Debt Dumpers 2024

Snow ball is what I was taught by Dr. Ramsey. I just didn't know if the higher APR and yearly fee would've affected what he had said. So that's why I asked.
In this case it will not make much of a difference with the higher APR. Snowball method works.

My DVC sale is officially closed and the title company paid the outstanding balance on my loan directly to the lender. $10,550.61 erased from my debt total. So basically wiped out $20k in debt this year - pretty cool.

Remaining short-term consumer debt is:
- Apple CC ~ $3300
- Quicksilver CC $1000

I'm not going to bother posting medical debt because that's not my fault (can't control autoimmune diseases, just swat at it like a lion tamer, yelling 'back! back') and the healthcare system in the U.S. is so twisted. They'll get paid when they get paid.

Overall, feeling like I'm ending 2024 at an upswing. I'm working the holiday coverage for my dept and will be getting paid twice for the 4 days between Christmas and New Years.

I hope you all have a safe and happy New Year! I'll post one more update tomorrow since it's pay day and then I'll see you all in the 2025 thread. :hippie:

End of 2024 Update

Financial:
1. Pay off card #1 (starting balance $11,600) Paid Off!
2. Pay off card #2 (starting balance $6,500) Paid Off!
3. Grow emergency fund to $15,000 (currently at $7,500) Paused, this goal will carry into next year and will likely be the main priority in 2025, the goal amount will be bumped up to reflect that when we get there.
4. Pay off Affirm (balance $1400) Paid Off!
5. Pay off card #3 (starting balance $11,000) - 12,200 -- yep, this one went up, that's real life for ya. Not dwelling on it, just moving on. We know why it went up from where it was (we "paid off" our 10 year anniversary trip with the card and have a plan in place to pay it off, it is zero interest) it wasn't just mindless spending.

Personal:
1. 30 minute workout at least 5 days/week
Done, even with the holidays! I actually ran on Christmas, which is a first for me but the timing worked out well. I am SO not ready for my 10k in January, but I am in a much better place fitness-wise than I was in both February and April of this year and I finished those 10ks. So I keep telling myself that I need to at least start and if I get swept I did something more than a lot of people do and should be proud of myself for showing up to the start line.

2. Read 100 books
My total for this year is 485 books! According to my goodreads year in review that is 139,484 pages read (that number can be a little off because goodreads page counts aren't always completely accurate but it's close enough).

2024 was a wild year in so many ways but I am ready for the fresh start the new year brings. I will see you all on the 2025 thread! Hoping to get my 2025 goals posted in there today or tomorrow.

Every time I've been to the US lately I've noticed that basics seem to have been hit by inflation so much harder than in Canada, but our prices were higher to start with. It's awful sticker shock, and (like us) I'm sure your salary hasn't gone up in the same way as costs.

we visited Canada back in about 2017 and I could NOT believe the price difference for day to day products. I will never forget being in a larger grocery store and seeing a loooooooooooooong line at the deli and asking an employee what was going on. I was told they were having a 'great sale' on rotissery chicken. I glanced at the signage when I went by and was shocked to see that the 'great' price was a good 30% higher than our regular u.s. base price (I joked with dh that we needed to start an illegal rotissery chicken smuggling bsns. from the u.s. costco nearest the boarder).

you do have one item that despite any price increases I would kill to have access to-mitchell's dry soup mixes. a friend introduced us to these and we were hooked such that whenever they went to visit family we gave them a shopping list to stock us up!

Haha! Sadly, that's really not that surprising. Dairy and fuel prices are also regulated here in a way where many visitors are shocked by the prices.

The Mitchell's mixes are great! I usually have at least a couple varieties on hand, especially in the winter. They've started online ordering now, but I believe they only ship to Canada. Maybe if enough people contact them and badger them they'll reconsider ;)

their 'thanksgiving' soup is unlike anything i've ever had-awsome!
