...arriving at the Poly was like a dream!
We adore the Poly but it is WAY pricey!! We want to celebrate our anniversary there one year, but for now - we just eat there and soak it all in! We were all really excited about 'Ohana because it is one of our favorites and I scored an ADR less than 24hrs in advance
So we arrive at the Poly and head on over to 'Ohana! Immediately I see a killer crowded waiting area and bar and once I take a glimpse at the check in line, I know we have no chance of getting in early. Keep in mind now, I shouldn't be expecting much since it is only 6:15 and we have a 9:55 ADR
We just couldn't last any longer with two cranky, hungry kids, a cranky hungry hubby, soaking wet from the rain, and ready for some yummy bread pudding and skewers! The reason we had such a late ADR is that I booked 'Ohana 24 hours before our arrival and it was the only time during our entire trip that 'Ohana had an opening - it was fate - I had to take it no matter how late! So we moseyed on to the check-in line and filed in. There were at least 20 people waiting in the "no reservation" line and about 5 in the ADR line. The line moved quickly and we explained the situation to the CM. She said she was so sorry but they were actually overbooked that night and she didn't see how we could be seated before 9:55. She said the last seating before ours was at 7:30 - 1 hour and 15 minutes from now and that it would be the last possibility of getting in early, but there were 16 people ahead of us waiting for an early slot. We strongly considered just canceling and getting pizza, but the fire roasted skewers were calling me and I made DH get a pager and said we'd wait.
So the hubster headed to the bathroom and I started walking around the Poly soaking it all in. We walked a bit - walked outside a bit - changed the kiddos diapers and freshened them up, and rested on the bench. We went in the giftshop and Ava played with a few toys, tried on a tiara, and fell in love with a stuffed Mickey. The hubby decided to head to the bar and get something to drink while I let the kids peruse the giftshop. Not a minute after he left, he was back again with a huge grin and held up our pager which was blinking red! I gathered up the kiddos and we headed off to our feast!
The CM greeted us and wished us a Happy Anniversary and told Ava Happy Birthday and said that even though we had a super late reservation, she thought we could use a little pixie dust and some yummy food right now! This was me at that point
We headed off to our table and already I was excited because we had a great, unobstructed view of the castle from where we were sitting! It's hard to see it in the pictures, but in person we could see it clears as day and it was awesome! Ava loved being able to see Cinderella's castle from the restaurant and constantly asked what Cinderella was doing all through dinner.
'Ohana welcome bread was served and it was delish as always! Ava nearly ate an entire loaf by herself and Levi devoured piece after piece also!
Before the first course came around the hula games started! The hula master was calling for volunteers to learn the hula and of course Ava takes any chance she can get to dance! We left daddy to the welcome bread and headed off to learn the hula! Ava had a blast and STILL asks me to help her hula at home by saying "pineapple, coconut, mango, papaya" like they do at 'Ohana!
We arrived back to the table and out came the salad which I adore, DH thinks is ok, Levi tossed on the floor (don't worry, mama picked it up!), and Ava poked it with daddy's paper umbrella and asked why I wanted her to eat leaves...
Next up with the chicken wings & deep fried pork potstickers. I have a secret love affair with the pork potstickers and devoured way too many
I don't eat any form of meat on a bone (only boneless - odd, I know), so I didn't partake of the chicken wings. The hubs ate quite a few though and loved the flavors! Levi enjoyed teething on the chicken bones and devoured 3 potstickers! He loved dipping them in the special sauces - he's a HUGE dipper! Ava didn't have any of the above. She's my picky girl!
Can you tell Levi is my big eater? He gets super excited when the food starts arriving!
After the appetizer course came the super yummy noodles and broccoli. I was hoping the broccoli would be good because I was craving veggies! Oftentimes at 'Ohana - any everywhere! - broccoli that is steamed/sauteed isn't cooked and is still crunchy and I don't care for it that way. Thankfully this was a success!! The broccoli was perfectly tender! I love dipping it in the sweet/sour sauce - to die for! Also had a healthy portion of the noodles and they were delish as always! Hubs had both and enjoyed them. Levi and Ava both had a nice size portion of the noodles, but didn't care for the veggie - which is typical of these two.
A quick picture - and of course both kiddos are stuffing their faces!
Ava was amazed by the H-U-G-E skewers!
Skewers of meat were served. Pork, steak, chicken, and shrimp. Hubs had TONS of shrimp and said they were to die for! I don't eat shrimp, so I can't vouch for that. I had lots of the chicken and it was tender, juicy and wonderful! The pork was great too! Unfortunately the steak was terrible! I'm not sure what happened because both other times we've dined at 'Ohana the steak has been excellent! It was pure fat - hardly no meat. We even requested another portion and it was the same. We still had plenty, but we normally love that steak!
After the main course came dessert! A huge bowl full of pineapple coconut bread pudding arrived with ice cream and a generous serving of banana's foster sauce - pure heaven
Levi could have eaten the entire bowl by himself I believe, but Ava didn't care for it. The hubs and I adored it as always and were happy to eat Ava's portion!
Immediately after the bread pudding came a celebration cupcake for the hubster & me for our anniversary
Followed by a celebration cupcake for Ava with a birthday candle! She was excited! "For me? For my birthday? From MICKEY MOUSE???".
Nothing better than dipping a special birthday cupcake from Mickey Mouse in a big bowl of vanilla ice cream at nearly 10pm
Just as we were wrapping up I heard the familiar tune - the tune that brings tears to my eyes each and every time. The Wishes theme song. Another little bit of pixie dust
We had a clear view of Wishes from our table - such a special way to end the night!
We were still very impressed with 'Ohana! I adore the atmosphere and the food is always top notch (apart from the steak experience this time). One negative is that we felt really rushed this time
We hardly got one platter of food before they were bringing something else. Perhaps it was just because they were so busy. Next time if we are rushed we'll just ask for more time with the current dish I suppose. Overall - an A+ meal and we will certainly be back next trip! 'Ohana is the first reservation we always make!
We headed back to the monorail, zipped over to the Magic Kingdom and boarded a bus "home" to Pop Century! After a long dive to Florida and a long first day, the kiddos were wiped and fell asleep on the bus. We carried them to the room, slipped off shoes and pants, changed diapers, and snuggled them in bed without them ever waking! Now *THAT* is some sound sleeping! I was a little worried about noise levels as we were poolside and even though it was in the 50's there were at least 15 people in the pool! Thankfully they were very respectful and apart from the occasional yell, we never even knew they were there!
* Up next: Our first park day! Magic Kingdom!
