Debbie Meyer Green bags??

In another forum I posted a much better use for them, but it's not DIS appropriate. Use your imagination.

I've had them for several months now, and love them! I used to throw out a shameful amount of lettuce, grapes, and bananas, but now they stay fresh way past the time we use them up. You do have to make sure to wipe out excess moisture though. Interesting tip about the ziplocks though. I may run an experiment, put bananas in each & see which one lasts longer.

I'll let you all know how that works out!

I just completed my own test. I bought a 10 pound bag of carrots, and when I opened them up it was actually 2 5 pound bags . I left one bag of carrot alone, and shifted the other 5 pounds into a Debbie Meyers green bag. I put them side by side into a cold room, and left them for about 6 weeks. The Debbie Meyer carrots are in better shape than the ones in the store bag.

I wasn't a fan of the Green Bags. I bought a set and split it with my mother. She wasn't a fan either. Really, how can you misuse a plastic bag other than putting it over your head.

I have found the Rubbermaid produce savers work well:

I have used these for fresh leaf lettuce and all sorts of berries. I can get a few extra days using these. The only drawback is that all the containers are square and I would like something I could use for celery.

I bought the Debbie Meyer bags for bread.

My son eats the same lunch everyday for school--a turkey sandwich on these "Ranch Rolls" that our grocery store bakes daily. They come in their own bag and are horribly stale within 3 days as there are no preservatives in them. I need them to last a week.

So I put them in this green bag and they actually make it through until Friday.

So, yep, they work for me.

I have never used the bags I just wanted to mention a tip for lettuce. This is from my MIL just add a piece of paper towel to your zip lock bag with your lettuce. It does make it last way longer than without. Has anyone else done this?

I do this with Romaine, and it wicks away moisture making it stay fresh longer. I freeze my bread and it is always fresh when I take out what I need. Slices thaw in a couple of minutes.
