Debt Dumpers - 2016

DH got a call back for a second interview tomorrow for a position at the university. It is an entry level position, but DH told them that he would be fine with that even though he has 2+ years experience. I am really hoping he gets an offer! It would be great for him to finally start working. It has really been rough and I know he is frustrated. He has been looking since February and has been to many interviews, but no offers yet.

As you said, it's not a solid offer but at least you could interview for practice and it's always easier to get something else when you have a current job. Good luck.
I hope you are enjoying Montreal. The next time we go to Canada (5 years), we plan to visit Montreal, Quebec and Ottawa. We liked Toronto but want to explore other Canadian cities. Vancouver is a goal, as well.
We have liked them all. We didn't have time for Quebec City this time but DH and I have been there before. Next we need to do west coast. I grew up in Maine so I've done all of Atlantic Canada although it's been years.

How are you doing? How's the car? Are you excited about heading back to the classroom?

Hey, I'm doing good. The car is great, though I don't think that they recharged the air conditioner correctly. It doesn't seem like it blows as cold now as it was before. :confused3

Classes started back on Monday, so that's where I've been all week. This first week is both great and dreadful. I love teaching, and getting to know my students, but the drawback to high school (though I can't imagine elementary) is that too many of the students view these first days as social time to catch up with their friends. :crazy2:

Maybe it needs some freon added? Wonder if they had to drain your fluids or anything with the work they did? I could be saying total garbage, I don't know that much about cars, but I know DH's old car when we were teenagers would need freon added every so often.

Good luck with your first week back! My best friend just got her first teaching position and their first day of school was yesterday!

Glad you are back to school. My kids don't return until 9/8/16! I hope the kids don't frustrate you too bad.

DH had his interview yesterday. They asked for his references and he sent those over last night. I know that they will all say good things about him (one of his references is my brother, who was the project manager and his supervisor on his last job), so I am really hoping that he will get an offer. This is the furthest he has gotten into the process so I am pretty hopeful. Please send good thoughts his way!

That's great! I've never had someone check my references where the didn't ultimately offer me the job, so I really hope it works out for him too!

I think I need to buy stock in "Vinegar".
The bathroom sink backed up and I tried the baking soda and vinegar and it worked,,,,saved me calling a plumber.:yay:
I just googled how to get salt off a car carpet and again Vinegar and warm water.....I am trying to do a cleaning and detailing of my car to save money.
Yeah Vinegar!!:worship:
Hugs Mel

Put the deposit down for Disneyland and paid off 1 debt collector. Paid 1 part of my car payment and after paying another car payment at the end of the month, I will be caught up!

I started getting into coupons more and saved over $50 at walgreens in 2 trips. It helps to have an employee discount as well.

Hoping to get better and learn how to do grocery coupons right.

There are a lot of websites out there that can make couponing super easy! Especially if you want to use Walgreens. Check out Money Saving Mom, she has sort of a general life/home blog, but I know she posts Walgreens deals every week. If you just google Walgreens and couponing you will probably find a lot. If you have a Kroger or one of the Kroger family grocery stores in your area, I used Kroger Krazy. She matches up all the sales and coupons for Kroger and makes it extremely easy.

We're getting further along than it seemed like we would a month ago. We had $2000 in the bank for spending money/food/gas/etc for our WDW trip. We ended up getting a deal on $400 in GCs and I used that money to pay for it. So, come our trip we had a $750 gift card and $1600 in the bank for anything else. We only ended up charging approximately $500 more. So, at the end of our trip I had $1000 savings which I sent direclty to our car payment. Since I last posted (and made this payment today - payday!) we only owe $2,000 on our car! Just the regular payment plus the money I get monthly from our DCSA will pay this off by August. Then we'll start knocking out those student loans.

I also estimated our debts (estimated for Aug 16) to August 15. We are going to have paid off about $27,000 this year. I'm super impressed!

One year after beginning our "big debt payoff" we've paid off $29,313 in debts! On August 15, 2015 we had 109,100 in debts. Today, Aug 15, 2016 we have 79,787. In the last year we paid off two cars as well as continuing to make regular (even overpayments) to our other debts (house, student loans, hvac system). I can't wait to see where we stand another year from today. We're expecting to only having our home loan one year from today and hopefully be making double/triple payments!

Wow!!! That's amazing progress. Congrats!

My twins started public school!!!

Here's my OP to the thread:
Hi all! I'm not officially a part of the group, but ever since August 15 we've been seriously paying off debt! We've never had CC debt, but we have a mortgage, 2 student loan payments and 2 car payments as of 8/15. The big change for us in Aug 2015 was our twins starting Kindergarten! We were pretty much just getting by + having enough money to put some into savings until that point. But public school began savings us approximately 1000 each month vs paying for childcare or private preschool. First we started sending every bit of extra money to our van (lowest debt amount) and paid it off about Jan 16. Then we've rolled that money and any extra into our other car which is now down to about $4500. Once that is paid off (hopefully by the end of the year) we'll begin sending our extra money to the two student loans which are about $9K today. After that we'll move on to our house which is about $79K. According to a payoff spst I downloaded based on paying what we currently owe plus any snowball (not counting extra we have each month) we'll be debt free in 5 years. It's really hard to believe, but we're going for it!

We've got our disney trip coming up (Room + Tickets paid for last year and 2K spending money in the bank...so shouldn't set us behind) and then we'll slow down over the summer when we have childcare costs again, but hoping to be back up and running full speed come August 16!

If anyone has a moment, prayers and pixie dust appreciated for my D, who is interviewing for her first real post-college job today. It would be a great fit for her, and maybe we could someday get her off of our cell phone plan! Mostly kidding about the cell phone plan -- it's not a large expense, but this job would be a great final (?) step to being launched for her.
