Debt Dumpers - 2013

Great job! :thumbsup2 What company did you buy from. I looked for undercover tourist but didn't see them. Thanks

I think you can buy them through Orbitz via Ebates and get the 10.5% back.

Have you looked at My Fitness Pal? It's an app and a website and it's free. You just log your weight, and you use their database to log your food and exercise.

You can add friends too.

I use this app and I love it!

Today, I went into the bank and got a lower interest rate on our mortgage which will shave off 5 years :cool1:

This week, I also switched DH and 2 DD cellphones to Koodo from Bell...goodbye contracts and the monthly rates are so much lower than Bell...and we got $200 worth of Future Shop gift cards for doing it.

One last thing which I am really proud of...I have been bringing my breakfast, lunch and snacks to work everyday since the new year (with the exception of 3 days when I went out to Subway for lunch). I did join Weight Watchers in January but would have spent so much more if I had have kept buying my food out at work.

We just had some repairs done on our car and it was less broken than we'd expected. I saved $150 off the quoted repair price. Took that money right away and put it into our savings account. Whoot!

Way to go!!! Packing lunches makes a difference! That is what I do. I couldn't believe how much money I was going through eating out all the time!

I love it when car repairs cost less than what I expected!! It sure doesn't happen very often though!!

LOL this totally made me laugh -- less broken -- that is something I would say. Good for you, car repairs are NEVER less than I expect!

We just signed the docs to refi our mortgage - will save about $200/mo and locked into a great rate, while still having about $100k in equity :thumbsup2 And my car is paid off in 3 months, there's another $210/mo savings coming soon.

Paid off the last of the dinky little credit cards this evening. Now to roll those payments onto my bigger ones.

And I just switched Comcast to Verizon, will save another $50/mo there for the next 2 years.

We're getting there!

:lmao:

Well it WAS still broken a little bit... ;) I really like our mechanic. He only charged for an hour of labour and it was there for over 5 hours!

Ah! I'm so glad I found this thread. Apologies for joining in so late in the game...

I was doing well for awhile....two credit cards, paid most of it off every month. Then my rent went up right after the holidays and my Disney trip, so I started using my "emergency" credit card (I kept it on a shelf in my house and only ever used it for emergency expenses such as a car repair/veterinary bill/etc) for daily things until I got back on my feet after adjusting to the new rent and recovering from those other expenses.

Today I realized my "emergency" credit card is $500 away from being maxed out and really took a look at how bad my credit card debt is on my other two cards.

My rent payment is what kills me every month, so my wonderful parents are going to pay my rent the next two months to help me get started on the dumping the debt. I am SO grateful for that but still need all the help I can get.

Makes me feel better to see I am not the only one struggling with this stuff! Wishing everyone well in their quest to become debt free :)

Welcome!! Sometimes you don't realize how much debt you have until you sit down and look at all the balances! I know for a long time as long as I could make the payment I never paid attention to them. Then reality hits!! Plus it's always a budget killer when your rent increases.
Sounds like you have great parents to help you out so you can try to get out of debt :thumbsup2

Well, I just put another $700 on my cc. I thought that I would have it paid off, but still waiting on my state refund to come in, which is taking forever. It has been 5 weeks. So I will have to call them again next week.

My plan was to have the card paid off today, and I could because I have the money in savings to do it, but since it's 0% interest I will wait. I expect that it will be paid off at the end of the month though, if the taxes come in.

You guys are all doing a great job!!

Great job! Hopefully they will hurry up and send that check.

I just put another $600 on our CC#1. It's below $1000 now. YAY! :cool1: It should be paid off next month, then onto the last card. I've sold a few things on ebay and have put all of that money on the card.
We could put even more if we could curb this stupid eating out. ::yes:: Working on that!!!

I love seeing the balance under $1k!!! It really makes you feel like your making progress then!! Eating out is a hard habit to break. I was really able to break the habit of that when I started weight watchers a few years ago. Now I only eat out normally once a month or twice a month! And I never realized how much I was spending until I stopped! I was surprised at how much the dollar menu at McDonald's added up too!!!

Congrats on your cc progress!

How do you politely decline big weekends away for family & friends birthdays?

Im finding it really har to keep the CC down. When I finally pay it down, it's time to book it back up again for the next celebration.

For some reason, our family & some frinds always organise 'weekend away ' parties and we have to wear the cost of hotels, food, travel + expenses.

This is a big problem for me too! DH comes from a family of 9 and nieces/nephews have their babies now so there is always a celebration! Even if we go to a house party we take food and drinks. I also have friends that like doing birthday dinners, couples dinner and girls night out dinners in fine dining restaurants. I LOVE to eat and I'm trying to take lunches and eat at home.

I have a lot of problems with my friends with that. My boyfriend and I would take turns, but now it's just getting insane. We had a frank talk with the latest person to plan one of these getaways- she (and probably most of our friends) didn't know we were paying for these weekends ourselves! Many (her among them) had spending money from their parents to pay for them. We both pay for our schooling ourselves, as little loans as possible. No financial help from our parents.

In the end we agreed we will take her out to a restaurant of her choice before or after the trip- we just couldn't swing $300 each to go to myrtle beach!

WOW! You all are doing so great! Me, not so much. Have controlled the spending, but don't have large amounts of $$$ to put toward the CC's. Every penny I make on Ebay is going towards it, but unfortunately I haven't had much time to actually list much. It's a vicious cycle LOL

We have a toddler and a baby on the way, so it's really really easy for us to politely bow out of these events!

One thing you can do is offer to host a potluck at your house. The cost of hosting is usually very low, especially when everyone else brings the food and drinks!

I would just say "That sounds like fun! Our finances are really tight right now, so we're going to have to pass. We'd love to do something local next time though"

The first step is controlling your spending. Even if your able to put $5 extra towards your debt, that's a plus!! The only reason I have been able to dump so much on it is because I got my federal tax return and put everything on it and am also working a lot of overtime, which will end at the end of this month. Otherwise, I wouldn't be able to dump a huge amount extra on it either.
