I am writing to tell you I have found another. I did enjoy our special time together when we went to the Western Caribbean, and I will cherish the memory. Don't take this wrong, But I have booked a trip with another cruise line. I know you share space with this ship in Port Canaveral and she is moored right next to you. You are beautiful with your Black, Yellow and Red Colors but I feel going with a nice clean White looking vessel.
I will be going wih my new friend Glory to the Eastern Carribean. I know you will go on seeing other eople and locations.
You do provide excellent service, food, atmosphere but you have grown out of my budget.
I will miss you and will wave when I see you at the different ports

When they were chosing the colors black looked to harsh so a very dark navy blue is used. It's very difficult to tell the difference.

We too almost found another.

She too sails out of Port Canaveral in August 2009.

But after comparing the two, Disney came through with the better price and cabin category. So for now I am free of the Freedom and anticipating the magic of the Magic.

Yes, they wanted to use black to match Mickey Mouse, however the reason black was not used was not because it was to harsh, simply it is against International Maritime Law. Therefore Disney went with the darkest blue they could get away with.

The story as told by the imagineers is that when trying to come up with the color, they saw a lady in their office with a sweater on that was the exact color they wanted. They took her sweater and got a color match and to this day, the color is <HerName> Blue. I think it's Debbie Blue but could be wrong on the name. They also tell this story in the 'Art of the Theme Show Ship Tour' on the sea day of the 4-night cruises.

That's because there is no difference between black and whatever color they're deciding to call it. They just try to make the story with the colors more interesting....sort of like the line about needing permission to make the lifeboats the shade of yellow that they are.

The 'line' about the lifeboats is also true. My father worked in the maritime industry for 20 years after serving 25 in the Navy and it is true. International Maritime Law required lifeboats to be orange. Disney had to conduct many trials and studies and prove to the US Cost Guard along with with many other international maritime authorities to get the yellow approved. It's fact, not a 'line.'

Just remember you get what you pay for. The grass is not alway greener on the otherside.
Sure I can get cheaper cruises than DCL. I find that when you find something that makes you happy I always stick with it. I have never been disappointed on DCL. They make me happy an that's priceless.

I agree that you get what you pay for, but I've also sailed with Royal Caribbean, and we got REALLY great service. It was a very affordable vacation -- not to mention, one of the best we've ever taken. Although Disney definitely knows how to do things right, there are others out there too that are more affordable and really impressive, as well. Not everyone can afford a Disney vacation every, single time.

I hope you have a wonderful trip! I am guessing that, because of the price, our upcoming Disney cruise may be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for us, but I sure look forward to dealing with more affordable cruiselines in the future, as well!

Actually, the "color" in question is called "MONICA BLUE".
We learned this on a DCL ship tour on board.
This is paraphrased of course. Here is how it came to be...
The imagineers were looking for the perfect color for the outside of the ship. A cast member walked in with pants (I think) that were this "dark black blue" color. Her name was Monica. They said "That's the color we want!".
So...Disney re-created the special color and called it "Monica Blue". It is a unique color Disney makes.
It pays to take those ship tours-LOL

I've never found anything to substantiate the story about the life boats. In fact, it's quite easy to search around on the internet and find pictures of life boats in yellow which pre-date the Magic. Was reading another thread here the other day and wound up looking at many pictures of "The Big Red Boat" and it's life boats were white.
