Debt Dumpers 2021

I need to do my February check in but I need to organize my thoughts first 😂

Does anyone know of a Costco promo code for renewing membership? Mine expired in Nov and I thought that after this long they'd send me some incentive to renew. I went to do it tonight but then I thought I'd ask here first. I know there is coupon board I can check there too. TIA

They usually don’t do discounts or incentives. Sam’s club is usually on Groupon but I’ve never heard of Costco incentives.

We've gotten an offer from them if we set up auto renew, I think it's a gc, but my mom doesn't want to auto renew for some reason. We split it but it's under her name and she pays so I can't argue even if it is free money. But I've never seen anything outside of that.

I’ve never seen that offer but I have the citi credit card so it renewals automatically on my renewal date.

When I was at Costco last week they were offering gifts when you signed up for auto renewal and the lady mentioned to me that starting next year everyone will have to use auto renew. Not sure how true of a statement that is, but thought I'd give you a heads up. 😊

I ran the numbers for our federal taxes. We owe $800. :( No point in paying them early. They'll get it on April 15.

You may want to rethink that if your 2019 and 2020 income is different in a way that may get you more stimulus money based on 2020 numbers. Otherwise, you are ok to hold off on filing.

Just wanted to make sure everyone is aware the next stimulus will be paid out before the tax filing deadline so if 2020 numbers would work in your favor, file a.s.a.p.

Interesting. I think she just wants the option to not renew but since our eye dr is inside and we use their optical dept it makes sense just for my contacts because they are cheaper. But we also get other stuff so I don't get it. Thanks for the info, I do trust what they say more than a Disney cm.

I have heard, but don't hold me to this, that you can go in to the optical department for an EXAM without a membership. You will need one to buy glasses or contacts, though.

We also buy our glasses there and that alone more than pays for our membership.

Thanks for the tip but dh’s income was his highest ever in 2020. Not complaining but I will wait to file.

You can, he's leases the space from Costco and I can use more than just visa to pay him. But my contacts are still cheaper and it all works out in the end. We split the membership cost but I'd pay it myself if I had to. It's Mom logic, she'll be 73 next Tues I pick and choose my battles 😁

March 2nd Update:

So updates below. I am so, so excited! A lot of this is tax return but any progress is progress, right? Also CC Debt free. I almost cried.
  • Pay off all credit card debt (starting amount $7,250, currently $3,800, 0% APR)
Paid off in full. Super proud of this one as this time last year I had over 13,500 in debt with some high interest rates and now CC debt free!

  • Pay off small parent plus loan (starting amount $2,500, previously $2,350, currently $1,050)
Chipping away at this. I really could pay it off now by moving money from savings but with 0% interest until September thought I would wait to pay more until word about the stimulus.

  • Increase emergency fund by $2,000
Done and over paid by 1K. So $3,000 added in savings. I put more in savings because I have been having a ton of very serious GI issues. I am very concerned about copays and deductibles. I worry daily I will be back in the hospital (the last stay for similar issues was 4 days and over 2K with insurance) and I want to be prepared just in case.

  • Pay off a few old debts of $600
Haven't touched this and I should. If the stimulus happens this will be first on the list.

Also my daughter's scholarship did not mess up taxes as much as I feared. Hopefully it stays this way moving forward.

Congratulations on paying off the credit card debt!! :cool1:

if you happen to let your costco membership lapse-if you renew before 2 months following it's termination they retro activate it (so you are paying for 2 months you did'nt use) but if you wait until after the 2 month mark it activates the day you renew.
