Dec 27/08 NYE Western Cruise - Really New Thread

Would you be open to the idea of using a tripod?

I use a Nikon D40. I can give you very detailed tips if you choose not to use a tripod. My settings are very customized as I favor the P mode...What model Nikon are you using?

For basic, basic suggestions for anyone doing night lights:

No Flash!
Use a Hi ISO setting, 800 - 1600 or even higher.
Line up your shot,
pull your elbows all the way in to your side,
take a breath, hold that breath
and click.

ETA: You can get a good long exposure by using a solid surface like a trash can top to set you camera or elbows on to help steady your hand.

If you are doing night portraits. Use the night setting, you'll need the flash, and have them hold still til the photo is done - you'll get people blurs if they move before the shutter finishes.

Aisling and Brenda, that's only the stuff I've put in PB!

I use an external Sea Disk for the thousands of originals I have in my puter.

I see the world in photographs and have been at it for twenty years.

I don't *know how* to put the darn thing down!
I just sold my D50 and got a D90, Love the new one. I have a wireless remote I use for the long exposures.

Brenda & Michelle:

I miss the sounds of your company :sad2:

Thanks for a great weekend. I'm so relaxed that I really don't care that I haven't packed :rotfl2:

Tomorrow I'll pack...

Hey Aisling:

FYI, I booked the turtle tour on GC.

Just to confirm...

We are maybe hanging out on Key West & Cozomel...if we still like each other on those days and if mom is up for going out, right???

We also have no plans for CC, I think we will just hang out on the family beach for a while and then maybe desert mom & kids and have a few drinks alone on Serenity Beach.

I'm going to check with Paul and see if he wants to move our brunch from Jan 1 and then we can try to crash the dinner gang at Palo's too. When are you eating at Palo's???? Do you want to have tea with mom, me and Paul? We have tea on 12/29 I think.

Thanks, Nan. I'm going to skip Palo this trip.

And yes indeedie to Key West. We'll explore together at a nice easy pace.

As for CC, I have the Wild Side booked for Jesse and Cory, and as for myself, I just plan on relaxing.

Here's my FE. I just bought 99 cents worth of fabric and hand sewed it into a bag. I put the tv remote in for perspective.

Here's my tree. Don't know why it came out weird like that with the lighting.

Hey Everyone..

I feel more caught up this week. This past weekend was a life saver in running errands. We got almost everything accomplished.

Kathy, I checked, and I have enough FE gifts to include you... YEAH!!!! I dont want anyone to be left out!!

Okk... so, I will have the rotation up here in two shakes of a lambs tail!

I just got these pics from Chad. He takes better pictures that I do, that's for sure!

These were taken in my dining room. I'll get him to take some in the other direction looking into the living room and alcove. It looks so purty at night with all the lights! So far, Brian hasn't bothered the tree, and I thought he would since it's real, and it has a sweetish scent, but he's been a good boy!

Hi Kelly!

Here's my tree. Don't know why it came out weird like that with the lighting.

By the way, that's not dust on my woodwork, I swear! After seeing that photo, I had to check, and it must be the bad lighting!:rotfl:

FE Rotation!!!!!

In order for everyone to get ready for dinner and unpacked the first night of the sailing, I have left that off the list so that all FE can be up in time for gifts. When a day is listed.. you can deliver ANYTIME during that day. No specific times.. :goodvibes

Marla - 7624
We Love the Mouse - 7503

Monday 12/29:

Thursday 1/1:

I have purposely left Friday w/no deliveries, as I am concerned w/the time constraints of CC and then people packing up their belongings before dinner. Soooo.. Hope everyone likes the rotation. I accomodated all those that put requests in.

On a side note, has anyone heard from Michele or that family? I was just unfamiliar w/that name, and just want to make sure that those 3 cabins get the rotation.

Anjelica, can you add this info to your website?? Thanks so much!!

WOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you, Kelly!:thumbsup2

oh.. so update on the prego shopping..

I found a nice dress for NYE.. its a black chiffony type number. Very nice.. and only $30. It was marked down. I also found a prego bathing suit for $30 (marked down from $80) and some cute clothes and shorts. All at a maternity outlet store over the weekend.. I feel so much more prepared for the cruise.

Have to order Brian's tux from DCL's cruise wear people. Has anyone else done this yet?

Ok, now I'm jealous!

Anjelica, A wireless remote and a tripod are the ultimate cures for shaky night shots ::yes::

Did you get the black logo to print ok Rus?

The ghost seemed to be admiring the tree.. so I would say its a loved one. No worries.

have you never heard that explanation when funky stuff happens in pictures?

Love that you have the nativity set up under the tree.. we cant do that.. the kitties love to play w/stuff.. This year due to the kitten (now like 9mths) we couldnt put any ornaments too low to the ground.. as she thinks EVERYTHING is a toy! :lovestruc

Itsherhair...notaghost

Most object in photos that look unnatural can still be explained. Orbs are light reflections, her streak is her hair falling in front of the lens (its too close for the camera to focus on it, hence the fuzzy look.) I've even had my own eyeball show up in a photo once. In a SLR camera there is a mirror that moves up and down in front of the "film," apparantly, my mirror was being slow and caught the reflection of my eye from the inside while taking the photo outside.

Our doggies are being good with the tree. John put ours up on Friday. Penny likes to lay on the tree skirt, but that's about it. Kayda gets nowhere near it, but almost attacked my tv last night during the dog show. The cat is too old to care and rarely comes in the living room.

Here's my tree. Don't know why it came out weird like that with the lighting.
tree08.jpg

It's an underexposure due to the lighting coming in from the kitchen.

Do you think these could be "orbs", spirit energies? Many pics I have of Brian have those white ball things in them. I'm getting creeped out now.

Orbs are light reflections,

Your camera lens has lots of angles built into the glass.

The light can come in from the side and refract off the lens.

It can also be dust or spots on the glass.

(except dust spots tend to be in the same spot on every pic)

Like the hair, it's too close for the camera to focus on it.

Hi Kelley - Sorry I have not posted in a while - have been trying to read and keep up with the thread though!! As with everyone else, we are busy with Christmas - trying to see eveyone before we go... and of course packing!!

We are leaving this Thursday to head to WDW before the cruise so we have to have things done extra early this year!!:santa:

Just ordered the Tux's this past weekend for DH and DS :yay:

Now I am trying to figure out the easiest way to get our FE gifts down there - maybe carrying them on plane - I am afraid to have them get lost in the baggage:eek:

The FE rotation you have set up for me and my mom & sister is fine - thanks for taking the time to coordinate everything!!:thumbsup2

See everyone soon!!:yay:

Michele
