Death & Rescheduling?

have you reached your 45 day window? I do not know what Disney will do but I think the cost of a change after the 45 day window is $75.00 to $200.00. Of course if you do change it will also involve paying more for any increase in the cost of the package. And you may not be able to get the same resort. Keep trying to call. Mondays are bad in the morning. Try later in the afternoon or early evening.

Sorry about your Mother in Law.

Sorry that you are going through this. Disney is VERY accomadating. You should have NO problem rescheduling without losing any money.

I don't have exact experience with cancelling, but my family had a similar situation. My uncle had a heart attack and had additional complications which put him in serious condition two months before our trip. We decided to wait it out. He had seemed to make some great strides and improvements over the weeks, so my family decided to go. Unfortunately my mom got a call three days into our trip that he had passed while at MK. A cast member saw her upset, and asked if she was ok. When they heard the situation, they arranged for a private shuttle van to pick her up at the bus stop and take her right to her resort. She flew home early ( no flights could accommodate all ten of us, and she insisted we finish our trip). Since she had not used five days on her park ticket my husband and I spoke to guest relations. They were gracious enough to make her four days non expiration, so she can use them on a future trip. Not sure if this helps, but my point being Disney is very understanding of such situations.

From the thread title I was preparing to break it to you that it is pretty difficult to reschedule your death. I mean, unless you're suicidal, in which case time and date are very much under your control.

No, this is a real bummer and there isn't an easy answer; but Disney should work with you to straighten out your plans.

First off, prayers for you and your family. It's not easy losing a loved one.

Disney is very good about rescheduling when a significant life changing event is involved. First, if you are still 45 days out, you can reschedule without any issues. If you are inside the 45 days, there is a $50 fee to change your plans (or at least that's what they quoted me a few months ago). You would need to pay any difference in the package price. Maybe you could reschedule to another FD period. I would keep calling them, but do it as soon as possible as the longer you wait the closer you get to your travel dates and the more pressure there will be. I have called several times to change ressies and move around some times and have never had to wait more than a few minutes. Try different times of the day. Oh! And ask for a manager if the CM seems confused or doesn't agree to the change. They may not have the authority.

Good luck making the changes if you have to.

Forgive me if this sounds insensitive, but are you planning on canceling no matter what? If she passes in the next few days, would you still go?

This is morbid, but in my family, we do a Disney trip after every tragedy. We went after both grandparents passed (once I was a child, once an adult) and it helps to kind of keep things "normal." It might be helpful for your kids.

Good luck.

:rotfl2: Thank you for the laugh!

Actually we couldn't agree with you more! Yes we would still go for sure, we find Disney to be the most therapeutic place on earth. What would be difficult is if she goes right before we go or during our stay because of the funeral & wake.. Life has a funny way of always doing stuff like this to us, not to come across insensitive to my mil's condition, but it wouldn't surprise me if she went while we were down there...

So sorry that your family is going through this. Unfortunately, my family has had an experience with this. Two days before our scheduled trip, my brother in law passed away suddenly. Disney was absolutely wonderful. We called with hopes that they would let us cancel with minimal losses. Disney refunded the entire amount to us, no questions asked. The CM was so understanding and kind.
