Debate? Should 22 month olds be "lap babies in First Class?

Gotta credit that one to my husband. I was too appalled that she'd tell us 'too bad' about the carseat when they want you to purchase a seat and restrain them to even respond.

Also, I have flown alone with Madison many times, and while it's obviously doable, it is not that easy so I certainly wouldn't tell others what they should do. The cheap umbrella stroller would not work for us as there's no way our daughter would be comfortable in it at our destination, nor would my husband push it (well he would, but he'd complain the whole trip about how hard it is to push/steer). We take a very small stroller, a Maclaren Techno, but we put it in a bag to protect it from damage. As a result it is never there waiting for us when we deplane, we generally have to tell the pilot and he goes down to get it. Or it's sent down to the oversize baggage area, which is no help to us when we have a connection. Or, like our April Disney trip, the airline forgets to load our stroller on and has to fly it on another airline to meet us in our final destination. After these incidents I would never bank on having the stroller available to hustle to a connection.

Good point. I ONLY take the cheap umbrella stroller when we are going to visit Grandma who has her own stroller. This is 75% of our travel, so that is what is burned into my memory. Going to WDW or elsewhere we use a bigger stroller. I have to have the stroller to get from one gate to the next alone with two kids, especially if I bring the carseat. I'd never be able to carry my carry-on, the carseat, and keep an eye on my kids. Carrying the carseat on my back and pushing dd2 it is hard enough to see ds6 and be sure I am not whacking someone in the face with it. :earseek:

I didn't even know until November that animals were allowed in the cabin! I thought they had to be in cargo. This woman told me that Spirit allows 2 animals per flight. If they are in the cabin, they must be in a carrier and must have a ticket. She was in first class, so maybe I just assumed that it had to be first class.

I have flown my bird a few times when it would be cheaper to take him with me than to hire a sitter. Not sure if the policy has changed, but it would cost me $50 each way to bring him and he had to be in a carrier that would fit under my seat.

I agree with those who say babies and toddlers should have their own seat for safety reasons.

I used a standard luggage cart to haul my car seat all around the airport. I just bungied in onto the cart and pulled it behind me. Believe me, people felt really sorry for me when I changed planes (we live in Madison and always change planes) with my carry-on, pushing an almost 2 year old in her stroller and pulling the car seat behind me.

I never paid for a seat (expect international travel when they made you pay some taxes) when my DD was less than 2 years old. I would put her car seat in a bag and gate-check it if the gate agent couldn't find an extra seat (two together) for my DD and me. I think that only happened once or twice, but that was in the early 2000's when people were afraid to fly.
