Dec 27/08 NYE Western Cruise - Really New Thread

For those not on Facebook, ahem Aisling and Marla ;)

Penny is recuperating from her surgery. She has got alot of stitches but seems to be recuperating well. Our foster dog attacked her and now lives confined to the kitchen/dining room. John is talking about building Kayda a kennel and run outside. I am hoping for a new home. I have made it very clear to him that they are never to be put together again :(

Sorry for being a bearer of bad news - I just wanted to keep my friends involved in my world and in my mind that means sharing the good and the bad~

Aisling, check tvtix.com

Not only can we get show tickets, but Jesse could go there for acting gigs if he is still interested in that kind of work :)

That's a great site for tickets. As for Jesse, he has an agent that gets him the modeling/acting jobs. The latest is a photoshoot for the Dope clothing line. But he's losing interest. He does it just for the money, so his heart isn't in it.

Holy cow about little Penny! What the heck made that happen? I'm glad she's going to be ok. Scary! Remind me not to pet Kayda next time I visit!:scared1: I'll blow her a kiss from across the room!

My thinking is Kayda wanted Penny's cookies and wouldn't take no for an answer :worried:

The *only* good thing was I was right there to pull Kayda off. Kayda herniated Penny's bowels the operation was to fix that.

It is a shame Jesse is losing interest. Does he have any other aspirations? He's a very artistic soul, I would like to see him in something creative.

He wants to major in Film Production/Script Writing. His dream was to intern for the Conan O'Bria(e)n Show, but the show is folding. Now he's putting together a script portfolio for the Venture Brothers, his new idols. They do some zany shows on the Adult Swim portion of Cartoon Network. Funny how my kids are as different as night and day. But it sure makes life, uh, interesting at home!:rotfl:

Oh look! I got us on the next page with that one!

I think it's cool how kids can be so different.

My two are more alike than they care to admit sometimes...

my sister is more intellectual like Chad and I am the artistic one like Jesse.

I worked my last swim meet for the season - Kara is working at least 3 shifts this weekend - she loves announcing so that is what she will be doing

Did get to chat with her year around coach this morning - he said he would put in a good word with pool for her to lifeguard/teach swimming this summer - plus if she doesn't swim for any college this fall she can swim in his masters group - practice and compete - plus he can use her to help coach the little ones - he did say he would do that if she at least went to comm college and took some courses - she really respects this man - just might be what she needs for some positive reforcment

To lifeguard at our home pool - they have to take a pre class to prove that they can swim, so she is signed up for that next month, plus she is registered for SAT's, lifeguard class starts in April, then driving lessons come May, graduation June - crossing toes.

April 9-13
How far are you, Brenda and Debbie from San Francisco Airport?
I'd be renting a car.
And if I stay at a hotel, where's a good central point between you girls?
WHAT, you don't want to visit Chel and I?:confused3

I have to talk to the kids about the Meet. We all had such a good time last time.

Question for those with dogs: how did you train them to "go" outside?

Brian is paper trained in the house, but now that he pees a flood, it's time to teach him to potty outside. He's 6 months old, and is being neutered on Friday.
I have nice parquet hardwood floors, and the peepee leaks off the wee wee pads, and I'm afraid my floors will be ruined. We have a very small backyard area where he can go but it's not enclosed so I walk him around there on the leash. He'll pee, but won't poop. As soon as we get in the house, I see him sniffing around, doing his gotta poop dance, and bang right on the floor before I can get him outside. I was told by the trainer to wait 30 minutes after he eats, then walk him around the block as many times as it takes for him to release. I keep plastic bags in my pocket all ready to pick up the poop, but he won't go!

He can hold his peepee from 11 pm to 7 pm when we get up, as he sleeps in my bed and never peepeed there.

Any advice?

I'm suprised that you have not allready started training him. Like as soon as you got him:scared1: It would seem to me that you have spent the time with him so far telling him that he was supposed to go on the pads, and in the house. I guess you keep doing what you are doing, take him out and praise him when he goes. I've always trained our dogs to go in the backyard, but our yard(s) have always been fenced so I'd just kick them outside for a while and then they'd come back in. Sorry not much help. good luck.

Work the paper towards the back door...make the area covered by paper smaller as you go.
Take as long as he needs to go outside. Keep him out there til he does both.

If he's on a schedule you should be able to tell when he needs to go. I take mine out as soon as they get up (they usually only pee then.) Feed him, then take him back out about 20 mins after he eats (he should need to poop by then.) Stay outside til he goes. Praise him and have a treat ready to go with the praise. If he associates going outside with happiness he'll be more apt to go where you want him to.

When training, you should take them out more often then necessary.
Eventually you will figure out his signals and pattern and will know when he needs to go.

~HTH~

Kinda like training a kid to go pottie on a pottie - sooner or later they get it hopefully

He had bad kennel cough from two months old to four months, and was then behind on his shots, so we were told not to take him out to walk so that he wouldn't pick up any diseases. Last month he was finally complete with his shots, so it was just my own negligence to wait the extra month.

Tig, you sound like a dog trainer. Thanks for the great advice. It was helpful for you to tell me that your dogs usually only pee first thing in the morning, because that's how Brian is, and I thought it was odd, but now I see it's not. Most of my friends with dogs live in big apartment buildings and they only train their dogs to go on paper inside for their convenience, so they were no help to me. My other friends who do take their dogs out started doing the outside training way earlier than me, so they were no help either as their dogs didn't have to be re-trained as mine does.

Other than that, Brian is doing great. I stopped taking him to the dog park because it was always filled with bigger dogs that would knock him over all the time and he was really afraid. He was great with the other puppies in his class, though.

Marla, you got it right, it's bringing back memories of potty training my kids!

Karen, I saw on the news that Citi's stock has dropped 90%!:scared1: I've never been worried about the economy before, but this is scary. Obama is doing his "stimulus plan" which puts $65 more in the average paycheck, but down the line it's going to come out of an increase in our taxes. Not good.
