Debt Dumpers 2021

I've been seeing people selling their cars for massive profit lately because of the chip shortage on new vehicles. So for giggles, I decided to see how much we could get for our 2013 Sorento. A lot of people were mentioning Carvana was offering a good amount. The idea would be if we could get a decent amount, we could put that towards paying off the new one we bought last year before we found out we were pregnant and then trade that in on something bigger that will actually fit all 5 of us a little better (3 car seats are a little rough in the back seat).

Y'all, they offered $419. 🤣🤣🤣 Needless to say, we'll be keeping it a little longer.

On another note, final trip down to the MFM specialist was yesterday. Little man is still consistently measuring 2 weeks ahead, is almost 7lbs at 34.5 weeks, and ridiculously low. She said she'd be surprised if we make it to 4th of July weekend, but even if we do, because of my GD I'll be induced the week of the 13th anyway. I'm beyond ready. Everything hurts lately, I'm past exhausted, we have all the things we need. Just need the baby. (Hopefully the pic of my chunky little dude attached)Image_6 (1).jpg

How exciting. My sister is pregnant with twins and she is going to be induced on the 15th. Hers weighed in at the MFM this week at 4 lbs each, which is like the 60th percentile for twins (she 33.5 weeks along right now), so I imagine hers will be at least 5 lbs at birth. She bought a bunch of tiny little premie outfits because she was sure they were going to be super tiny being twins and coming 3 weeks early, but I think they might be able to just about start out in newborn size.

My husband got an offer from the dealer he bought his 2019 vehicle from. The offer, plus an additional cash back incentive, plus my husband works for the company so would get the employee rate…. We think he can basically upgrade his car to a 2021 model for free. He’s entertaining the idea because why not? They haven’t assessed his car though so the offer may decrease after that (small ding in one of the doors).

I hope so. One thing I've noticed is that I want it 2 degrees cooler than I used to. It is super humid here right now. I have two theories, either it running so much less means that the air isn't drying out, so it feels warmer. Or, the thermostat isn't accurate. Well, third theory is that our old one wasn't accurate, although it was pretty new too.

We live in an exurb so sometimes it can take awhile to get people to the house. The house had central air, but it also came with a couple of window units. One of them has lived on the back porch just outside the big living room window. DH installs it while waiting for an AC guy. I think we can move that to the shed now.
Do you have a dehumidifier? We have a little portable one and it's amazing how much water that baby can pull out of the air. On cooler, rainy days, the AC doesn't run much and makes our interior more humid than usual. The dehumidifier can make it drop 20 percentage points in one evening.

We live in an exurb of Dallas. We actually have a humidifier. But, it is unusually humid >90% lately. It is so unusual that I don't mind the rain/humidity. When we bought this house, I liked that I drove over a lake. Something about looking at a lake soothes my soul. It had needed a lot of work, and by the time we moved in the lake was so dry I called it "Field Lavon." You literally could not see water driving on the bridge. Fortunately, a year or so later all the lakes in this region were topped up.

What kind of phone did you get? I need a new phone mine has a crack in the camera and I really don't want to lug my big camera to Disney this summer. I keep holding off but I think the time has come.

Finally broke down and got a new phone yesterday. Went with the Samsung 21s it was $800 but got $700 for trading in my old phone. I wasn't really prepared to give up the old phone and I didn't write down any bookmarked websites so I'm upset with myself. Also the process in the story took like 4 hours- i felt like I should have been leaving with a new car 😂. Now I've got to watch the bill when it comes in to make sure everything is credited correctly.

Back from our trip. We had a GREAT time. We went a little over budget but still used cash so it was fine. It was so good to see my nephew and get to spend time with him.

Came home Sunday night and while we were getting dinner we saw our landlord and he mentioned he is ready to sell the place finally. We have always wanted to purchase this rental but were hoping for another year of renting but oh well. Of course, prices are crazy high right now but not much we can do about that!

it’s probably why he’s ready to sell it. Of course it’s like you said nothing you can do about that. Hopefully it won’t be too much more than if he would of sold it in normal times. Good luck

Wow beautiful pictures! We are going to Yellowstone next month and are so looking forward to it!
Thank you! I hope you have a wonderful time, it’s so amazingly beautiful and diverse. So many times I would take a picture then walk two steps and decide I needed another. 😍

Those pictures are amazing! Yellowstone is on our bucket list. Thinking maybe in 2023.

Thank you! You will love it. 🥰 Maybe you already know this, but several of the popular areas are boardwalks with no railings but lots of signs that say don’t step off because you can step into very dangerous areas (acidic or boiling water, fragile land holes, etc). And in some places you can reach out and touch the water, even though you shouldn’t. 😳 I know your new little guy will be about two, and that’s a fiercely independent age. Just something to be aware of if you weren’t already!

Isn’t there a way to easily transfer from old phone to new? I’ve only had i-phones so I’m not familiar with Samsung but when I got a new phone in December, I just had to hold old and new near each other for about 5 mins and it even transferred my preferred settings such as disabling the auto-complete & auto correct features which drive me crazy.

My pictures, contacts, and apps transferred but not bookmarked sites or any logins. I really don't know if that is normal, I don't get a new phone very often. All I know is it took forever in the store then even longer when I got home getting logged back into stuff I forgot pws for.

Do you not use the Chrome browser? It saves all your logins and bookmarked sites regardless of how you access the internet. If you have been using the included Samsung internet browser, stop doing that immediately and download the Chrome app.

Yes I use Chrome but bookmarked sites didn't transfer to my new phone. Maybe the guy setting it up missed a step idk 🤷‍♀️.

Are you sure you have logged into Chrome on the new phone? Your Chrome bookmarks should always be there on any device (phone or computer) that you are logged into on.

I haven't told dh yet but the $1000 he gave me for my birthday just got plunked down on the mortgage. He really wanted me to spend it on myself or use it toward a vacation but right now there's nothing else I want more than to have the mortgage gone. As of today's calculations, it should be done by mid-October. I can't even think about buying clothes, vacations or anything else. It's all I can think about.
:cheer2: :hourglass

Good for you! :cheer2:Mid-October will be here before you know it.

That's how we were in the final stretch. EVERY SPARE PENNY WENT TO THE MORTGAGE! And then I'd update my countdown and spreadsheet and it would motivate me to find more $ in the budget to devote to the mortgage and speed up the payoff, even if only by a few weeks.

Yes! :goodvibes:yay: A few weeks is huge now. I’m hoping dh can get some OT soon.
Dh is not quite as passionate about it as I am. When we realized the bedroom TV is too old to stream Disney+ he wanted to buy a more modern one. He says,”They’re cheap now, a couple hundred bucks.” Noooooo!!! I will watch it on living room TV. I only got the D+ for one month to watch Luca. That is my summer splurge spending. $8.26.:rotfl2:

Very early July update (I know I’ll forget in July).

2021 Financial Goals: I’m adding in a new one
  • Pay off the 150 DVC points we just added direct. It’s 6 months at 0% on the Disney card so I’m planning to just pay it off with a little over minimum payments for the first 5 months and then in a lump sum for month 6. It should be feasible; I’m teaching two summer classes and the salary from those should cover half of the cost so I will only need to dip into the savings for the other half. That makes me feel better than having to take it all out of savings.

2021 Personal Goals:
  • Take more day trips-in progress and going well! We’ve made it to Block Island, Newport, Cape Cod, and Martha’s Vineyard so far. We still have trips to Fire Island, Nantucket, Portsmouth, Bar Harbor, and Lake George on the list of trips (usually weekend trips) we would like to check off before the girls go to summer camp in August.
  • Make LegoLand NY a priority for at least 3 long weekends-LegoLand is not yet officially open so we are waiting; we did make it to a preview day and the kids loved it.
  • Convince my husband that we should drive to WDW at least once-done! But this is something he will only consider once the kids are order. I’ll take it!
  • Take a real vacation—I am adding this on because, even when we were away in November and May, there was always some issue that had to be dealt with at work and I still had virtual meetings on each trip. I know some of this was due to Covid and campus being mostly closed but I really need some down time. To help facilitate this, I’ve told my colleagues that I will not be available for video meetings beginning on 12/24/21 and ending on 1/9/22. In that time, we are heading to Disney from 12/30/21 to 1/8/22 and my laptop will not be coming with me for once. I plan to disconnect and enjoy my time with my family. I haven’t been able to do this since shortly before March 2020.

It's been a busy week and not much chance to read the boards or Disney news. No summer travel plans this summer, too busy unfortunately but do have a two day beach weekend Virginia Beach later on using the Marriott certificate partially for. It's a drive, no flights, so shouldn't be too expensive overall since the room will be free.

Did however take time out tonight to look at the IRS opt out. Since we did a joint file we each did our ID.me or what not in the IRS system via ID.me to opt out of the advanced child tax credit. For me was a small pain not a big deal, but my uploaded passport photo attempts kept getting errors of glare and error reading, finally just went back out of the system and chose drivers license upload instead, and no problem. Then it does a creepy face scan, lol. Verify some basic info you are who you say you are. System said it can take up to 7 days processing time.
