Deals, discounts, and coupon codes

Photography Monthly is giving away a free Gorillapod SLR with each new subscription paid with UK Direct Debit (though I don't know exactly what that is, I doubt that it ruins the deal ;) ).

Cost is 39 pounds for 12 issues. No free gift for overseas subscriptions though :sad1: . I've been buying this magazine more frequently lately. I should just pony up the dough and get a subscription even without the Gorillapod.

Thanks for the heads up on this! This isnt a magazine Ive come across before, but its basically "free" if you factor in the Gorilla Pod gift, so I think I might take the plunge!

Would like to know if anyone takes this up because I am sure (but happy to be wrong) that the offer is published in the latest edition of the mag but has * against the offer. when you read down the page it states you have to subscribe for two years @ £39 a year for the free gorilla pod. However the link does not seem do indicate this in anyway :confused3

You're correct--my copy of the mag requires a 2 year subscription (at a total of 75 pounds) to get the Gorillapod, but I don't see that on the website. Still a good deal, but if you can get the pod with the one year subscription, you're basically getting one of them for free.

For anyone who may be interested in the Rebel XTi, I just picked up the kit (w 18-55 lens) for $698 shipped. There is a 20% off coupon that is only good on the kit that expires tonight.

The body only is on sale for $679.

I Hope This Can Help Someone :)

I am not interested, but I do not see where you said where. With a coupon, my guess is Dell.

Kevin

Yes, it is at Dell (sorry, I should've posted that - typical Monday morning  )

Thanks Kevin :)

The only downside is that Dell doesn't exactly have a sterling reputation as a place to buy this kind of thing... but if you can get it for 20% off $700, that's probably about as cheap as you'll find it.

Would you get the warranty if buying through Dell, or not? I am thinking of buying the S3 from Dell for 298$.

Thanks,
Nicole

A friend likes my photos and is interested in getting a Canon s3 as well - she just sent me this link - the price looks great - is this price/place too good to be true?

http://www.goodguysphoto.com/store/...x-Optical-4x-Digital-Zoom-Digital-Camera.aspx

I did notice the prices of stuff like memory cards, cases, batteries were super high - but this price - for just the camera - is great!

If not - any places you recommend??

I'd be hesitant to order from an online retailer that I couldn't find on ResellerRatings.com ... a lot of these places are real rip-offs.

What these scam-sellers do is take your order over the phone/Internet, and then call you back and high-pressure-sell you on accessories you don't need (or that should already be included in the package), and if you won't buy the high-priced extras, they'll just cancel your order and hang up on you.

Sometimes, they're selling "grey market" equipment that doesn't have a warranty, too.

I've got no proof that these guys aren't legit, but since you mentioned the high prices of other items and a low price on the camera some alarm bells are going off in my head.

They've got a pretty web site with lots of "100% guarantees" thrown around, but building a web site is really easy. Also, on their website, this doesn't look too good:

# For your protection and due to frequent changing in availability, all orders that are submitted to us through our website are subjected to a thorough verification procedure before shipping. This process includes contacting you via telephone or email to verify your order and delivery information. Please be sure to include a phone number and email address so that we can contact you if necessary. After an order is fully confirmed by phone or via internet, canceling the order may not be possible and is subject to 15% processing fee.

BuyDig's got the S3 for $283.49 and BeachCamera has it for $284.69 ... both are far more reputable retailers. Many DISers have bought from them (not me, though, so this isn't 1st hand experience talking! :) )

S3 at BuyDig

S3 at BeachCamera

The difference is only $30 (and only a dollar between them), and I doubt you'd actually get away with that price from the "Good Guys" after the "verification" call.

And lets not forget that buydig/Beachcamera do not charge sales tax and they give free shipping on most items. So even if they honored that price, one might actually pay more @ goodguysphoto.

Looks like a decent deal. The real question is will it hold the camera you'll be putting on it? There is no details on that........

The comments/questions say it's like the P&S version, so no. :(

I know DealExtreme sells a larger version for about 13 bucks, IMO it would be a better purchase.
