Debt Dumpers - 2013

I haven't posted in a while because I haven't been able to make headway but I just got really good news that I received a promotion and a $9k raise so I'll be able to pay off a lot more of my debt as of October!!! I also get a quarterly bonus that I'm thinking about making into my Disney fund. I'm very excited! I can't tell anyone at work just yet but a lot of people have been rooting for me so i feel incredibly blessed.

Congratulations, that is wonderful news!!!!

First month on a budget.... and I just paid $600 bucks on credit card debit. Yippee!! :cool1: What an awesome feeling!

Great job! :cheer2:

I know that feeling. My mom and sister's birthdays are 2 weeks before Christmas - on the same day!

Am I the only one who would return Bon Jovi for Johnny Depp?

I have to say, I'm not a big Johnny Depp fan, but as Jack Sparrow he is cute!!!

Congrats on the promotion!! That is a nice raise!! I have put in also for a promotion, but won't find out for another month or two if I got it. I'm not holding my breath on it, because the competition is a little more qualified than me. But I have my fingers crossed!

Last weekend I was excited and posted that my dh and I have a plan to start in January to get out of debt. Well we have had our first hiccup. Yesterday we had roter rooter come out because the sinks were draining slow and they discovered a broken drain pipe under the house!!!! Preliminary estimate is $3,000. They said snaking it could nurse it along for a bit but it will have to be replaced! :sad1: Our hope is to nurse it until after the first of the year and hopefully we can put our tax refund towards it- it won't pay it all but will at least put a chunk on it. Unfortunately, that means our vacations plans for next summer will most likely be deleted. I will miss vacation and it was for our 10 year anniversary, however; we are scheduled to go to Disney in December, 2015, and I would rather ditch next summers vacation than Disney! Just had to come on and complain. Thanks for listening!

That's awful!
Get at least another estimate for such a big job. We just had a roof done and I thought the first price was high until we got the 2nd one which was more than $2k higher than the 1st one. They were both good, reputable companies offering the same product so it was an easy comparison.
Hang in there & keep chugging along! :cheer2:

We all have those kinds of hiccups. :scared: The important thing is to not loose hope. It is easy for me when things get tough to think that it is hopeless and forgo my debt reduction. But remember this is why you are starting this journey so when there is a problem you can deal with it a little easier. And Disney in 2015 is going to be just as magical. Keep you chin up and we are here to listen.

We will definitely get another quote, but for some reason our town is difficult to get quotes in! we had a water line break in our front yard a few years back and the city gave us a list of names of companies that repaired that type of issue and we called everyone on the list and not one company came over! I am a probation officer and another officer had a client that worked for a different company so I was able to contact them to fix it finally. I guess the construction type companies in our area must have so much work they don't need more! ha!

My weakness is saying just forget it all when it goes wrong so I am trying to be an adult and not do that this time! ha! Thanks for listenin

Congratulations on your promotion and bonus. You should post even when you are not making headway. We are here to support you. :thumbsup2

First try and get that second quote, this may not be an option but it may. I'm not sure what kind of foundation your home has but when I was a teenager we had a broken pipe under my parents home, it was built on a concrete slab.

To fix the problem the plumbers needed to reroute the pipes around the house instead of under the house, my Dad got the specifications for the new trench and he and I dug this trench all the way around our home. While it took us about a week (After his work and my school) it saved them a lot with the repair cost. So don't be afraid to ask what you or your DH can do to defer some of the cost, it's called sweat equity. You never know with friends you may not even need a contractor to repair the problem.

So sorry this has happened,
Good Luck

Hope you managed to get through the week OK.

How was Homecoming not sure but it sounded like it may have been this week-end.

Maybe you can do a weekend away for your anniversary! I'm with everyone else, always get a second quote. I actually always get three. But compare the jobs, sometimes cheaper isn't always better!

We made it! It was hard but we did it. Unfortunately we are going to be struggling again these next two weeks. Car plates and both kids book fees are due. That's $450 total. Ugh!

But Homecoming is tonight. :). She is is excited!

Will you be posting a homecoming pic? I'm sure it will be a magical night!

Give me strength! I need to resist temptation & stay on track but somehow in reading in the cruise boards about the Magic being renovated & looking at pics of it in dry dock there was an ad for a 4-nt cruise for just $944 for 2 ppl over our school's Nov break. (Ds13 wants to return to Key West & both would love to see what they've done to the ship.)
Airfare is usually high to MCO during that week but since it's sailing out of Miami, we would fly into FLL and southbound flights are decent ($94 one way) I could use SWA points & only need to pay for return flights which are a bit steep $329 pp.
Even with that outrageous return flight it would still total just $1602 for a 4nt Disney cruise and flights. (unlimited food & non-alc drinks incl.)
If you're familiar with DCL you know this is an unbelievable price.
Dh has 32 hours of OT on his next check which would more than cover it.

:sad1: :crazy2:
We should have a smiley tearing his hair out. The only thing stopping me from jumping on this is that I don't have those days off work and IIRC someone else already has those days so my request would probably be denied.

Girl...All I can do is remind you of your post a few days ago.
Vacations are my weakness so if I can stop booking more trips, we'd save a lot more.

Anyway, I'm hoping to keep paying down bills and keep accruing points on my SWA so next summer we can all fly free. I do pay this off every month faithfully.

I don't know how I'll be able to go from Sept to next summer, Aug maybe, with no vacations. :guilty: One thing for sure I will not be fun to live with & eventually even DH The Saver will be pleading for a getaway. :lmao:
I'll do my best though & keep my eye on the prize! :teacher:

I know! and I do still pay it all every month but DCL is 0% for 6 mos with a Disney visa. That's the part that makes me weak. I need to get rid of that card! oh wait, saving the points too. sigh...

I keep a Word document of "The Plan" and need to spend more time with that than browsing on the cruise boards. It's so hard to stay away though. :badpc:
Like a pp said, "it's my kryptonite."
