This may sound totally insane but I just ordered myself a Roomba. We just moved into an "atomic-rancher" style home, and I've been saying for a year that I really want one - but - I don't want to pay for it.

After almost 7 whole months of surveys and stupid ad-based cell phone games for Amazon credit, I was able to order it last night for $0 and it should be here by tomorrow or Monday!

Next on my list is an iPhone 6. I've been saving $2 a paycheck for the last 2 years so we will see what I end up having to dole out for that come September!

Ok, you got me. What's an atomic rancher?
Also can you explain how to get the Amazon credits? I do surveys but they came from SWA.
I have a 20 min train ride into Philly M-F so it's nice to do something productive. Not that reading Disboards isn't.

Does the Roomba beat up your furniture? Does it take batteries?

Well I was all set to go get a Costco membership this weekend. We have a list of about 10 items that we know are cheaper or products that we really like that we will want on a monthly basis (one of which is dog food). Can anyone say "bad idea!" with me? Who am I kidding? Shopping and sticking to the list is my kryptonite, add in Costco and I'll blow the budget every time.
However, my inlaws nicely offered to pick up said items for me once a month when they do their big Costco shop. Perfect!! I stay out of the store, I still get the savings on the things I actually use, and I don't blow the budget on a regular basis.
Phew.. that was close..


ETA) Not to mention our closest Costco is 45 minutes away and I was already thinking "Let's make an afternoon of it, dh and I can stop for lunch after.. blah blah blah. The budget was blown before I even set foot in the store! Caught myself this time!

No issues with Roomba beating up furniture. Has a built in battery with a "home" recharging station. Unit drives back to the charging station when job is complete. I've been using it for almost 6 years and love it. I still get my heavy duty vacuum out when I need the job done NOW.

We have spent over $10K on vacations for May and the rest of the year (four in total, two big, two small), and now are out of our vacation fund

Fortunately, we do have a vacation fund, and we even got a bit of money saved in it while our DD was little. Then, came the big spend time. I am trying to cut down on our regular expenses a bit, so we have some extra money for the trip to Russia and Disney.

My dd gave me a membership for Mother's Day. I put my youngest dd-24 on the plan too, since she likes to go along. This way, I am not paying for her items and being told, "I'll pay you when we get home." I like the packaged chicken breast, and Costo's brand Margarita Mix. I know I am not being green, but I also pick up the paper towels. I'm glad too that they started selling single gallon milk jugs. The strawberries and rasberries are so much better too than in our local grocery store.

Wow, I never knew anyone vacationed to Russia. Welcome to the group. It is hard to save for Disney and this is pretty much why we are all here, to cut down on spending, get debt free. If you have any questions, ask away.

Trust me, that's the kind of vacation you need a vacation from Need to go because both grandmas are there, and none have seen our daughter yet, and she is 3 already. On the second negative, it will suck all of my vacation days out, and I will only have one day left, which will be using on Wednesday before Thanksgiving for a trip to Cancun.

My goal is cut down on going out in June. We like nice restaurants, and usually go out once or twice a week on the weekend. We did not eat out last weekend, and skipped this Saturday already On the flipside, I scheduled Botox a few weeks ago for this Thursday. It will be on a promo, and I will go minimal with it, still I expect to spend ~$300. I feel like a total pampered whiner!

Getting impatient- we're so close to having all our credit cards paid off. We've been saving for a cruise for the last year and will have it paid off Wednesday. It's so tempting to cancel it and just take the money and pay everything off. This is our first "real" vacation and it feels so good to be paying cash for all off it. So even though it's temping DH and I agree that we'll not regret a single thing by not using the money on our snowball.

Your brave, I would never do Botox. I see you are going to Disney too, is that over Christmas break? Or am I a few weeks off. If it is Christmas break, it is the most expensive time of the year to go.

Oh, yes it is. I would presume it will feel twice as long with a toddler!

We are going to WDW on January 2. No vacation left for me after going to Russia! But I am very excited. I think we will really enjoy the smaller crowds.

Congratulations on your progress! It is completely different to pay with cash, and you will not want to go back to charging it. We have had a vacation account for about 8 years now, and it has been working great for us. Just needs a little bit of help this year.

This was so me a few weeks ago
I am struggling because my brother told me that I could get cheaper gas at Costco,,,but I just know I'd never be able to just go there and get gas without going inside to "look around".
Say after me "I shall NOT go to Costco"

I hope to be joining you with paying off a credit card next month. I looked at my last statement for my Discover card and since May 17th, after todays payment - we have made $3,508 in payments THIS MONTH ALONE

YNAB/Dave Ramsey's snowball method is working wonders for us. I am so grateful to be on the right path

Congrats! It feels so good to get the first cc paid off, but once you start paying off the others it really feels great!!

Everyone on here is doing a fantastic job!! You should all be so proud of your accomplishments! I haven't been able to get on here too much with the new job I have, I am working 60-65 hours a week and only get one day off, so I am pretty drained!

With my pay cut and hours cut, I was able to pick up someone else's hours, because another person quit, and someone else quit this week, so hopefully I can get a few of her hours, since I can easily do a few of her duties. I am back to 30 hours, but at the cut pay. With the extra hours I picked up, the pay is even more of a cut, but at least it is money.

I got a credit card paid off too this month, I have been paying everything extra towards it that I possible could since I knew my pay cut was coming in July. It was my very last credit card.

That is great that you have your cc paid off!! Sorry to hear about the pay cut. It's always hard. That was the one downfall of me leaving my job - but health wise it seems like the best decision I have made!!
