Debt Dumpers - 2013

You go Spacegirl!! LOL on the Star Wars theme. I have that in my head now.

Christmas. :santa: It's all rolled up into ONE BIG box for us.:lmao:

I already told the kids that Santa will bring his normal one gift per kid but Christmas from me is small this year.

:rolleyes1 I'm pretending you guys aren't talking about Christmas already. :rolleyes1 :rotfl:

I know- its depressing thinking of Christmas this early! That said, the Christmas decorations and candy have been in the supermarkets here since August. It comes out before the Halloween stuff!!

:santa: I know....Sorry....but I buy for so many (15) that I have to spread out the money over a few months. As soon as I know what they want/need I try and find the best deals and go ahead and purchase it. :santa:

Opps !! that should be 19 people.

I am not usually ahead of the game for Christmas but I started shopping about a month ago. I have found that running around like a mad woman trying to get the best deals was just not worth it. Plus I feel like stock will be limited again this year so I'm buying stuff as I see it.
I found a few things for DD and DS11, and last weekend I found a great book for my mom. I went ahead and got them while I could.

Also for those on a budget who happen to have a smart phone. I use a free app called Santa's Bag by Clay Pot. I can take pics and add them to the app, list prices and stores, make a budget for each person, etc. I love it and I found that it helped me stay a lot more organized and on budget. and it's password protected so my kids can't see it. They think it's my direct phone line to Santa. LOL

Go SpaceGirl! :thumbsup2
So far I just preordered the PS4, & some accessories, from Amazon. I finally followed dh's advice and started putting a small amount into a Christmas Club so we're not scrambling every year.
I didn't get an old school Christmas Club but did open another account with Capital One 360 (previously ING), named it Christmas, and just put $25/week there. It's only up to around $500 so I will need to up that amount for sure but it's a good start.

When I worked (retired now) our Credit Union had a Christmas Club I participated in, it was great receiving the check the 1st of October every year. Not sure why but they no longer offer the Club as an option now.

I just spend what I can afford after my monthly bills are paid. That's why I started early. ( I don't usually start until late October)

Of course starting early may mean I'll may just keep buying until Christmas.

The app you have sounds neat, great way to make sure you get the best deals while keeping a great record of your spending.

We celebrate Chanuka and Christmas....Chanuka starts the night before Thanksgiving. *That* is way too early for me. I have not even started thinking about shopping yet.

Funny thing...I am normally done by now for all Christmas. LOL I really hate shopping and try to get it all done throughout the year. A few years ago, I had my first present done the day after the last Christmas. haha

I just remembered, I went to my DIS Meet up here in Indy and won a $50 GC to the Disney Store! :) I am using that for my 6 y/o. My oldest just wants cash. That's all she has wanted in the past years. So I give it to her and we go shopping on January 1st. Last year I made her save and in February she saved enough money to buy her own ipad3. She is now saving up to buy herself the new iphone5S with the higher memory. I never buy her phones.

My 6 y/o wants an ipod for christmas...I said no. She has $67 saved. I wont buy hers either. If they want that stuff, they buy it themselves and learn to appreciate it more.

I haven't bought a single Christmas present yet, but we have been budgeting for it since we started YNAB, so I'm a lot less stressed about starting the shopping process than I have been in the past. I need to start looking though so I can find some good deals. My mom & sister are so hard to buy for, I have no idea what to get them.

I think I have...lemme count....11? I hope I didn't leave anybody out. :rotfl: My extended family used to buy gifts for each other but we quit doing that and now just buy for the kids.

Since August?? :crazy2: I used to love Christmas but now it gets shoved in our face earlier & earlier every year that by the time it rolls around I'm ready for it to be over. It's so much work for one day! I'm sure when I have kids it will be more exciting to me again.

We celebrate Chanuka and Christmas....Chanuka starts the night before Thanksgiving. *That* is way too early for me. I have not even started thinking about shopping yet.

It does?? I had no idea! I know it's usually before Christmas but before Thanksgiving is way too early!

I've started my shopping too :thumbsup2 I love, love, love Christmas and would stay decorated every day if I could :rotfl2:

I am putting together a gift card wallet for my Dad for Christmas, since he loves gift cards. So far, I haven't spent one cent - they've all been rewards cards :thumbsup2

Hope you all hit some awesome sales!!

Oh, and my gift from my mom is coming early - Nov 5th. Going to another Bon Jovi concert. Yay!! I went in July and it was so great (and he is soooo cute) that I have to go again!!

Chanukah does come early this year, one good thing is you will have some time between the two Holidays. :upsidedow

I never have had a problem buying for my Mom or Sisters, I just go shopping and buy what I would want. :rotfl:

Last year I made a note of everything my Mother said she needed during the year. Some items were very small and inexpensive, other things a little more as she opened each gift she would say "I really needed this." (DUH) Yet when asked what she would like for Christmas she would say "I really don't need anything."

It's great that YNAB has helped, it will be so much easier shopping when you know you have already saved the money and that it is part of the budget. :thumbsup2

My mom says the same as yours :confused3 It drives me crazy! Used to, she would shop for herself on black Friday with me and end up buying items I already had gotten her, so I would have to tell her not to buy anything. Then I got so mad that I told her I wouldn't tell her anymore and if she ended up with duplicates that was her problem!!
My dad on the other hand, you never have to worry about him because he doesn't like to spend his money :lmao: Hmm... it's ashame I didn't take after him in the beginning, then I would've never ended up in the debt that I did:rotfl2:

Cute idea for the gift cards ::yes:: and using your rewards even better.

As for your Christmas Gift...BON JOVI... :hyper:

Jon Bon Jovi has to be one of the most beautiful people on earth, while I do enjoy their music...I LOVE WATCHING HIM.

So true...I wouldn't have been in half as much debt if I didn't go CRAZY at Christmas. The last few years I have done great no new debt afterwards.

One year I actually slept at WALMART Aisle # 22, I was in line for over 36 hours to make sure I got the new X-Box that year. (I GOT IT) ::yes::

I have to agree, he is gorgeous! LOL. I love his smile :lovestruc I would love to have him under my tree Christmas morning :lmao:

How sad is it that I plan on rearranging my vacation fund and his concerts are top of the list?

The 19 people I listed are my immediate family, I actually have family (Sisters, nieces and nephews) that live out of state that I no longer buy presents for. I never was blessed with my own children so my nieces and nephews are like my children.

I also let my DH buy for his side of the family in Mississippi. (I help)
