confession: I went into debt a little bit deeper today.
We found the perfect prom dress for my senior. It was originally $717 (I KNOW!!!) and was down to $314.00. Em tried it on a couple of weeks ago and the shop owner told her that if someone came in and bought it, it was gone. They could not order another one. At that time we weren't willing to commit. we looked around a bit more and found another one we loved but it was $500 and something and I just said, "I'm sorry sweetie, but that's way too much".
Well we went back today and the original dress was still there, she tried it on again along with about 6 other dresses of various price points and i caved. I know that there might be cheaper options on-line and I also know that we might have been able to find one at a second-hand shop if we got lucky, but I made the decision to say 'yes'.
So $314.00, we paid 25% down today using the debit card (I had started to save up a little bit so I wouldn't have to put it on credit). The shop is running a deal that if you bring in something for the local humane society (used sheets, towels, dog/cat food) they would take $25.00 off the price. So we'll do that, for sure. And I signed a layaway agreement to pay $30.00 every two weeks. So it's not unreasonable and i shouldn't have to use credit.
I know that making this decision can be seen as a step in the wrong direction but I also think that sometimes, if you make a thoughtful and informed decision, the right answer is sometimes, "sure sweetie, we can do this for you."
