Dear Disney Magic:

aloha,
Just remember you get what you pay for. The grass is not alway greener on the otherside.
Sure I can get cheaper cruises than DCL. I find that when you find something that makes you happy I always stick with it. I have never been disappointed on DCL. They make me happy an that's priceless.

hawaiian mickey

No one is going to totally agree one way or another but in our case if it came down to crusing a different line or not cruising at all then we would go with another line. Also since DCL doesn't have too many options on itineraries, and if you cruise often, people often look elsewhere so that they can travel to new places

So far we have cruise on DCL (2x with another coming up), NCL (3x), Carnival (3x), Princess (x1), Holland America (x1) and have enjoyed each cruise. We choose the itinerary we want and then go see who is offering it for the dates we can travel. Then it comes down to price depending on what we can afford

We have had some awesome cruises on other lines as well. Princess was delightful, probably our most relaxing vacation ever. Our family dreams of seeing the world and DCL only visits a small number of places. Sure, we love Mickey but sometimes the grass is greener on the otherside. Larger pools, new ports, anytime dining, and those casinos!!!

Now with that said, I would never ever cruise on another line that would be in port at the same time as DCL. If I heard that horn while I was on another ship, it would kill me!!! :sad2:

I question the original poster's signature where it says this space for rent... sounds like someone who is always looking to get a little extra for nothing.

Unionville...I sse you were on Holland America...How was it? Did you travel with kids? I want to try HA or Celebrity just to check out their service and food.

Keep in mind that we cruised Holland America in Alaska. We travelled Alaska with about 20 family member as we celebrated my aunt and uncles 50th wedding anniversary. We did one of those 2 week land and sea tours. We did the land part first and after experiencing true Alaska and the Yukon (that means some primitive restroom facilities and some interesting reindeer jerky), we felt that we were in heaven once onboard the ship!!! The rooms were nice (our balcony room was comparable to Disney) and service was excellent. You are assigned the same dining room and table each night, but we had a wonderful experience. Since we were in Alaska, there were of course lots of senior citizens. Apparently most young families tend to take the small fortune it takes to travel to Alaska and spend on other things. My son was 7 and my neices were 9 and 13. They had more fun than any of us and beg to go back to Alaska! My son went to the kids club any chance he got. There was other kids on board. They did awesome crafts, build-a-moose, made t-shirts, had a pirate party, disco, etc.... While in glacier bay, a park ranger came into the club and only talked to them. The pool had a retractable top which was awesome no matter what the weather. Of course, no slide. During one of our days at sea, they had a salmon bake right out by the pool. It was yummy! Holland America seemed much more "grown up" than Disney. As for food, we feel that all cruise food is prepared in mass quantity no matter what the line. So, I can't really comment on a difference. The best part of cruising is Holland America is that you can go to the gift shop and check out all of the "dam" boat souvenirs. My husband and I still giggle when we talk about our "dam" cruise. I wouldn't hesitate to cruise Holland America again. I think they have a new ship that is coming out (or maybe already out). They are a classy line. I'm sure the Caribbean cruises that Holland America offers are more family oriented during the summer and holidays. My 8 year old son is more into action activities so we are now looking at Royal Caribbean. We love Princess (probably our best cruise experience ever), but their pools don't have slides or waterparks either. Disney pools are way too small for him once he has been on newer boats. I hung out on the Holland America board of cruise critic as we prepared for our experience. I have also heard wonderful things about Celebrity.

My son is wanting another cruise...a longer cruise.... Would like to check out Carnival's Dream that's coming to PC next year .... has a waterpark on it? :thumbsup2

lol....that's sort of like cheating on Jessica Alba with Rosie O'Donnell and then bragging about it. :rotfl:

:rotfl2: I agree. I have sailed Carnival 3x--never again. RCCL would have been a better choice. I have sailed with them 4x. DCL is my choice for my family's vacation. We have sailed with Disney 2x so far. I would not want to go from sailing on DCL to Carnival.

I didn't know it had a waterpark on it. I have my eye on the Carnival Dream also.

Best line I have heard in a long time! :rotfl2:

Very rarely do I actually lol, but you had me lol'ing.

That said, I never in a million years thought my family would ever do a cruise. Why, you ask? We have just always "heard" (you know how that goes) that some cruise lines are a little iffy, and that one cruise line in particular, is not reliable and its employess are a smidgen seedy.

Then, the Mouse threw its hat into the cruising ring, and we also had close family of ours do a cruise on a different line and they had a blast, so now we have this option.

I will NEVER sail with the seedy cruise line. Ever.

My prior cruising experience is limited to 3-day weekend Baja California jaunts (so-called party cruises) and I found Carnival to be VASTLY superior to Royal Caribbean. I expected the opposite, but I've sailed each twice and had exactly the same experience. The Carnival Paradise had better food, better service, and better entertainment. The only place I would give the nod to RCCL's Monarch of the Seas would be in stateroom accommodations, and even then just *barely*.

Looking forward to sailing the Magic in September and seeing how a *real* cruise ship does it. ;)

This may be a bad time to ask, but is it true that Carnival is the Wal-Mart of cruising? :D

*ducks and flees!*

IMO yes. No offense to Wal-Mart ;) I actually kinda like Wal-Mart.

I have cruised 9 times--only once on an older ship the Carnival Fantasy. That Carnival ship was actually my best Carnival cruise as far as service. I have cruised on all new and large ships. I sailed Carnival 2x in the Med on brand new ships. Carnival for me was just below standard. Everyone's standards are different. My 4 RCCL cruises were all wonderful. With the Mariner being my fav of the 4. I look forward to sailing on the Indie in November. But, I just won't give Carnival anymore of my money. I would rather cruise less if it came to that.

We have sailed on Carnival once (chose not to take our child with us) and have friends that have sailed with them several times. We had a nice cruise but have decided that we prefer a different level of service and atmosphere. You know, I shop at Walmart now and then. If that's the only way I could afford to cruise, I would probably be right back on Carnival (although I would make sure it was a longer cruise and a newer ship). Hey, I could probably afford a suite on Carnival. Now if I could just convince my husband .....:confused3
