Ugh, just ran the gauntlet of protestors to leave work. I think this is evidence of a major way our society is screwed up. There a truck and signboards out there with huge, graphic, bloody representations of very late term abortions. I asked the police there if this was not against public obsenity laws, but no, it's free speech. I wonder, however, if I were to just stand next to them with my shirt off, how quickly someone would be arrested (hint, not them). Totally screwed up.

Just to be clear, I'm pretty pro choice. But honestly, I'd be just as p.o'd if some group were showing graphic pictures of home abortions and dead women. It's not the way to have any sort of discourse, and is just meant to be inflammatory.

Im Pro-life but I would NEVER condone that sort of behavior.

I was always told you can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. Shocking people and scaring them is not the way to get them to listen to your side. I dont understand fanatics on either side. If we could all just sit down and have reasonable conversations maybe we could all learn a lot. :)

I always assume that "regular" people who oppose abortions, are just as horrified by these tactics as we are. Certainly when someone who is on "my side" goes way overboard, I cringe.

sorry, completely off topic, but I have to share....while proofreading this post I noticed that I had left out every single "w"...for just a second I thought my keyboard had become partisan...tuned out to be something stuck under the key LOL

I'm against abortion and I would never think this kind of stuff was acceptable.

People who do things like this just come across as fringe lunatics, IMO. They are not making anyone think critically. They are just making people think they are loons.

There is never an excuse or reason to show extremely graphic stuff or use extremly foul language in public.

Nice to hear that from folks here.

I have to add too, that I can't beleve that they are doing this right next to a children's hospital! It's a mobile protest van. I first noticed it two days ago, because they were driving right by the hospital, blaring their horn. You could see everything right from the windows. If we could see it so easily, I wonder how many sick kids did. Today they are parked outside, which is why I had to pass them.

There is a woman's clinic that I pass on my way to work, and one of the many functions it performs is abortions.

On Tuesdays and Saturdays, the people are there with their pictures of bloody fetuses, yelling things at the women as they go in. The problem is, since the center performs more services than just abortions, these protestors are impinging on women's rights to access health care, but no one seems to care about that.

I also love how the majority of the protestors (at least at the clinic near me) are elderly men.

I have always felt that helping women who are pregnant figure out ways to keep their baby so they don't go to abortion as a "last resort" is a much better idea. My late MIL did this...volunteered her time at a home for unwed mothers, supporting them through their pregnancies, so they didn't have to choose abortion. She was an obstetrics nurse by profession, so maybe that gave her better insight.

Most of the protestors, I'm sure, go to the Tuesday/Saturday protest and leave, very self-satisified, that they have done their bit for humanity for the week.

Maybe it'll get them a better seat in Heaven;) .

I really have a problem with these kind of people. They do it around here, once they did it outside one of the public schools. So all of these children had to look at these horrible bloody pictures, and mom had to explain it to them. Which is what the protestors said they wanted all along. The end justifies the means...

IMO, the cause looses a lot of credibility when the members go to such extremes. As Disney Doll stated, they would do much better work by helping unwed mothers than to stand outside looking like a bunch of lunatics..

Wow that is so sad.

I am pro-life and believe that love and compassion is the way to go, not hatred.

I dislike people who do the things that you mentioned because it makes it seem as if all pro-life people are that way. And I promise you, we are not.

Same thing happens at the end of my street twice a week.
Several police cruisers, over a hundred protesters trying to
block access to the clinic with huge signs picturing aborted
fetuses(so they proclaim). The same clinic was bombed a few
years ago, the blast happened just as DH and I were driving
up our street with a friend. We were scared to death. The
police and several clinic workers with Tshirts saying "clinic
employee" guide people past this group. I'm worried that one
of these fanatics will hurt someone someday. I totally support
their right to free speech but they block clinic sidewalks and
deny patients access. Sometimes the police haul them off in
paddywagons. They just call in more people.

One day I was leaving work and exited the building to find those pictures. There was one every block or so almost my whole way to the train station. Lovely...
