I was running out of room on my computer and Photoshop was really getting dog slow. I told my wife I thought maybe it was time to get a couple of things and upgrade. Trina gave me the go ahead and I did a little comparison shopping and placed an order. Next thing I know Fed Ex, UPS, DHL, and the post office were at my door and I had this waiting for me.

If you are looking for hard disk space try NewEgg or Outpost. I found 320GB SATA II drives for $94 and 400GB drives for $129. Of course I had a lot of explaining to do as to how a couple of things morphed into a pile over four feet high and I still have not come up with a good justification for LED lights that flash to the sounds of iTunes. I tried explaining that they were safety lights for when I work late and don't want to trip in the dark but she didn't buy that. You know, sleeping on the couch is an awful lot like camping without the bugs.

when you need more storage let me know I can give you a location to get 250 gig for 89,

also, what type of head does your monopod have..??

I had one that just had the screw on top, then one that had a small tripod head, with lever, I bought a small ball head and it's much easier to use,, I can give you a good lead on an inexpensive ball head also..

It has a ball head on it....

Cool - I will keep that in mind for the storage.

:lmao: You are too funny Martha. But hey, each time I go into Best Buy or Circuit City I always check out the other camera's too.

As long as I look and don't get tempted to buy YET. I really want to wait for a few more months. I like that instant click of the shutter when you snap a picture---- sweet!

OKAY - maybe not so good a buy.... oh well....

HAHAHA Az are you still married after that "few" thing upgrade? :)

LOL

I think Jeffs drives are internal, they are always cheaper than external..

and online is much cheaper than in a local store..

Oh my goodness, Jeff! :lmao: My photoshop is running dog slow too. Which of those items is supposed to help that? Maybe I can get a small pile to show up at my house too! :rotfl: I think a new computer might just be cheaper for me!

I could use some info on a good external hard drive, Mickey88. I am assuming that is a good option for backing up an entire hard drive, as well as a place to store my photo files?

I thought that I recognized some of them as internal. I know that online is cheaper, but sometimes I need immediate gratification when I am shopping!!! You don't know how hard it was when I ordered my camera to wait 2 days for it!!! I paid extra to have it overnighted... when 2nd day air was FREE!

I have been working on this project to get my pics off my computers, and organized for a while now. I have two home computers and a business laptop that all had pics downloaded, so I needed to consolidate into one place that I can utilize on all!!! I just wanted it DONE! Sometimes I get overwhelmed on line as well - there is just too much stuff!!!

:rotfl: :rotfl: i know how you must feel though...when ups guy knows me by sight, i've bought toooo much :rotfl: so i switched to little things, like filters, off ebay...ssshhhhh

Than an external 2.0 USB hard drive is perfect for you. Keep the pics on the external drive. (as well as backed up on cd/dvd) and you can use the external drive on any computer at any time. 2.0 USB drives rock. I have 5 on my computer now as well as a 4 port hub that sits on the desk.

But at least you get to sleep next to your new toys!!!

And I don't have to worry about being afraid of the dark because I always have that blue night light glowing in the corner.

I do have to admit the lights are a little bright. I didn't realize that until I turned it on and got a call from the neighbor across the street wanting to know if everything was ok because he saw a blue flash coming from our living room.

The drives quoted were internal but I also purchased an external exclosure for $35 that would do USB 2.0 and eSATA so as I find higher capacity drives at at killer deal I can swap them to the enclosure for instant capacity. But then I am kind of a geeky dude so not everyone likes to build their own drives.

And in case anyone is interested, there is a 4GB memory limit for Windows XP Pro (including the paging file) and there is a 2 terabyte limit on a single hard drive array so there are limits to the madness.

Unless you live near a Frys.

They run ads like this in the LAtime every WED. FRI. SAT. SUN. MON

 Is there a computer board on the DIS? I can't figure this info out. :scratchin Well, except that Frye's has some awesome deals and we need a location in St Louis!

The Tech board is your best bet for computer questions. Frys Electronics has an online store as well. It is outpost.com.

Jeff

Cool - thanks for the link Jeff!

I don't have anybody to get mad at me if I order all kinds "toys"... except DD and the cats and dogs when I can't afford to buy them food!

Thanks, Jeff! I figured the Tech board was for questions about technical difficulties with the boards, not necessarily computer questions. :)

More memory is good. then check the video card for speed and its own memory size. Then the hard drive speed. Dual hard drives is good. Windowas runs on one and PS on another. Then check the proces. Of course you can change that order.
Pasmark has a demo test you can run for benchmarking your system before and after any upgrades.
