Debt Dumpers - 2016

I think I mentioned I have an interview this week at a place that's a long commute and less pay than what I was making, but the company has good benefits and sounds interesting. Well, today I got another interview at a place next week that's closer by. They said my experience was impressive and their work sounds interesting too. And I also heard back from a different place that called me a few weeks ago to say they are still reviewing materials, so when I was on vacation, I didn't really miss anything. I hope to get a phone interview with them too, but have not been invited for one yet. All are in my specialized area of expertise, so interested to see what they both have to say about a "typical day" and all that. The kids go back to school in two weeks and I'd love to be following them soon after.

Threw another $1,000.00 on the car. It's down to $3500.00. I'm hoping to pay it off in September-the month we have 3 paychecks!

DH followed up to make sure that they were able to get in contact with his references. No job offer yet, but they did email back this morning saying that the reference information worked out, they didn't need anything else at the moment and that they had submitted information to HR. I take that to mean that they are running a background check, which if so, is a super good sign that he is a finalist and they are just checking out everything before making the official offer! EEEEE! This would be such a great thing for DH. This job search has been difficult for him. I know it would help out his self esteem tremendously to get this job (not to mention our debt dumpting efforts). I know there is still a chance they won't make an offer, but I think that is pretty low (should be no issues with a background check) and all of the signs point in a very positive direction!

Yes, DH is Canadian. He got his green card in February, which is when he started looking for a job. It has been about 6 months now.

About a third of the way through on meeting the minimum spend on the 2nd Amtrak card. BOA made a mistake and opened 2 of the no annual fee version so I have to decide whether to keep both open after my points post. Good news is that I plan to apply for the annual fee version next year for more free travel! DH has the annual fee version now and met the minimum spend last month.

We leave for vacation on Sunday so I have to pay for our hotel ($100) in VA and hotel in Cocoa Beach ($200 park and cruise package). Plus DD has her birthday skating party on Saturday (around $200 when you add in food for adults). I will use the card for that also. So after paying these expenses, I should have no problem spending the additional $100 needed to go over 1k since Disney =$$$$.

When we return, the card is going in the drawer and I will resume using my AMEX spg. I love AMEX as I feel they are the most consumer friendly bank. I also value starpoints and am sitting on almost 30,000 of them which I will use for a week somewhere next year.

You guys may not hear from me for awhile ( we won't return until right before Labor Day), but I'll check in periodically. Hope everyone continues to dump debt and see ya'll in September!

I am sending you more pixie dust and a few prayers.
My son has been looking since Feb and the whole process has really done a number on his self esteem. I am trying daily to help him be positive. He has two phone interviews tomorrow and one in person interview next week. He is a computer programmer. Just wanted to let you know I am thinking of you and hoping for GREAT things to happen.

I am trying to start a savings account for a new car in a few years so my goal was how to make a bit of extra money so I opened an online shop to sell my Disney Planner/Journal. I DISign here on the DIS for free but,
a few of my things have been taken and sold on a few sites so after 8 years I figured if yah can't beat why not join them. So that's what I been doing with my time off from my school job this summer. For me this was a huge learning curve challenge (tech). But I'm proud of myself and hope it turns out well.

I am trying to start a savings account for a new car in a few years so my goal was how to make a bit of extra money so I opened an online shop to sell my Disney Planner/Journal. I DISign here on the DIS for free but,
a few of my things have been taken and sold on a few sites so after 8 years I figured if yah can't beat why not join them. So that's what I been doing with my time off from my school job this summer. For me this was a huge learning curve challenge (tech). But I'm proud of myself and hope it turns out well.

I can't speak to the Canadian thing but when my former job was doing a background check on me (after they made me an offer, not before), it took a couple weeks before that was completed and I was cleared to start my first day.

DH used to work for a government contractor and they said his was the fastest turnaround they'd had on a background check, and it still took two weeks!

I am officially debt free and have paid off an entirely grotesque student loan balance.

The sad irony is because I'm left with nothing but debt from credit cards, my credit score will drop. Still worth it though!
