We have made two trips to Fort Wilderness in the past 3 months. In December (5-11) 2014 we made our annual early December anniversary celebration trip (Site 1419). We have been making this special trip since 2006 to celebrate our anniversary and it is a special way to also enjoy the spirit of the holiday season. This December’s trip was also special for us as it was our return to Fort Wilderness. We were between RVs in 2013, so had returned to a Disney resort.

We just returned from another FW trip this week. We were there from February 6th thru 12th (Site 909). This was our first February trip to FW and other than one rainy day we had a great time. The motivation for this trip, since it was a little close to our December trip, was to meet some friends we knew where going to be at FW and the realization that my pending (March 4 and 11) knee replacement surgeries would put a damper on travel for a while. It is always great to come to FW, no matter what the motivation.

While we have made many trips to Disney over the years, our trips to Fort Wilderness just started in 2011 when we purchased our first RV. So as many on this board seemed to have done, progressed from camping in tents to pop-ups, to travel trailers/5th Wheels and beyond, we started too late in our lives to start at the beginning (tent camping), instead we started out with a rather roomy Travel Trailer, then a 5th Wheel and then our current 2006 MH. So I do not consider myself a ‘camper’, I am just a traveler, an old-timer (I guess that is relative, but Disney keeps me young at heart), who enjoys seeing this country in a way that I can sleep in my own bed at night and have my own toilet and shower. I am just not a heavy poster here, but do spend a far amount of time reading. But I do enjoy every trip we make to Disney and especially our new home resort, Fort Wilderness. Even in my short time traveling in an RV and staying in campgrounds and Fort Wilderness, I have found the people I have met along the road have been some of the nicest and friendliest people around. I think TheRustyScupper’s note in a recent post I saw was very accurate.

NOTE: The one BIGGIE about The Fort, is that we are more friendly than ANY other
resort. The guests, like at any campground, tend to talk to one another. The kids even
make Friends for the next vacation! Try that at a WDW resort or even DVC
.”

It is not the campground, but the people who stay in them that make the difference.

Even on the Disboard I see a huge difference between the discussions and attitudes (people) in the Camping forum compared to the other forums on the Board.

Since my DW has already typed up a Trip Report for our blog and I have linked the many trip photos we took during our last two FortWilderness trips, it was easier for me to ‘cheat’ a little and offer our Trip Reports via a link to our modified blog.

Our Trip Reports can be found here: http://www.rvtravelblog.org/disney/

Enjoy the reports …..

Nice report. I love the camping boards. I have been a member of the Dis for a while but not till i got into camping this year have i done so much posting. I really do love the camping boards. We skipped all the camping steps and went straight to a MH. We have really enjoyed it though we have really only taken it to Ft Wilderness.

Just want to say good luck with the knee surgeries and your name caught me by surprise. My parents are Russ and Arlene. Not very common and to be coupled up, i thought it was cute.

Interesting! As you said not real common names let alone to be paired up.

What a great TR! How fun to have had two back to back trips. I would love to see Disney at Xmas and I bet you sure left the processional with some Xmas spirit!!!
Agree that Feb is a wonderful time to visit with good weather. Lots of blue skies in those pics ;)

Side note - I really like the light blue background on your blog. Makes for nice easy reading on the eyes.

Thanks for sharing!

Great trip report, thank you! I have been to WDW several times at Christmas, but my real dream is to camp at FW in December.

We are midway in our camping progression - started with tents, went to a pop-up, then a pop-up with ac and a slide out, now we are on a hybrid. We haven't camped in the hybrid yet; we'll see if that's enough for us.

Great trip report, caused me to get reservations at the Japanese hibachi. Looking forward to posting for our TR.

We were there the same time, Dec 1-16, site 702. Great time, weather other than that one day was good. You are right about the CP, I joked that we had to walk through 3 countries to see a show. Glad you have a good time, wish we were closer and could go more often...maybe someday....

We have always enjoyed our early December trips. The weather is usually good, crowds not too bad and all the Disney decorations certainly get you in the Holiday spirit. Other months we have gone to Disney over the years have been March, April, September and February (our most recent trip). All great times to visit.

I understand the distance thing, we were originally from Pennsylvania so our trips to Disney were much less frequent because of the distance. My 'maybe someday' came in 2006 when we moved to Florida and going to Disney got much easier and our trips were more frequent.
