Debt Dumpers - 2014

With money we were given for Christmas from ILs, we paid off the last of our DS's medical and therapy bills from his car accident. We also refinanced our house and closed on it last week so that helps with cash flow.

Next goal, start working on those stupid credit cards. We have two smaller balances that are going to be gone by June so we can then snowball on the big one.

Sigh.

This year is starting off much better than last year, Great Job of paying off the medical bills. With your willpower those Credit Card bills will be paid off soon.

Just found a letter from my Mortgage Company (that my DH forgot to give me yesterday) I had an Escrow Overage this year and a check should be in the mail. Plus my mortgage payment has deceased around $20.00 a month. :woohoo:

This is great news!! And a savings on your monthly mortgage of $240 for the year :cool1:

The Escrow account is for my Homeowners Insurance and my Property Taxes...Now my next homeowners is due in September 2014 so no worries, my property taxes are due in November 2014, but my last mortgage payment will be this October 2014, I'm worried that they will issue a check for any escrow money left in the account without paying the 2014 property taxes. (because it won't be due yet) so I maybe "Checks in the Mail." when my taxes are due...:confused3 They posted that the overage check was mailed Dec 30, 2013 so I'll track how long it takes to arrive. I really am HAPPY that my mortgage will be paid but I always seem to be worried about something...:rotfl:

You will be doing a major happy dance that month :cool1: I actually cancelled my escrow account after the first year because they wanted to keep a cushion in the account or something crazy, so I told them to close the escrow and I just make sure it's in my budget to pay the property taxes in September and the Homeowners Policy in December.

Ugh our homeowners insurance just went up almost $100 this year :( We are going to switch our car insurance to the same company though when it renews next month, hopefully that helps. Plus I keep forgetting to email the certificate for our alarm system that will knock about $25 off. I guess our mortgage will go up then argh.

Edit: just did the quote, will save $100 off what we are currently paying for car insurance by switching! It's better coverage too. Just need to remember to do it at the end of this month. YAY!

Besides noting how long it takes them to mail the check also see when they typically pay your tax bill. Our mortgage company pays it and homeoners ins as soon as the bill comes, long before the due date.

In the 29 years + 3 months I have only had two overages, once when they redid the homestead exemption on the property taxes, the other was this year. Most years they where right on the mark.

But I will have to start a saving account for the insurance and taxes for 2015.:cool1:

::yes:: My mortgage company always paid as soon as the bill was posted, here when you pay the property taxes early you get a discount or rather the later or closer to the final due date it cost more.

I'm in!

- I wanna pay off the large amount of debt I accrued over the last 1.5 years.... (or at least 75% of it).
- I wanna be able to pay off my trip to Europe by December
- I wanna start an emergency fund of at least $2,000

I'm debating canceling my Netflix and switching to Amazon Prime. I'm currently in a 30 day trial that expires the 18th so I need to decide. It will save me over 100 a year not including the free shipping options. Does anyone have Prime that can compare it to Netflix? TIA

This is something I should seriously consider also. We are big Netflix fans, but the benefits with Amazon prime seem to be good too. Especially when I am always buying stuff and have a Kindle.

Welcome to the thread!! Sounds like you have a plan! Remember, every extra bit paid towards your debt is a huge accomplishment!!

Which countries will you be visiting in Europe?

That's always nice. Ours will be coming shortly, I think. It's almost always unrest images by a little bit and usually our mortgage goes up like $11.

Make a note on your calendar! Atleast that will cover the $100 increase in your homeowners insurance!

I'd be so lost without my calendar. Then as a extra step to offset my early dementia, I circle in red pen any appointments or reminders that we need to be somewhere at a certain time.

:sad2:

I am with you on that :thumbsup2 I used to only use a calendar at work for reminders, and then I bought a calendar that I carry with me. This has been a blessing!! I no longer even use a calendar at work - everything goes in my calendar that I carry every where with me!!
It also shows that I no longer have the memory I used to have :lmao:

Increase your deductibles and you can save some big money. I mean if you have a $2,000 loss are you really going to make a claim anyway? My coworker made one small claim for water in his basement. I guess the claim got entered into some big database that all of the insurance companies use. He tried to compare rates recently and most companies declined to give him a quote based on previous claim history.

I always keep the lowest deductible possible. But I know a lot of people who take high deductibles to save money. I just always think once I change to a high deductible that's when something would happen!! I do the same with car insurance - $100 deductible and $1000 on homeowners. In order for me to really save money I would have to really increase the deductible.

I am in. I was looking for something like this to keep me motivated. Cannot wait to hear/share tips and motivations!
