We have made two trips to Fort Wilderness in the past 3 months. In December (5-11) 2014 we made our annual early December anniversary celebration trip (Site 1419). We have been making this special trip since 2006 to celebrate our anniversary and it is a special way to also enjoy the spirit of the holiday season. This December’s trip was also special for us as it was our return to Fort Wilderness. We were between RVs in 2013, so had returned to a Disney resort.
We just returned from another FW trip this week. We were there from February 6th thru 12th (Site 909). This was our first February trip to FW and other than one rainy day we had a great time. The motivation for this trip, since it was a little close to our December trip, was to meet some friends we knew where going to be at FW and the realization that my pending (March 4 and 11) knee replacement surgeries would put a damper on travel for a while. It is always great to come to FW, no matter what the motivation.
While we have made many trips to Disney over the years, our trips to Fort Wilderness just started in 2011 when we purchased our first RV. So as many on this board seemed to have done, progressed from camping in tents to pop-ups, to travel trailers/5th Wheels and beyond, we started too late in our lives to start at the beginning (tent camping), instead we started out with a rather roomy Travel Trailer, then a 5th Wheel and then our current 2006 MH. So I do not consider myself a ‘camper’, I am just a traveler, an old-timer (I guess that is relative, but Disney keeps me young at heart), who enjoys seeing this country in a way that I can sleep in my own bed at night and have my own toilet and shower. I am just not a heavy poster here, but do spend a far amount of time reading. But I do enjoy every trip we make to Disney and especially our new home resort, Fort Wilderness. Even in my short time traveling in an RV and staying in campgrounds and Fort Wilderness, I have found the people I have met along the road have been some of the nicest and friendliest people around. I think TheRustyScupper’s note in a recent post I saw was very accurate.
“NOTE: The one BIGGIE about The Fort, is that we are more friendly than ANY other
resort. The guests, like at any campground, tend to talk to one another. The kids even
make Friends for the next vacation! Try that at a WDW resort or even DVC.”
It is not the campground, but the people who stay in them that make the difference.
Even on the Disboard I see a huge difference between the discussions and attitudes (people) in the Camping forum compared to the other forums on the Board.
Since my DW has already typed up a Trip Report for our blog and I have linked the many trip photos we took during our last two FortWilderness trips, it was easier for me to ‘cheat’ a little and offer our Trip Reports via a link to our modified blog.
