Monday the first FULL Day

Participants:

Me: DW, Mommy, 38, Disney Addicted since childhood.
DH DH, Daddy, 38, Disney Impaired, but tolerates our addiction
DS DS, 6, is becoming a little addict just like his mom.

Our plan today was to AVOID MK because it was Martin Luther King day, last day of a long holiday weekend, and the beginning of the week. I just figured MK would be PACKED. We were also avoiding AK, as we have PS tomorrow (Tuesday) for Donald’s Breakfastosaurus and would stay in the park after breakfast. So it was between MGM and EPCOT, DS flipped a coin, and the decision was made. MGM was the winner!

We woke up around 8 or so, and decided we would not be RUSH RUSH RUSHING to get places, so we ate breakfast and got ready for the day, and hopped in the rental around 9:15 or so. Got to MGM no problem, parked, and got on our first ride of the day. The parking lot TRAMS. There was a WDW executive from their training department who was just riding the tram, and speaking with guests. Especially the children. He struck up a conversation with DS, and we had a nice chat with him. He gave DS a small Mickey Head shaped pin with the Stars and Stripes on it, as a thank you for talking with him. Kind of a neat interaction, and a nice way to start the day.

We get through bag check, through the turnstyles, and head down to RnR and ToT. DS and I don’t ride either, but DH does. He gets a Fastpass for ToT and heads to RnR. The coaster is about a 15 minute wait, so by the time he gets through that, it will be time for his ToT Fastpass. Then, while he was on RnR, I put my AP in, and get him a Fastpass for RnR, so if he wants to ride again, he can. And he did.

The day was overcast, and threatening rain all day, but we had our trusty dusty ponchos and carried on. With the 2 thrill rides done, we decide to head to MuppetVision. Last year, DS was VERY timid with trying new stuff, and watched all the 3-D movies without the glasses. This year, he was READY. Glasses on, and he just laughed and laughed through the entire movie. Those deep down belly laughs. What a great sound. After the movie we were starting to wilt a little, so we grabbed everyone’s favorite WDW snack. A Mickey Bar!!!!

After our little treat break, we make our way to the Indiana Jones stunt spectacular. This is another triumph over last year. DS hear the explosions last year, and wanted NO PART of it. I think we saw it 3 times this trip. What an amazing difference just one year makes. He loved this show. The acrobats, stunt men, explosions, etc. Right up the alley for your typical 6 year old boy.

After Indy, the skies opened up and we sought some shelter. Under the Big Hat, where DS engaged in some pin trading, and bought a new one with his very own money. We hung around a bit, got some lunch (so memorable I forget where we ate!) and waited out the rain. After the rain, we went over to the Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground, and let DS blow off some steam. Well worth the time.

Next up was WWTBAM—Who would have EVER thought that DS would LOVE this so much? He had such a good time playing along, and pushing the buttons. And was so excited that he knew some of the answers on his own.

The day was winding down for us, at MGM, and we decided to head back to the cabin, grab a quick dinner, and a bit of a rest, and then scoot out to EPCOT for Illuminations.

We stopped first at Spaceship Earth (another ride DS would not do last year) and rode that, it was a walk on. Then we went to Ellen’s Energy Adventure. Again, this is something DS would not try last year, and this year, he just loved it.

We had pulled DS out of school for this trip (with his teacher’s and principal’s blessing and approval) but he did have a couple of tasks. One was to write a travel journal, that he would have to read to his class when he returned. We incorporated that with his EPCOT Mask, and Passport that he also brought to school with him, and talked a bit about the countries. DS is a pretty shy kid until he warms up, so getting him to chat with the CMs in World Showcase was tough, but he really started to enjoy it. Especially the CM in the UK. She was a lovely, older woman from Scotland. DS has a Scottish name, and normally, when he tells people his name, they ask him how to spell it. He started to tell her how to spell it, and she stopped him in his tracks. “Now you just wait once minute, young Mister, I am Scots, and I KNOW how to spell that!” Then she winked at him and gave him a squeeze around his shoulders. She was a doll!!!

We strolled around World Showcase and started looking for a good spot for Illuminations. We found a great location between the American Adventure and Italy. As always Illuminations was great. We waited out some of the crowds and made our way back to the front of the park, and off to the car.

Back to the cabin, and to bed.

Tomorrow….we see a duck about breakfast

Thanks Deb! I'm really enjoying your reports!

Great report ~ Thanx for sharing.

Enjoying your report! Thanks for posting.

Sounds like a fun filled day!
I totally agree about Indiana Jones. My DSs think this is such a hoot... People getting punched, falling down, explosions, all sorts of fun stuff. ;)

Hey Debbie, sounds like your first full day was a blast! I'm glad that the loud noises from the Indiana Jones shows didn't bother your son's ears! My nephew came down with an ear infection on his first trip to Disney, and found that most everything we did was too loud for him.

Can't wait to read your next installment!
