies II to eat. My daughter said that it was there in January but we had missed breakfast and ate at Cookies before we went to the adult side.

I sit with my feet in the water in a beach chair and waited until the gentleman came over for our drink orders. My friend did not like being in the sun and heat (there were plenty of umbrellas down the beach but none unoccupied at the entrance) so we took our drinks up to the bar area. I also was told then that she did not like barbeque. I knew what it was going to be like for our last night dinner at the park because I had booked us at Whispering Canyon at the Wilderness Lodge for dinner when we went back to the park.

Roadweaver:

We were on the Dream right after you (2/4/11), and we're looking forward to our second trip on her. We didn't have a problem with the adult pool either, but our sailing was only half full. It must be a little over 5' deep because I couldn't stand and keep my head above water enough to breathe. While I love swimming, Jim is one of those people who can't even float. He just sinks to the bottom, so he enjoyed just being able to stand in the water and enjoy it.

We enjoyed that area above Currents one night and it was very pleasant. We aren't drinkers either (except some wine now and then) but an evening meet-up in Pink could be a nice way to pass some time!

I was another one who sat on deck with my knitting. What a great way to enjoy a cruise (and, of course enjoy the knitting and a good book)! I'll have my crocheting with me this time, because I'll still be working on the snowflakes for my Christmas decorations!

I am happy you will be bringing your crochet. My daughter and I will be all over the ship knitting and laughing. I hope you can join us.

If there is anyone that wants to learn to knit, crochet or drop spindle. Let me know. I will bring some extra supplies and get you started. My daughter does the drop spindling so I am volunteering her. We had a lady that did needlepoint join us on the January cruise.

We had our IPad's with us and also watched some podcast while we knitted. We hope to be finishing up Christmas knitting while on board. My daughter will be entertaining her friends and will not get to sit around with me as much probably. I won't be getting off in Nassau, you will find me on board with my knitting, a cup of soda or water, my IPad or Kindle on that day and the day at sea.

I'd love to join you for knitting, crocheting, etc. I think it would be fun to find at least one person new to some of those crafts and teach him/her. What a souvenir to bring back from a trip--every time they knit/crochet, etc. they'll remember what a great time they had! We'll be getting off in Nassau, but only briefly. Maybe we can arrange to meet sometime that day and do needlework while my DH takes one of his many daily naps:rotfl:! I'd be interested in drop spindling. I'm fascinated by yarns and fibers of all sorts!

Tried to get the Palo Brunch as soon as I could, given "Gold" status. There were no openings (or for the high tea.) Guess we'll do the dash to queue up for a "slim-to-none" chance of getting on when we board.
