Am going tomorrow on a free pass and don't usually shop there. what are good deals? I know the bulk buying sometimes isn't. TIA.

I always buy:

Milk 2.19 gallon
eggs 2.29 for 2 dozen
yogurt 8.99 for 24 Dannon drinkables
bananas 1.39 or 1.59 for 2 lbs
strawberries 3.99 for 2 lbs
capri sun juice boxes 7.19 or 7.59 for 40
barrel of pretzels 6.49 Snyders snaps
macaroni and cheese 5.99 box of 18 or 24 Kraft quick packs
macaroni and cheese crackers 5.59 for 3 boxes
5 lbs of apples 5.99
lettuce .99 cents
2 lbs quick oatmeal 5.49

Don't forget to look for in-store coupons available when you walk in. Happy shopping!

If you buy bottled water, BJs has some of the best prices on bottled water I have seen. Deer Park 36 packs are only $3.99 here at BJs.
I also get the Horizon milks (individual) boxes there.
Many of their groceries are priced lower than Sams too (fresh, frozen and boxed.)

Don't forget to check the metal cart near the entrance for the coupon sheets. Also, ask customer service if they have a coupon book. Sometimes they have extras of the ones that are mailed out with awesome coupons in it.

The items I find for good prices...
Detergent (it is hard to find HE detergent cheaper in the grocery store)
Deli meats (especially Land O Lakes American Cheese)
Meats
Seafood
fruit juice
eggs
anything with a BJs coupon
sunblock
bugspray
clothes (tshirts, socks, bathing suits)
paper products (paper towels, tp)
strawberries
bananas
almost all produce but not always
ice cream
frozen foods (pizza, chicken nuggets, etc)

I find that not everything is a good deal but rarely do I pay much more than a grocery store and usually pay less. I only go to the grocery store about one a month to find items that I cannot get at BJs. Truthfully I save enough on deli meat and strawberries to pay for my membership. Everything else is just a plus.

Love the recommendations. My fear is I will wander around for hours filling my cart. LOL.

They take manufacturer coupons and you can combine them with a BJ's coupon. Also if the multi pack has individual UPC's you can use more than one mfr. coupon for it :thumbsup2

Milk
Bread- I buy the Arnold White
and I do LOVE their Mozzarella balls but I don't know how cheap they are.

And my boys LOVE the entemann's Pound cake singles they sell in a box- it's cheaper than me buying them one at a time at the bagel store. :confused3

It's no where near as tempting as Costco- not as much "stuff".

My favorite deal at BJ's is land o lakes american cheese from the deli.
It is $3.49 at BJ's, and $6.29 at Stop & Shop down the road. Needless to say, I always buy 2 or 3 pounds of it when I go to BJs.

My other favorite thing is the rotisserie chickens. They are less expensive than Stop & Shop (about $1.50 less I think) and they are much better tasting.

Just be careful with the pass - some of them charge you a 5% non-member fee on your total bill.

We buy - BJ's brand Matrix hair supplies
glucosomine tablets
BJ's brand Advil
Toothpaste
Tooth brushes
Mitchum Deodorant - his and hers
Razor Blades
coffee
TP, Paper towels
He laundry detergent
Cascade
Paper Plates
Plastic forks, etc
Party napkins
beer/wine

A lot of the items I listed - BJ's sends out coupons for, plus you can use manufacturers coupons. Example last month BJ's had a Schiff Glucosomine coupon for $4 off. Local paper had a coupon for $3 off, BJ's will accept both for. So received $7 off. If your checker questions you on it - ask for a manager.

We always buy the cheese too, we split it into half pounds in freezer bags, mark them and freeze em.

Meat is way more affordable!

We buy 93% ground beef in bulk, then I measure it into 1lb "bricks" I spread it kind of thin to make a 1lb square wrapped in foil then stack them up in a freezer bag and freeze them. My freezer looks weird filled with "meat bricks" as the DF likes to call them, but they defrost super fast and take up less space. I have converted him, and a few friends.

We also buy the perdue bagged chicken tenderloins in bulk they come prepackaged we just toss em in the freezer and thaw when we need them. There is like 5 tenderloins to each little package, you can buy different sized boxes of the little packages.

We also buy cat litter, gatorade and bottled water. Paper towels and toilet paper, if we have one of those excellent coupons.

Wine- my fav is JLohr Chard its 8.99 there, 10.00 at Kappys

never never never buy any condiments in bulk. :)

Razor blades are priced very well
Frozen pizza
Baked goods
Vitamins & OTC products
bottled water & soft drinks
pks of drink mixes - Crystal Light, etc.
shampoo, sun protection products

Make a note of what one of the PPs said:

You can use a mfg coupon for each item in a multi-pack if using a 1/1 coupon.

i.e. 4 pack of Secret Flawless deodorant, you can use (4) $1 off purchase of 1 Secret Flawless coupons. Or you can use (2) $2 off purchase of 2 Secret Flawless coupons.

When you do that you can save ALOT.

Ha! That's what I do! Seriously, it's addicting...I have seen the husband at BJ's with the wife at a supermarket comparing prices via cell phone.

I have two teenagers who love vitamin water. We get a 20 pack for $18.59 (it used to be $15.49 a few months ago). It's usually $1 per on sale in the grocery store. They've had $4 off coupons for it in their coupon books. We love to use BJ's for holiday entertaining...they have some pretty good deals on standing rib roasts and other meats. Bagels are $2.99 per package vs. $3.99 at our grocery store. The cheeses are also less expensive as mentioned above.

You really have to price shop, but our savings have blown away our $45 membership fee.

ME TOO :thumbsup2 Same price here in NJ. And perdue low salt turkey is usually $3.99 pound. The bakery has little "crusty" dinner rolls...about 20 in a pack for $2.99 so we get them and make little sandwiches. Go early. The deli is usually crowded on the weekends. Have fun!
