Debt Dumpers - 2014

Welcome!! Since your furniture is interest free, I would focus on the car first.
Where are you planning your anniversary?

I'm almost scared to post this but we have a ton of Disney points from our CC and the girls want to swim with the dolphins too while we are down. Someday, maybe 30 year I so want to do Hawaii, that is why I got to get a better handle on our $s.

Car loan is UNDER $1,000!! I am so excited to mail my final payment next week after pay day!

Thank you! It is frustrating for example when Dh did the car loan and doesn't even know the rate or term he did it for last summer.:badpc:

If he just will not help with the budget and is relying on you....Just have the cable cut off...if he says anything just tell him "The cost of it's not in my budget. Would you like to go over the budget NOW to see if we can continue paying such high rates? " :rotfl2:

PaulaSue I would take a hammer to his head :rotfl: Who does that?? (Obviously your husband!!) lol. Hopefully you can research and find out what he has gotten you into! Now, if he got a very low interest rate, kudos to him!! lol.

I noticed that most of you cut your cable down to the bare minimum or even get rid of it completely. What about cell phones? Do you guys have just the basic phones or smartphones?

We got rid of cable in February when our direct tv contract was over. We just have Netflix.

DH and I have iPhones through AT&T. Our bill is $125. Would love to get it cheaper. Our contract is up in February. We want to keep our iPhones though not sure if it's possible to get it cheaper.

Well my husband and I are both retired, me from BellSouth him from AT&T. I get my landline free for life and internet for $5.00 he gets a great discount from AT&T for the Cell phones. We have I-phones with data, texting, plus loads of minutes with an additional line for my Mom...

Grr, I hope you guys will understand my vent.

I wish my Dh would wake up and get his head out of the sand. Seriously after bugging him for days about setting up a real budget up he tells me something BIG about his pay and it is not good. Thankfully he still has a job and says things will get better but he mentioned a guy at work may not be so lucky.

So do I believe him or do I cancel everything (I so want too, I just took off approx $80 of my monthly AMZN order I do instead of going to BJs to stock up the house) I can for example the tons of extra cable channels (he needs with netflick and we have AMZN prime too) and the new exercise equip to replace ours that is broken and needs $400 in parts to fix (it needs something $150-300 every year or so the last few years and the new one is $950 with my discount)

GRRR....

That is an awesome deal!

I would cut costs with the cable. How about cell phones? If you have smartphones can you go back to basic phones? Could you cancel amazon prime? (I don't know if you pay for that - I don't know what amazon prime is). This way you can be prepared just in case. And you can always add back on the cable additions and phones at a later time.

I think it has been 7 years since the kids and I have had cable. Been using Netflix since 2009 and we are just fine with that.

The cell phone plan is killing me at $178 a month. It is 4 lines but only my phone is a smart phone. Two of the phones are my teenagers and they are both on the verge of being useless (the phones not the teenagers LOL). :( I can't upgrade them to smartphones because I am in a major grandfathered plan with Verizon. If I upgrade my bill will be close to $300 a month. This single mom can't justify that. Plus I don't think my kids need smart phones ;) The 4th phone is my back up/business line. It sits on the kitchen counter for emergencies.
I imagine that I will have to upgrade with in the next few months. I stay with Verizon because they have treated me well in the past 10 years and I get an 18% discount through my work.

I don't have a cell phone at all, I just use a landline (our cell service here is horrible so we have to have one). One of my kids has a smartphone, it was given to him, and we use Ting for his service. It's kind of a "pay for what you use". My DD has a tracfone, just got it for Christmas. I think I'm going to get a tracfone soon, also, just to make sure the kids' schools can get ahold of me when I'm not home.

Just did Cell plan (only Dh has a smart phone and that is for Work needs) but after bugging him for 4-5 months that we are not using all minutes/need them so cut that $12 a month or so. Can't cut AMZN that is my work/perk  Cable I could cut :rolleyes1

Just got off chat with my cell-phone company. Canceled one of the lines on my account, (the person I had gotten it for has managed to get another phone) and reduced my monthly minutes. Will save me between $55 and $60 a month. That may not be much, but its over $650 a year. And that means I'll be paying my CC bills down that much faster now.

I'm debating canceling my Netflix and switching to Amazon Prime. I'm currently in a 30 day trial that expires the 18th so I need to decide. It will save me over 100 a year not including the free shipping options. Does anyone have Prime that can compare it to Netflix? TIA
