Debit cards

I'm trying to decide how much cash to take with us. Can you use debit cards at the gift shop and "fast food" restaurants? What places are cash only?

I was able to use my debit card as a visa at most locations, the food carts sometimes were cash only, but I do not know if I entered a PIN anywhere.

Most debit cards act as credit cards and therefore can be used anywhere a cc is used. Above poster is correct, you cannot use it for side vendors like ice cream, soda, water and snack vendors.

At DVC and in most resorts there are ATM machines, or simply use your KTTW card and pay by debit card at check out.

Actually, as of this year you can use them at virtually every spot in the World. They had to add electronic payment machines (wireless) because of the dining plan and snack options, which means they also take debit cards.

However, keep in mind that they will always be used as credit cards - no PINs at WDW unless you use an ATM. A member of my party thought they'd be able to use their PIN to get cashback like you can at some places (gas station, grocery store, post office, etc.) thinking that it was inherent in their card. Of course, it is not, and depends on where you use it. AFAIK, no place at Disney does that.

That said, I LIVE off my debit card, at WDW and elsewhere. I never had a problem using it anywhere.
