We are going Dec 1-9th. We already have reservations at WL but thought perhaps we'd like to save a little money and downgrade. Is it worth it? We would have dining plan at any resort we end up at.

Here's my question....IS it worth the savings to downgrade to either the Coronado Springs (POFQ/POR is booked I wish I could get in!) or way down to POP? The rough total to the WL is $4050....Coronado is $2800...and POP is $2350. Is WL really worth the extra $1700??? is POP so bad it is $1700 less??? should we just go moderate?

We have stayed at the CBR and WLV before. We did not like the hike at CBR and we loved the WLV.

We are traveling with DD 8 and DS who will be 23 mo. old. Naps may be needed unless DS can recharge in a stroller (doubtful).

any advice?

Thanks everyone! I love the Disboards and have gotten so much information from all you smart people!

Thanks!
Becky

It depends what you are looking for in a hotel. The WL will have queen sized beds, interior hallways, several sit down restaurants, and room service. If these things are important to you, then choose the WL. The other hotels will have double beds, outside hallways, etc. Good luck with your choice! We love the WL and are staying there in November.

I say if it will make your vacation more comfortable to have extra $$, I would downgrade. I am struggling with similar right now. We are staying at the POP, and as a single mom with one child that is an expensive venture for us. I am waiting for codes to come out and I could upgrade to a mod, but thinking having the extra $ could make for more spending money in the parks. I think I am going to just stay at the Pop and have extra cash!
If money was not an issue, we would be at the GF! :)

So all I will say is that if you are visually oriented, then you will miss the atmosphere of the WL at this time of year. It really depends on what you want to experience on your trip. If you want to experience a "Country" feeling of Christmas then do not change a thing, because the decortions at the WL can have you imagining snow falling outside while you sit by the cozy fireplace sipping hot chocolate. If you are wanting to save funds for other experiences and theming is not a consideration then go with your other choice. To us the WL is the most decorated resort for the Christmas season. So it ultimately depends on what you WANT to experience. Staying inside WDW is all about the MAGICAL experience to us, so you will ulyimately have to decide what you want to experience on your vacation. In our opinion you have the best already reserved for that time of year.

WL during the Holidays......aaaaaahhhh...how beautiful. If you have the money to spend, it is worth it ! It is beautiful ! It is very convenient to hop over to Magic Kingdom. I do not think that they have queen beds though, just doubles. I have also stayed at CSR and Pop. If money is a major concern (and $1700 could get you more than a few nice meals and presents) then change to CSR ! CSR casitas section is gorgeous ! Can't go wrong there.

Check out my CSR website below for pics and info.

Here are some x-mas pics from CSR.

THANK YOU!!!!! I get the best information from you DIS'ers! It was like christmas morning to check my emails and see all the resort tips and PHOTOS!!!! It's so hard to choose...but with all your help it will be a little easier!

Thanks again,
Becky

Those CSR pictures are great! I think I would pick CSR based on those pictures. It is probably the most "deluxe" of the mod resorts. Pop might be too much of a downgrade for you. Plus, the value resorts always feel crowded compared to the mods and deluxes.

Have a great trip!

Always LOVED the WL Christmas decorations...really beautiful...until the day I noticed the big FISH on the Lobby tree!!! Thise fish are all over that tree and the things stand out like sore thumbs for me now!!! Still a very pretty lobby, but that tree will never hold the same awe. LOL

When I first saw the CSR Christmas phogto's on Buzz's site it was pretty impressive - definitely the most decorated of the mods and very, very pretty.

Was surprised when we stayed at POP for MF one December - the decorations are great - of course, only around the lobby and shop, oh and entrance, but something old fashioned and kind of homey about POP decorations.

I've never stayed in a value resort yet but have enjoyed both moderate and deluxe and for me, it's more about the theme than the "moderate" or "deluxe". For example, I love the theme at POR and am happier staying there (moderate) than at the CR (deluxe) where the theme doesn't spark anything for me. My boyfriend loves CBR (moderate) and would choose that over the Boardwalk (deluxe) because he loves the tropical theme. I know people love the Poly but the theme doesn't appeal to me if my choice was Poly or a moderate, I would probably go moderate.

Try thinking more about the theming and what appeals to you in terms of that experience and see if that helps you with your decision.

Thank you all so much! We have a winner........CSR! I think the location to MGM, AK, and EPCOT were the tipping point for us. Thank you Buzz for that info! We also like the idea of saving some money. I'll keep our ADR for the Whispering Canyon Cafe and get our WL fix that way. Oh! and this way I get to decorate our window for christmas...Yeah! Now, If only I can get a room close to the main building and bus stop everything will be perfect.

Thanks again everyone! DIS'ers are THE BEST!!!!!
Becky and very happy family

I think you made the right decision. I think you are saving a lot of money staying at CSR and honestly, I think it is just as good as WL. POP is definitely on the lower end as it should be the price difference isn't so great so staying at the Mod is worth it for you. Have a great time!!!

Just wanted to say we will be in Disney the same time as you, Dec 1-9! We are staying at AKL Dec 1-5 then switching to CSR Dec 5-9! We are so excited. We just might see you there! :thumbsup2

I believe Pop Warner will be at Disney the week you are going, which is why we opted to go the following week. For that reason, I would be hesitant to switch to a moderate from a deluxe.

POP Warner does not stay at CSR. They use the Port Orleans resorts and AS resorts.

POP Warner was also at POP - filled the 50's sections, but not a problem. Although think any guest is not terribly sad when a hundred teens check out! ;)
