Debate - when should a crying child be taken out of a show/meal/attraction?

When should a parent remove their baby from a show/attraction/meal?

  • Never, they paid good money to be there.

  • In the first few minutes of crying or tantrum.

  • After someone has complained to you or a castmember.

  • Why the heck would you bring a baby to Disney?

........We were seeing the stage show of Aladdin a baby started crying with the first loud noise, and continued to cryfor most of the performance. We went back a few days later to catch the show again and a toddler was kicking my sons seat for most of the performance.

We met with the same at sit down resturants as well.

I feel it is rude to keep a screaming baby or a toddler with a tantrum in such areas.

Disney obvously has families in mind, but when is enough - enough?
I personally believe that enough is already too much and not enough is done about it.

As previously expressed by others in this thread, this is not just limited to Disney visits. I love babies and toddlers, absolutely adore them. However, some parents just don't seem to know how to be parents. Little ones get tired and hungry and wet and then express their discomforts in the only way they know how... by making noise - some louder than others. How the parents respond to their children at times like this speaks volumes greater than any noise the child may be making.

I've been seeing this "Ignore My Child Screaming" phenomenon more and more in so many different places with rapid increasing frequency and particularly so in two local churches that I visit - even though both churches have "crying rooms" -- a place where parents can take the fussy child and still hear and see what is going on at Mass but the rest of the congregation cannot hear what is going on with the child.

The previously mentioned House of Worship incident was interesting to me in that poster said the ex-Catholic-turned-Lutheran converts loved it when the pastor would stop his sermon until something was done with the crying child. Catholic Priests around my area in this decade NEVER would stop his homily because of a crying child. It seems to me that no one in the Catholic Church, especially the Priests, wants to offend young (or older) parents by gently reminding them even BEFORE an incident happens that we have "crying rooms" to remove a child to. I have never been close enough to an offending parent to ask him to remove his/her screaming child to a crying room and, quite frankly, I would probably wimp out myself and not do it, but I am coming very close to writing a letter to the two pastors of the two parishes I frequent to suggest that they have an usher go to these people who insist on keeping the screaming child in the middle of church during Mass.

Please be clear that I am referring to small babies and toddlers who are SCREAMING. I can easily tolerate little murmurs and occasional soft talking, laughter and even out-of-place singing/humming of children. It is when the child is obviously having major discomfort or annoyance about something, no matter if it is at a church, restaurant, show, or even the mall, and the parent totally ignores the child that really bugs the hell out of me!

As a previous poster also pointed out, removing my child from situations when he was acting inappropriately was something I did out of courtesy to others and I just wish that ALL parents would think to extend others this same courtesy.

Thank you for allowing me to vent about this subject.

RIGHT AWAY. I can't stand crying babies, or even kids in general. Not to mention, like the poll says, I can't figure out why someone would take a baby to WDW. It's not like they're going to remember anything, and they're just a pain to lug around.

Perhaps people take their babies because they would like to continue to live their life after children. I traveled once with my oldest when he was six months old. My husband was out of the country and my dad had a heart attack. Did I want to go on a six hour flight with a baby? Nooooo. I had no choice. He, by the way, was an angel. He was still nursing, and that got him through take-offs and landings.

We went to Disney when he was a mere 5 weeks old. It was winter, and I had a bout of PP depression. I NEEDED to get away, and my sweet DH told me we could go whereever I wanted! David doesnt remember that trip, but I do. It was the turning point for us. And, no, he was not a pain to lug around. He weighed in at ten pounds and was a joy.

So before you start jumping all over other's when they are NOT violating your peace, think about cutting some slack. We all do our best, and yes, I do take my kids out at thefirst sign of trouble. I cannot enjoy anything when I know they are disturbing others.

Pugdog, I didn't fly southwest, and used only one seat!;) Sorry about your inconvenience on your trip.
